Which was perfectly understandable when the game was in alpha/beta stages, but now that it's officially released it's more of an issue. A lot of people don't want to have to start over every time there's an update, that gets boring fast.

Imagine having your characters wiped in MMO's or on BF3 every time they patch something.

I totally agree with this. I don't want to paste all my structures into a new world yet again because I want to have jungles, etc. It takes a lot of time to rebuild this way. I wouldn't mind exploring further into my world and suddenly finding jungles, etc.. As for the climate stuff, I think that is just awesome. Snow next to jungle makes total sense :biggrin.gif: Still, some weather patterns have changed the scape of my farms, breaking sugar canes just because the water froze over.

Well, I agree somewhat, except for that fact that we are out of beta now and using a real game. Logically, powering a wooden fence needs some wiring anyway :biggrin.gif: Maybe that's a good idea for 1.2: making iron fences for just this purpose. Just as with iron doors can't be opened without an additional source of power, these fence gates can only be opened using redstone.

I'm not really complaining from the point of view that they seemed to have targeted me, because that would be ridiculous. But what does it mean that minecraft has been officially launched when every patch might introduce stuff that rather breaks that fixes stuff? I even know that breaking isn't the goal of these changes, but these changes are going to affect an increasing amount of players that have used these blocks for a diversity of things. And I personally think that it would be a good idea for those blocks that can be used manually in some changing way ( like fence gates and trapdoors), to let them be combined with redstone so that the original properties remain unaffected.

So, 1.1 introduced new rules for fence gates. I had a great fence gate elevator in my magnificent tower. Within a 8x6 area, two piston/fencegate elevators went up and down next to each other. Sure, you had to get out at certain levels to take the one next to it to progress further (due to the 12 block piston limit), but it worked great. Until 1.1.

I normally like change. But we are out of the beta stage now and whole builds can be effected by a single change in the properties of a single block. Now the elevator somehow gets stuck after one click and it keeps opening and closing the fence gates. The project that I had been working on for a couple of weeks suddenly became obsolete.

The same happened when glowstone suddenly didn't block my redstone circuits anymore, but that was before 1.0, so that was fine, even though I still need to update that.

So, here are some suggestions for the future:

    - Make fence gates not interact with redstone.
    - Make a fence gate that interacts with redstone by having a fencegate combined with a redstone torch on your crafting table.
    - Make a block that acts like a solid block, doesn't interact with redstone and can be used in a chain elevator so that it will work through all versions.

But, in general: when a block does something in one patch after 1.0, don't change the aspects to much to break builds.

I love minecraft, but this sets me back a couple of weeks and I have little time to play between a job, a child and other normal life stuff :biggrin.gif:

Yeah, that would be cool too... But i can't think of any that can benefit my elevator. You will always get pushed of, suffer major head injury or just drop. But even if it would not be implemented for this specific purpose, it would still be a cool idea, I think.

So, I was trying to build an elevator of the fence/conveyor belt kind but I soon realized I was restricted to a 12 block elevator. Now, along the line I could push the blocks aside and go for another 12 blocks, but this would mean that you would either bump your head in places or simply be pushed of. So, my idea is:

Combine either a sticky or normal piston with a repeater and you can set it in 4 different positions: 12, 16 (or 18...), 24 and 32 (30, maybe 36...) blocks to be pushed. This way, you don't loose control in points where you would still want the maximum number of blocks to be pushed to be 12, while at the same time opening up a lot of possibilities for other uses.

Personally, I need 24 blocks to be pushed :biggrin.gif:

    Any comments?
