posted a message on Most boring thing in minecraft to do?
I would have to say, after exploring deep into the winding, many-branched cavern, trying to head back up and getting hopelessly lost. Unless I'm uber-finicky about placing markers (almost never) this happens pretty much any time I enter a large cavern. I've wandered around lost underground for an hour or more, sometimes.

posted a message on When is someone not considered a noob anymore ?
There's a difference between being a noob and being a newbie. A newbie is just someone who is new to the game and still learning, whereas a noob is typically obnoxious and goes around begging/complaining/asking stupid questions. So you don't have to be a noob at all! :P

As for when you stop being new to the game--I've had minecraft since right before the Adventure Update (the one where hunger was first implemented), and I have never killed the Enderdragon. I've built castles and cathedrals, been blown up and burned up, cussed at the game and praised the Diamond gods, but I've never traveled to The End in survival mode in all that time. Why? Because I'm a wuss, that's why. :D But, just because I prefer to play in Peaceful or Creative most of the time doesn't mean I'm a noob; I know how to do just about anything in the game.

posted a message on How do I survive this wierd place?
The fastest way to get food would be to kill a spider or two for string, make a fishing rod and catch fish. MUCH faster than growing wheat (even if you get wheat there's a good chance you'll die before it finishes growing). Fish are pretty easy to catch, and there's a chance you'll catch other useful items too.

posted a message on Custom NPCs
I'm having a wierd problem with dialog, in my world that I'm making an adventure map in my NPCs won't use it (I even tried making a brand new npc from scratch and giving him dialog, same problem). However, in all of my other worlds dialog works perfectly. I really don't want to have to scrap everything I've built in my adventure map due to some wierd glitch with dialog, but I'm not sure how to fix it so my characters can talk again.

posted a message on MC+ Mods - Satchels, Turtles, Quivers, and More!
These mods are excellent, especially the loom and the satchel. Like a cheating cheater-pants, I attempted to put a satchel inside another satchel (infinite russian doll satchels, anyone?), but found that it cannot be done! XD

How does the gift box work? I found it in my creative inventory but the only interaction seems to be "eating" it. Also, is the recipe for the loom specific to those types of wood? I tried to make one with just jungle wood and it didn't work. The turtle is cute, but didn't follow me after I tamed it for some reason (I tried clicking on it in case it was sitting, but still no movement).

For ideas, I would love to see more things like the loom that are decorative as well as functional--how about a "trapped" bookcase similar to the trap ladder (for secret doors)? Any kind of medieval furniture or decorations would be great too, especially if it's geared more towards shops and houses rather than castles.

posted a message on Spider-Proof Walls
    Quote from Hackedshot44

I live on a small island, surrounded by water. Its also kept completely impenetrable by my lava moat, which hold lava 1 deep, looks something like this..

:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: (This is the inside, 2 high, 2nd layer is glass)
    :Lava: :Lava: :Lava: :Lava:
    :Lava: :Lava: :Lava: :Lava:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:

I find that this, coupled with ledges around my boat dock and skyrail, is completely impenetrable. Creeps wont get to me, the lava kills them too fast, and they'd have to jump over a 2 high wall. I've never seen a spider get near the wall before either turning back and jumping into water, or they try to hop over and they burn to death. Pretty good.

That would work as purely a method of defending your buildings, but any drops would be destroyed by the lava. It would be better to use the wall to funnel spiders and other mobs into a position where you can use bow/dispensers or other killing methods that preserve the drops.

    posted a message on [Hints&Tips]Building a City
I find it really funny that I googled "fictional town needs" in order to find information that would be useful to building my minecraft towns…and this thread was on the first page of results. Thank you so much, this is incredibly useful.

As for architectural preferences, I like wood better than stone (except for castles), and I love sandstone ceilings. I have been experimenting with using trapdoors for decoration: as trim on the outside of buildings, windowboxes to contain dirt without taking up too much space, shutters for windows, and to make glowstone lighting more attractive (I made a chinese restaurant with trapdoor-covered glowstone and it looked really cool.) I also really love the new upside-down stairs, which I discovered completely by accident and now go out of my way to find uses for.

I really don't like the random floating blocks either. A whole island is ok, though. Also, those tall, straight up-and-down pillars of stone or dirt that appear occasionally are really ugly and hard to get rid of. And trying to destroy every block of wood in a giant tree so that the leaves will dissappear is annoying, especially in the beginning when you don't even have dirt in great numbers yet.
