Okay,I need a little help with an entrance i'm making.I'm trying to improve the lava wall by making a secret entrance like so:
    [] :Lava: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :Water: []
    :Lava: :Water: []
    :Lava: :Water: []
    :Lava: :Water: []

The idea is that you memorize the hole's location, and then when you run through the water puts you out.A guard would be behind, preferably with a metal door,so that he can monitor anyone who goes in.

However, the water in this setup just made cobblestone,so I modified it by using signs to make an empty space between the lava and the water. However, now it takes to long to get through and I often die JUST before I make it through. So,i'm in a catch-22.Anyone have a way to make this setup work?

Oh, cool idea. But do you take any damage going through? I like the idea a lot, though.
How would the guard see out of the room though? You can't see through lava.

Yes,I take quite a bit of damage; on easy,I always die before I make it all the way through as the lava slows you down.

As for how the guard see's through the lava,he doesn't.My diagram hides the stuff behind; once your in,you would have a metal door in front of you, with a guard operating the only way to open it: a button. If an enemy comes through and breaks the door, the guard could set off a sand/gravel trap to slow down a large force,or attempt to dispatch the enemy.

Not really a trap but a good way to hide your base. Unless someone is searching for lava at the time lol.

[A bunch of lava suspended by signs above a bunch of water]

Most people will be discouraged to drop down. You drop threw the lava taking some damage and the water underneath puts you out.

Nice idea, but how would you get up?I assume you could tunnel through the side, but then what's the point of the entrance?

You would do the same for an exit out of your base. So you'd have two of these traps, one to get inside and one to get out. The exit could even drop right into an ocean, perhaps in an underground cave to hide it even better. Use ladders or stairs if the height differential is a problem.

But I don't wanna just run a ladder to some discreet place in the off-chance no one's there,I need...wait,I got it:
    :chestfront: [] :Water: :Water:
    :cobblestone: :--+: :cobblestone: :Water:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Water:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Water:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Water:
:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Lava: :Lava: :Lava: :cobblestone:
:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :wood: [] :wood: :cobblestone:
:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Water: :Water: :Water: :cobblestone:
:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :wood: [] :wood: :cobblestone:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: [] [] [] :cobblestone:
    :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: [] [] [] :cobblestone:
:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :Water: :Water: :Water: :cobblestone:
:cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:

This is a modified version of the entrance. The wood blocks are ladders;the water at the bottom of the pit is to prevent fall damage. The basic idea is that you climb to right below the lava with a ladder, then you climb straight through into a waterfall you made, like the natural waterfalls often found flowing underground. The chamber in the back contains a chest that has some food to heal any possible damage, while the torch is out of a direct line of sight to further sell the "natural stream".To get out of THAT,just make a hole somewhere a ways down, patch it with smooth stone, and your set.

XD I love reading these posts...very entertaining...

My worst has got to be on an SMP server when I was out on an island mining some trees, only vaguely knowing my way back. So,I get ready to leave as it's already getting dark, when all of a sudden a creeper starts chasing me across the map before it finally blows up leaving me with 2 hearts. So then I just dig a 4-deep 1x1 hole in the ground, jump in,and seal the entrance.I can't see a thing, but I can tell when it's daytime because I hear skeletons and zombies all around me.When it finally goes silent as day breaks,I open my hole, and loe and behold Mr.creeper gives me a warm welcome.I make a quick tower and narrowly escape with my life.I'm completely lost by now,but I don't wanna die because there's no wood near my spawn and I'm carrying like 30 unprocessed pieces. So,I search to no avail, and later get blown up by a creeper hiding behind a cactus. So then I go home, and find that some greifer has poured like 3 buckets of lava INSIDE my house and then TNT'd it,burning all of my chests and stuff and blowing my house to smithereens.Wonderful...

Plus it would mean people who decide to randomly dig could find your base. You could argue they would find it anyways, but you might surround the base in a lava shell like this to prevent that:
:Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
:Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] [] [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] [] [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] [] [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: [] [] [] [] [] :cobblestone: :Lava:
:opblock: :opblock: :opblock: :opblock: :opblock: :opblock: :opblock: :opblock: :opblock:

They would assume they had struck a lava lake and move on.But again, just how would you get up?

May I join?I won't be able to participate all the time because of school, but I really like the concpt of minecraft war and surprisingly there are almost no war servers out there that aren't just loosely organized pvp's.

p.s. If I do get in,i'd like a job as an engineer or spy

I also have an idea for a way to make a mine be safeguarded. This won't work if the person who discovers it is skilled enough to know that the torch doesn't need to be broken to be disarmed, but anyway, here's the circuit (sorry that there aren't any screenshots):
    :tnt: -------------- :--+: (pretend it's a redstone torch)
    | [] [] [] [] |
    :wood:---------------- :--+:

The wood is a pressure plate.Yes,it's a bad diagram, but the idea is pretty much,if it works normally, great;but if someone finds it,and decides to break the bottom torch (the top one would be lower down and harder to see),then the TNT blows up anyway. It would probably be a little obvious, but maybe someone could improve it.

Ok,this topic has me hungry for action.Anyone know a decent war server (not just pvp)?

No but i'm fully in support of one being made. Although the difficulty in having an actual war would be immense. You would have to have separate chats so that you could talk without giving everything away, you'd need a LARGE group of people to play and a server box powerful enough to support that many players, highly dedicated people who are on that server nearly 24/7 and who can call everyone on their "team" when something starts going down. I mean a battle without participants on both sides is essentially nothing more then griefing. "Hey look, a tower. Hrm...nobody's inside...welp guess I'll spend the next hour dismantling it all by myself."

The amount of time un-organized wars would consume of people's lives is astronomical. Now if, instead, you followed a somewhat ordered war server the time wouldn't be as intense but it takes most of the fun out :/. All in all, its easier in theory then in practice but as I said i'm willing to give it a go :smile.gif:

True. The chat could be fixed using a thrid-party program like teamspeak, and you could set a schedule up so that the server is only on from,say,2-4,but yeah, setting the whole thing up would be a pain

Very good guide, fun to read...i'll be hosting a war server any day now :tongue.gif:

1 question though:if i'm a spy, wouldn't the enemy see my nameplate and be able to use "counter espionage"(aka 3 guys in diamond armor with bows) on me?Is there any way to disguise a nameplate?

Nameplates are the bane of my existence. As of now, the only way to hide them is to "sneak" :\

Shame, that means "Black Ops" stealth missions are out of the picture, except maybe in tundra areas. :sad.gif:

Speaking of tundra, you mentioned in the beggining using snow to hide TNT mines, but never said how to do this. So,how do you do it?

Another thing is that there are a bunch of traps and barriers that you mentioned, all of which are AWESOME btw,but what do you do when the enemy breaches the walls? My idea was that you could make the interior kind of like a maze layout that only your teammates could navigate, and they could attempt to split up the enemy inside and pick them off,or maybe lead them into a trap.

Final thing,I like the lava wall, but as it is,an enemy could get through by doing this:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :grass: :grass: :cobblestone: []
    :soil: :soil: :soil: :soil: []
    [] [] [] [] :Notch:
    :soil: :soil: :soil: :soil: :soil:

To avoid would be "sappers" like this, maybe you could do this?(minus the underground tunnel of course :tongue.gif:)
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone: :cobblestone:
    :Lava: :Lava: :Lava: :Lava: :Lava:
    :soil: :soil: :soil: [] :soil:

posted a message on Dealing With Greifers
I need some help, for the past few days i've been on this one server. It seems pretty nice,so i'm staying for awhile, but there's only 1 admin monitoring the whole thing and half the time he's not online. So,I was building my house up for awhile, which I had built with this guy named Grinnz, who was really fun to play with.We had a pretty small house, but it had multiple floors, alot of supplies, and we were happy with it.So,I was online before grinnz was,so I set about trying to improve the house, mainly by trying to build a moat to deal with creepers.Anyway, after awhile,I kept noticing these guys who kept popping online, named Borris33,Crimzing,and Redmoon[buncha random numbers...can't remember what they were].So,I get really bored playing by myself,so I invited them to meet me at the spawn and I would show them around, and then maybe they could show me their place. So,they got there, and I let them in.They seemed nice enough, saying "cool house" and stuff like that, but when I was climbing the ladder to show them the "guard tower" we had made,Borris randomly pulls out an iron sword and kills me.I don't know why,but for some reason I thought it was an accident, and I just said something stupid like "lol, get my stuff".

So,I come back to my house, and I find it with 1 thing covering it-lava.

Everything-the basement, the garden, the mines, and all 6 of our large chests filled with supplies, all gone in 30 seconds of flame and molten rock. And the guys were standing there, off to the side, admiring they're "handiwork".I was pissed.I tried to kill them with bare hands-which you can guess how that went. After awhile they got bored of killing me,and left.

So then,in the same general area,I built a really high house, deleted the tower, and made a waterfall the only way to get up,which I could always plug up.I also made a mine seperate from the house.

I go offline for a half hour for lunch, and find my house to have been TNT'd and that they took everything out of my chest. In the mine, they deleted the torches,so now i've got like 20 creepers down there ready to kill me.There was a sign next to my "No Griefing" sign I had put up that said,"Borris Was Here >:D"

Now i'm on my third house, and i'm scared for it even though it's just a hobbit hole with some supplies.Like I said, the admin is almost never on when these guys or I am on,so I don't know how I can deal with this. Can you guys help me?
