I show it to an extremist religion group where it is quickly rip to shreds, burned and thrown into an acid vat to cover up the knowledge of it existing.

I don't notice any performance change when playing Minecraft with AA and AF. Only difference is I have trouble running different programs at the same time(such as Paint.NET and Firefox loading slower). Mostly I'm thinking of these options ingame for those with the beefier computers who get tired of staring at the staircase effect at every piece of terrain jutting out.

EDIT: I use a GeForce 9400 GT/2 GB RAM/Intel E6550(2.33 GHzx2), nothing really groundbreaking but still am able to do this fine(in before everyone waves around beefy specs).
