A flight to Australia is hugely expensive. Especially if you live near Sweden or the same latitude/distance. I'm sure most people can't afford to take round trip flights from Europe for $1,000 USD just for flight, to Australia.

From Sweden to Australia is 9,000 miles.
From Sweden to Florida it was just half that.

Paying for staff to fly there and book hotels would be a nightmare if you think about it. Then the people who want to go there have to fork up much more money and will want something worthwhile there to do. I just don't think it's very economical and entertaining enough to have it in Australia, sorry to say, but it's an educated opinion.

I think the best option is to have it in the UK or something like that. Considering I live in the United States and the total trip cost is that of a flight to Australia. Yes, that includes room and flight. It also had their own regional convention/event (from what I heard). Which kinda shows they could amass enough fans and people willing to travel there.

posted a message on Minecon: The Aftermath
    Hello eveyone,
I would like to give my two cents on how the convention went and what things should and shouldn't be done next year. I'm sure almost everyone who went would agree with what I'm about to point out. So here you go:
    1. The convention should be kept the same size. I think in general it makes the convention more personal and close to the Mojang team. Seeing them able to stop by each booth and have a small convention is great! Also the fact lines were over crowded and we needed more agents to keep them tamed. Yes, I was an agent at the convention. The issues that come with a larger convention are cost, commercial feelings, and property DOES get stolen. Near the end of the convention people started grabbing things that seemed like they were suppose to go back to the production company.
    2. The panels should open an hour earlier. This year it was 10AM EST, but that was a bit of a wait. It should be up to the panelists when they was their panels open, early or later? It just makes things seem more occupied rather than wait 2-3 hours from wake-up to wait in line, then open.
    3. Allow volunteers to take a microbreak in their shift. Some booths only had one person working and it's difficult to stand for 5-6 hours. At some events it's mandatory people take breaks. That means all competition fields stop, booths shutdown for a short time. It's great on everyone if you ask me. People can go for food/drinks, allowing the snack stands to make some money, and panelists/staff can relax before going on through the day.
    4. Shuttles were great idea! Saved a lot of time and trouble going the the Islands of Adventure! Keep these going perhaps?
    5. The expo hall was awesome! The giant Steve statue and the barnyard. The booths there were fantastic, especially QCraft and ThinkGeek. Lines were wrapped around the area.
Other than that, I think the rest is in generally great shape! I just wanted to point out some good things and some rants. Other than that you may add your quarters to the jar!

I was thinking of making a backpack for Minecon. Just like the one in the animation called "The Catch" by WeedLion. Simple cube like leather backpack.

I would actually disagree on this unfortunately. Even though it is closer to home and has plenty of convention "pride", it would be a logistical nightmare. For staff and attendees.

Parking rises up to 75$ when there's a special event. Sometimes even to $150! Also the hotels there are limited to one end or the other end of the spectrum (Clean and expensive TO dirty and overpriced). The prices there for hotels are overpriced almost all the time.

In my opinion, Minecon should be held McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois for 2014. I heard they have a huge and magnificent center there, modern. Yes, it may be farther away from me and people on the East Coast, but it's less of a logistical nightmare and the city is a regional air travel hub.

I didn't even plan or even know tickets were on sale until 10 minutes before! So I wanted until the first batch was on sale and got my ticket right away. Didn't run into any issues or anything. Clicked, bought, and jumped for joy.

    *raises hand*
Attending alone, but volunteering. I might be wearing a Bureau of Adjustments ID.

One thing I always take into account is, no one knows you there. Therefore be as social or outgoing as you want, and bring something that might interest others. Well good luck!

They place so many advertisments because it pays for the convention.
