I've heard of Minecraft 1.8.x SMP having issues with entities despawning, including armor stands and item frames, although I don't know if this affects singleplayer as well.
While Mojang has added support for name changes, the feature has yet to be implemented into the game. Unfortunately, you're just going to have to wait it out until they release an update with the ability to change your name!
Last time I checked, the speedrun record was somewhere around 40 minutes, so yeah, it's definitely possible. I'm certainly not insane enough to try to do that, though!
I had a dream once where my mother and I were walking down our street for some reason, and there was a giant meteor in the sky heading towards Earth, which for some reason didn't bother either of us. Then, as it got closer, it turned into a UFO and suddenly we both freaked out and started running towards the house. I guess it shot me with a laser beam or something, because everything went black and I could hear my body hit the ground, but I didn't feel anything. Not sure if that was me "dying" or what, but it was certainly an interesting dream!
I've had a few other dreams where I woke up right before I was about to die, but that's the only dream where I actually "died" in the dream.
I'm pretty sure some configs and stuffs for the signs were changed in 1.8, allowing for more text on a sign than in previous versions. My guess is that when you switched back to a different version of Minecraft, these conflicting files caused this glitch. I'd suggest keeping the world in either 1.7.10 or 1.8 and not alternating between the two to keep things like this from happening in the future. Hope that helps!
I'm going to agree with Gumbatron and say that Etho's build is a personal favorite of mine. It's a very simple and effective build, and more importantly, it's resource-friendly, which is extremely important for a survival island series. That's my two cents for ya!

I would say closing the curtains would be a good idea, but judging by the size of the scorpion it probably wouldn't help much. It'd probably just rip the wall off my house if it felt like it!
All of them? Every last one? First off, how is that even possible? Second, if you did manage to make that many admins angry, maybe it's for the best you stick to single player for a while! Learn how to follow basic rules a bit better, then try to find another server.
Just a guess here, but it might be because you have a block directly above the melon growing spaces. Try remove the dirt blocks above the growing spaces for just one level and see if that changes anything. Best of luck to ya!
