So, I read in the main post about whats confirmed for 1.8, and a little bit about Minecraft being winnable made me shudder. Its an open ended game, and while I read that jeb's statement has been misread, I can only wonder if he's also retracting this (Confirmed statement) that minecraft will be a winnable game.

Why don't you just place them level with the rest of the shrooms? Seems as though they would grow better (realistically, in mincraft logic however...)
For some reason, they like to pop out if three are in a row. It also makes it easier to not break your "seed" shrooms. Someone suggested placing the a block above though; this is useful if you wana use water to break them!

well, I've always collected shrooms, I had about 50+ total laying around my "Trophy" room for them. Everyone on my server knows me for my mushroom fanaticism. This just allows me to get moar shrooms, and yes, you can farm them now!
I found the best way to farm shrooms is to make a hole every one space apart. So that each hole has a block near it on all 6 directions. Then, place a shroom into these holes, and only harvest the ones that grow, aka, not the ones in hole.

Also, shroom discussion in general. what have you learned about its growth patterns and such?
Edit: The reason for them being placed a level below is because for some reason, if they're on the same level and 3 are touching in a line, they'll pop out, sometimes. This prevents this, and mushrooms can spread upwards, sort of. I just find this the most efficent way; they still take a long time to grow, however!

/v/ has constant minecraft discussions, its very popular there. One of the splashes gives a shout out to /v/. Wether you like it or not, a chunk of the minecraft fanbase comes from that place of evil.

They're shrubs, they are basically tall grass that wanted to be different.

They do grow on alot of surfaces; I can confirm cobble, stone, and dirt. they aren't very picky plants. Er, fungi.
they'll grow, it just takes some time. Shroom farming takes patience!
