posted a message on Launcher Texture pack
    Quote from Tacchinorobot»

Is there a texture pack that it's similar to the launcher image? I really like the material design it got and I was wondering if there's a similar resource pack.

There are hundreds of similar packs, but none of them exactly like the launcher art. More importantly, the "look" of that art would only be accomplished with shaders and no such shader pack exists to my knowledge. Feel free to search for "simple pack" or "flat pack" but don't be surprised if you can't find anything that has that same feeling. It's not really easy to replicate in-game.

posted a message on Why do my leaves not render properly?

My resource pack I created does not have the leave textures or .json files, yet the leaves still render with the spots which are supposed to be transparent black instead. Any ideas why this happens and how to fix it?

(P.S. I may be able too give access to the pack if needed)

Off the top of my head, it looks like you have fast graphics turned on. Or at least fast leaves if you have Optifine installed. I don't think it has anything to do with your pack.

    Hello,

Is it possible to rotate an element on more than one axis?

For example I would like to have an element rotated by 45* on X axis and 45* on Y axis.

Sadly, no. This is a restriction that Mojang deliberately added to models.

Error: n: Non [a-z0-9/._-] character in path of location: minecraft:block/BeaconGlass

is there a way to bypass this without installing optifine?

Yes. Just don't use illegal characters in your file name. As the error you posted suggests, that means don't use capital letters. Minecraft is allergic to them, you see. ;)

    I hope that helps you.

posted a message on Optimizing 3D Models
    Quote from Aberforth10»

    Hello.

Is there a way to optimize 3D models? Models that consist of large amounts of elements really decrease FPS.

I noticed that when I upload an .obj model to Cubik Studio, it loads up as a mesh, then I convert it to voxels and then to elements, but all the elements are really small cubes. If I could merge these elements there would be way fewer of them.

Do you mean "Is there a way to do this automatically?" Because if so... probably not. The .obj format and the very restrictive element-based format that Minecraft uses are almost totally incompatible. If Cubik's converter isn't elegant enough to optimize the resulting model then it's unlikely to have a button to do it afterwards.

But of course, I have no idea if it does or not. That's something that you should ask on their help forum/channel/whatever since it's paid software. Get your money's worth on customer service, ya know? :P

Otherwise, you'll either need to start constructing your models from scratch or else do a LOT of cleanup work by hand. Best wishes either way.

    Quote from GustaffMkII»

I'm trying to make this work for 1.14.x, particularly 1.14.4. I've been referencing the blockstates files directly from the jar, and I had no knowledge of formats or changes being made between 1.13 and 1.14.

The filename paths are the standard as they should be: [root]/assets/minecraft/blockstates/block and [root]/assets/minecraft/models/block for the blockstates and model JSON, and the textures path is [root]/assets/minecraft/textures/block.

    OK, two problems then.

First, the /blockstates/ folder can't have a sub-folder. So just put your file in /blockstates/ rather than in /blockstates/block/ which is just redundant. :P

The second is the sand.json blockstate file. It looks like you were referencing the file from 1.13 since it starts out wrong. Instead of:

    "variants": {
     "normal": [

    it should begin with:

    "variants": {
     "": [

since 1.14 does away with the "normal" state in favor of just an empty/blank state as its default.

    I hope that helps you.

posted a message on Requiring assistance with variable textures for my resource pack

Which version are you making this for? Your blockstate suggests 1.13.x, but your model files suggest 1.14.x so either way you have a mistake. Knowing which version you're making this for will help us to determine which one is the mistake.

I also ask that you post the complete paths, relative to /assets/ to all of these files. Just knowing they're in a folder somewhere isn't useful if we don't know how the folders are named.

posted a message on Need help making block texture variants.
    Quote from auroraatiny»

I've been trying to follow this: Tutorial by Alan Becker. It was made a little bit ago so I'm unsure if the information is still valid. I did look through the comments and noticed that one thing said in the video needed to be changed and did so but followed the tutorial for the rest of the process. every time I try to load the texture pack into the game with the changes I just see the purple checkered pattern. as I mentioned I'm not sure what is wrong and I feel like I lack the knowledge to truly explain what is going wrong or what I am doing wrong as I just started trying to make this. I hope this might help to explain the issue I am having though.

The first go-to is to run your files through www.jsonlint.com to see if they're valid. That checker will at least clue you in on if you've made any technical mistakes in the formatting and point out about where they are. A valid file won't necessarily work as there might be an issue outside of the file, but it's the first thing you should check.

Otherwise, please post your model and blockstate files please. It's much easier to SEE what you've done. Make sure to use Code tags to make the formatting easy to read, and preferably hide the file is Spoiler tags just to keep the post well organized and the thread tidier. Alternately, you can put them up on Pastebin and provide links here.

A session log (.minecraft/logs/latest.log) would also help since minecraft will tell you what it thinks went wrong... or at least try to.

Finally, please let us know what version of Minecraft you're making this for. That's important. ;)

I hope that helps you to help us give you the help you desire. :D

posted a message on Is there any way to add additional paintings without mods?
    Quote from XenonZed»

I was thinking this might be possible to do by editing blockstates, similar to texture variants, but there are no files for any paintings in the game's blockstates folder. Are the available paintings and which texture files they use simply hard-coded?

Yup. Paintings are actually entities, not blocks. So everything about them is hard-coded into the game's files. As such it sadly isn't possible to add new paintings without modding. :(

posted a message on Dark oak Biome dark no matter what
    Quote from dapperw»

So i was trying to remove color mapping with grass entirely so i just made the grass and foliage.pngs white but for SOME reason the dark oak biome STILL has a significantly darker shade of color ma[[ing despite the whole file having the same shade of white. Got any tips to stop this?

    -Thank

A few biomes like dark forests and swamp have a second, hard-coded biome color to them. Just making your biome map white won't fix this.

To solve the problem, you'll instead need to track down the model for the block you're trying to change, and alter it to remove the 'tintindex' property in all of the elements that you don't want tinted.

    I hope that helps you.

I have two textures in assets/minecraft/textures/block

Oh? Then you might want to check the one that doesn't work again. You specified the location as "/assets/minecraft/textures/blocks/" as a plural case instead of the proper singular case that you actually have the textures in. It's an easy mistake to make. ;)

    I hope that helps you.

Edit: I totally missed the forest for the trees on this one. See KittenKatja's post below which gets it right. I feel so dumb now that it's been pointed out. :(

posted a message on Making Lightmaps - An MCPatcher Tutorial
    Quote from Videogamer555»

Why do I need MC Patcher for this? This tutorial is in the "resrouce packs" subforum, which means that light maps are stored in a normal resource pack, and those can be made manually. There's an actual official way to create resource packs using a specific folder structure. No jar-file modding is needed, so no special tools should be needed.

Old thread is old. I could rename this "An Optifine Tutorial" to be more up to date. Or for that matter, I could just outright update it since much of this isn't exactly accurate anymore. :P

You need Optifine (or MCPatcher for old versions) because vanilla Minecraft doesn't have this functionality. It specifically works with the mod to produce the effect. Yes, it's added as part of a regular resource pack but it won't show up without the proper mod installed. It's the same as having a resource pack with textures for a mod won't cause the mod's features to magically appear in the game. If it isn't in vanilla MC, having something that works with it won't have any effect unless the corresponding mod is installed.

And if you don't believe me... well... go ahead and try it for yourself! You'll quickly see that you can't get it to work in un-modded Minecraft.

    I hope that clarifies matters.

I'm confident there's nothing wrong with the json files

See, you say that but Minecraft clearly begs to differ. And since they're not all checkerboards it's very likely that it is, in fact, a problem with your model files. If it were the blockstate, Minecraft would just paint error textures on everything.

Well, unless you just misspelled the file names, but that doesn't appear to be the case. At least not from this side. I suppose the names of the actual model or texture files could be misspelled. That'd definitely cause this particular symptom.

I suggest checking your session log (.minecraft/logs/latest.log) to see what Minecraft is telling you. You can also try running the model files that aren't appearing through www.jsonlint.com to see if it can point out any errors in them. Otherwise, post the variants that aren't working here. Both models and textures please. With their file names, just to be sure. More information is required to solve this issue.

    I hope that helps you.
