posted a message on What are you listening to right about now?
I'm listening to an odd assortment of songs, atm. Just some of the titles:
    The Final Countdown
    Viva La Vida
    Hot Air Balloon
Dance Forever (no, I don't care that it was written by a boy band that was signed by Disney... I still like it because of its tune and energy.)
    How To Save A Life
Up (by Shania Twain; it's the only country song on my list for a reason: it's not "I'm bitter aaaaand depressed beeeecause maaah signif'cant other leffft meeee....", or "I want youuuu, but I can't have yoooouuuuuu"; it's a happy song with an upbeat tune :biggrin.gif:)
    Every Little Tear
    Eye Of The Tiger

I don't get how people can listen to stuff by artist. Well,... okay, if it's a Queen song or a Bon Jovi song, I'd probably listen to it, but I prefer to just go by the song itself and sort of "disconnect" it from the author, per se. The exception to this rule is Justin Bieber. I would NEVER listen to ANYTHING written by her, as she titled one of her pathetic pop songs with the same title as an epic Queen song that a whole generation will now go without.

Aww, what a nice song! :3

I do have a personal favourite love song, though, so I may as well put it up here.
It may end up being easier to sing:

    Good luck! :biggrin.gif:

-snip- Gold (Ag) is pure, so no oxidation is needed. -snip-

    Gold is Au, not Ag.
Au represents its Latin name, aurum, meaning "shining dawn", for obvious reasons.
Ag is silver. Ag comes from silver's Latin name, argentum, derived from the prefix arg- meaning "grey" or "shining".
    </cheminazi comment>

As to my comment for the debate, I would guess that the reason we smelt gold would be to remove its impurities. Finding pure gold is practically impossible. Gold is usually found with 5%-10% silver content, as well as many other impurities. I don't feel like writing down the whole process of refining gold here, but if you are truly interested how this works IRL, just go to HowStuffWorks and search for "how gold works".

posted a message on My First Mega Project (Deathstar and fleet)
I hope you realize that it will be impossible to build a Death Star to scale with any sort of imperial vehicle:

    - The first Death Star (the smaller one) had a diameter of 160 km. I am assuming in these calculations that you will use a block height of 124 (max is 128, but there are the 4 layers of adminium that you can't use).
    - One quick division later, it turns out that you will roughly need a scale that comes out to 1 block = 1.25 kilometers
    - Imperial Star Destroyers were always built to be a mile long (1.6 kilometers), so, it turns out that 1.25 blocks will equal the length of this mighty tank of a vehicle... O.O

The entire place seems to have been ransacked. Could it have been E.V.I.L, looking for that Gem? You look around, but don't see any signs of life.

"There's no one here." You hear the Guard say from another room.

    A)Look Around
    B)Head to the Guard
    C)Enter your Room
    D)Go into the Basement
    E)Leave the House

:cool.gif: I head over to the guard and...
    D) we both enter the basement. As I am getting rather nervous, I draw my sword for the first time today. I still carry the lantern.

    B)Don't Enter Yet

    A) I enter my house with the guard by my side. I try to light it up with my prototype lighting system, but it doesn't work (as usual). Instead, I light a lantern and the guard and I examine my entire house for things that are out of place, missing or broken.

    posted a message on Curse
Okay, so, let's see if I got this right:

    Pro-Curse:
    - Curse will allow the three forum/wiki admins to stop having to pay $2300 a month for servers that get asploded by Creepers whenever traffic gets high
    - Curse will bring more traffic to these forums from external sources, potentially bringing in more Minecrafters/-ians to the mix and get Notch some more sales
    - Curse will also provide better servers for the forums and the wiki that can actually handle all the traffic

    Anti-Curse:
    - Curse is seen by some as an evil conglomerate corporation that swallows up the work of others and lets viruses get through to the end user (I think... I'm not entirely sure if I understand everything that has been posted previously on this thread, as I have never had dealings with either Curse or any stuff of this sort).
    - In order for the admins to not have to pay out of their own pocket, we have to have 2 adverts on the forums, as well as the Curse logo.
    - Potentially, the Curse client may need to be used to download mods; some have voiced the potential insecurity of this tool to be their main gripe (again, if I understood correctly).

    My take:
    - I've never even heard of Curse before this thread and my first reaction to seeing the Curse flame built in Minecraft was "Lolwut? Cool flame bro, but what does that have to do with Minecraft?"
    - I have not actually had any of my posts eaten, so I can't say I had gripes with how the system was (well, except for the occasional Creeper... but before I post, I always copy my entire post and keep it in my clipboard just in case something does go wrong).
    - When it comes to letting the WoW user influx onto the forums, I don't at all doubt that we will receive trolls, flamers and haters. I also don't doubt that we will get our share of intelligent, well-spoken users that can handle a sensible conversation. Hopefully, the ratio of trolls to seemingly intelligent people will stay the same as it is now, because it seems fine to me.
    - Getting stuff for free is always great. Power to the admins for not having to pay for the forum and wiki servers! :biggrin.gif:
    - Sure, adverts are annoying. I actually did not notice when they got implemented, though. What pains me is that I *do* have to pay for bandwidth over a certain limit set by my ISP, so I guess I'll just have to use less Internet (I prefer Google Chrome to Firefox... FF just seems to run slower on my computer, even though I don't have any toolbars or stuff like that installed). Oh, and I only found out about that Curse logo being in the bottom corner from the first post in this thread that mentioned it, which tells me that it's not going to be much of a pain to not look at (aside: double negative ftl, but I can't really put it another way... XP).
    - The closest things that I use as mods are INVedit, Cartograph and putting in my own skins and texture packs. If it comes down to me having to get the Curse client, I'll say right now that I won't because I don't particularly care about mods or other people's textures.

In short, it would have been nice if the admins told us, "Hey, we're thinking about joining up with Curse to improve our servers and decrease our personal costs! What do you guys think?" But they didn't, so we're just going to have to get over it and go on with our lives. They're the people that are truly in charge of these sites. They listen to us, but in the end they make the decisions that affect their pages.

Also, on an entirely unrelated note, I just realized that there are TWO Minecraft wikis and BOTH are called Minepedia. One is run by the forum admins (the Curse logo is at the bottom left side of the wiki) and the other is run by some other guy that apparently got trolled a lot, as recorded by the Minecraft article on Encyclopedia Dramatica (NSFW; this is not intended to be an advertisement).

    Then, I...
    C) ...head to my house and examine the lock to the front door and my windows.

:cool.gif: I glance at other houses as I walk by, to see if they had been broken into. I realize that I should have not only put a complex lock on all my doors, but also on all my windows. I decide that tonight may just end up being a long, sleepless, paranoia-filled night.

    C) I also ask a guard as to whether or not they found the Robed Man, or at least as to where they had tracked him.

    A) Seeing that the Innkeeper either does not want to share something or has more important things to do than talk to me, I leave the inn and go back home, not wanting to start a confrontation, this time with a friend. Remembering that the Robed Man went in the direction of the Housing District, I keep a sharp lookout and have my hand near my shortsword just in case.

Ehh, I'll start on it tomorrow, probably with a visit to Most Things Alchemy. It's late tonight anyway, and I've had enough action. Oh, did those travelers rent out a room here? It might be a good idea if I search it."

[I was hoping that there would be a mini-guild in Newbington, like there are guilds in every major town in TES IV, but no matter.]

    A) Being glad that my cutesy-rambling-distraction strategy worked, I head back inside the inn to ask the Innkeeper what all this is about and to see whether or not he actually DID know something about whatever gem the Robed Man was talking about, or hoping to at least get a story/legend or two out of him about the gem.

    A) Encouraged by the fact that I have surprised the robed visitor, I start a quick, nervous ramble:
"Hi, sir. I'm sorry to have startled you, but could you please let my friend go? I'm sure you'll get much better information from the Mages' Guild than from my friend the Innkeeper here about gems."

I start gently leading him towards the door of the inn to get him out of here in a non-violent manner.

"I mean, sure, he deals in town gossip and stuff and about out-of-town things, but he doesn't know about secret magical gems and stuff. Am I right to assume that you are talking about a magic gem? I think I am, because you seem like a magicky-guy. Nice robe, by the way! I get my clothes made by the tailor that's in town, because I haven't learned how to make my own yet. Do you make your own, or do you buy them?"

I manage to get him to the door.

"Well, anyway, nice to have met you, but I really don't want to keep you from your 'Quest to Find Out About a Gem Hidden in Newbington', so just go to the Mages' Guild, 'kay?"

I get him outside the inn.

"See that sign there, down the street? That's the Guild. I'm sure that they will be of much more help than a simple innkeeper. Bye! Sorry if I seemed rambley and A.D.D.-ish to you! My name is Acelynn, by the way." *smiles sweetly*

I leave him on the porch with me standing in the doorway and wait for a response. I know that, if this guy's intentions are evil, the Mages' Guild will be able to deal with him much better that the Innkeeper and I could, but if he truly wishes to just find something (innocent) out, the Mages' Guild will have the answers.

[That's exactly the reference I was aiming for. :biggrin.gif:]

    A) I open the door, gather my wits, and say, "Hi, Innkeeper! Hello, stranger! Please leave my friend alone; we don't have any gems here in Newbington, other than the ones that travelling merchants sell once in a while. You could ask the Mages' Guild, though; they know about stuff like this. Umm... don't hurt my friend, 'kay?"
I try to hide my fear through a happy-sounding response, but my knees still shake under me.
