posted a message on Mysterious Structure Discovered Video
    Quote from A_Gray_Phantom

I'm looking for a specific youtube video. In it, the player had stepped out of a slip from the Nether into a new location. He witnessed some strange geography (sheer rock faces) and thought for a moment that he may have reached the far lands. Upon closer inspection he discovered torches and other signs of habitation. He soon started recording.

He started to explore the location and found torches, ladders, stairs, and signs of mining. Mind you he claims to have never been in this location, and hadn't placed anything there before. He finds a building with chests inside, and inside the chests are various items. Some of the strangest things he finds are partially used tools. Other sights he finds are mine shafts, a couple of waterfalls, and a partially built sky bridge.

The person playing sounds rather freaked out by the end of the video, and asks the viewer for help trying to solve the mystery.

I've recently encountered some strange experiences exploring the Nether, as well as a couple of other people I've known. I wanted to reference the video, but never favored it as I should have. I need help finding it again. I don't remember the title, nor the poster's account name.

If you are familiar with the video I'm referring to, please post a link to it below. It'll really help out a lot.

I believe its called "Found a house in the nether on MP"

But lets not discuss any further, we dont want to hijack this because that mean guy didnt get a joke.

OP, are you doing this on a server or on singleplayer? Are you going to build multiple houses in there, or a castle?
Because that shape of the walls is amazing.

I'm doing this on singleplayer, sadly. I'm gonna build a castle and if I have room some houses. I'm taking the pictures now, just give me a moment to take/upload them.

If you were assuming that this was meant to be realistic or meant to hold up in SMP, you're sadly mistaken.

Please tell me how to ham up a joke enough that it doesn't sail right over people's heads on the internet

you see it as a joke, i see it as a boring attempt at being funny, he sees it as a serious comment.
a solution would be, stop trying to be funny with every single sentence you write. its why many people hate stand-up comedians.

Trolls will be trolls. Updated picture coming shortly, I've finished the tower and the lip. The keep comes next, I've decided, and then I'll double-layer the walls if I feel like it, lol.

If you're doing it as a building experiment, I agree with jeffrey in the idea that you should make the battlements protrude out a little from the walls. Blocks spiders, looks awesome, and isn't terribly hard to make. Not to mention that it also lends itself to architecture like corbels (the angled stone support things) and machicolations, which is a fancy word for holes through which to shoot people down below.

    An example of both:

Thanks for the idea, my next to-do is add that protrusion, for lack of a better word.

    How original

It wasn't meant to be original, as afore stated, this is just me testing myself to see if I have the patience for major projects.

posted a message on Updates are Dissapoint
    Quote from bgraybr »
I played Minecraft for the first time some months ago, and it was surprisingly fun! Using my powers of reason, I came to the conclusion that since the game is fun now (while its still in Beta), it will be exactly how I want it to be when completed! So, I became active in the Minecraft community, and began posting tons of useful ideas for Notch to read.
As time went on, the game became boring for some reason. Maybe it was because I played the game for eight hours a day, every day, for five months in a row. No... Minecraft is still in development, it's never supposed to get boring. Each update is supposed to completely change the game and add a new level of interest and excitement. However, this is not the case. Every day, I stare out into an enormous sandbox of infinite possibilities and it only bores me; there simply aren't enough random distractions in the sandbox to satisfy my curiosity.

To alleviate this, I began posting feature suggestions left and right, from log strips for log cabins (because the log block isn't good enough!) to chocolate rivers (because we already have chocolate in the game! why not natural chocolate rivers?). Sadly, it appears that Notch has not taken my suggestions into consideration, and lately, as the game draws nearer to completion, the updates are lacking. They tend to focus only on adding more features and things to do. This doesn't help because the entire game needs to be redesigned to cater to my specific needs. I've diligently complained about every recent update, but I doubt that Notch even reads my posts!

Fixing this problem is simple. As of now, Minecraft is a "sandbox" game, which requires you to entertain yourself a little and assumes that you have some level of creativity and an IQ level higher than that of the cow mob. I think it would be more acceptable to a larger number of people if everything about it was changed to focus more on combat and adventure, or at least made more of a survival sim. I propose two new features to add to these elements:

    1. Realism. In Minecraft, you should not only have the option to starve to death, but to catch diseases, break limbs, et cetera. Also, when a world is first generated, your character should have a small chance of having down syndrome or some sort of mental condition and/or be a cripple. Even better, you should start the game as a baby and have to rely on your parents to take care of you for the first hours of your life.
    2. New mobs. For example, the flying light spider. It flies around at all light levels and instantly kills you with a rail gun-like beam of light on sight. This will make the game more difficult and add to the adventure element by making it never safe to be anywhere in the open. More variety like hostile tube pigs, raptor chickens, and a new Jurassic Park biome would also be nice.

As you can see, I ask very little. I'm sure that if Notch put a little thought into Minecraft development instead of being a lazy sellout, then he could have already thought of and implemented these ideas on his own in a DAY. You're welcome, Notch.

Oh you poor lamb you CLEARLY know nothing about siege warfare...I suppose you'll realize that soon when the next wave of moors storm your keep.

Vauban, my dear lad, read up on Vauban.

If you were assuming that this was meant to be realistic or meant to hold up in SMP, you're sadly mistaken. This is just a small project to see if I can stand the boredom of making a neat structure. If I was serious about defending or adding realism, I wouldn't have made it in the middle of a bowl-landscape.

My current project is a small castle, my first one, and it doesn't have a name yet. I need suggestions, both for the name and what to put in it. I'll try my best to make additions and updates on a daily basis. Note: I'm keeping all the pictures on here to document my progress.

The castle in its basic form, still making the walls and the tower, at night.

One at day, also still with only 4-block-high-walls and a tower.

Mined for about fiften minutes, and kept building. I finished the first of the two wall layers, and got the tower to a suitable height. To do: double layer the walls, finish the tower. The main keep comes last.

The exterior is nearly finished, I've decided to work on the keep and possibly double-layer the walls later.
