Actually they are un-able to sue or file a lawsuit. they have Putt-Putt trademark... Not Putt Putt. Therefor they are unable to sue or file a lawsuit for a phrase that they do not own. They may own "Putt-Putt" , But they do not own "Putt Putt".
Actually that doesn't matter. You can't have anything too similar either. Just ask the guy selling "Eat More Kale" T-Shirts.

Sorry, it's wrong. Minecraft.jar doesn't know about the launcher. The versions are stored in seperate folders that run independantly of the launcher. They can add any version they want to the new launcher, they just haven't. But it's still in testing, they might backtrack and add them later.
When the launcher first came out 1.5 wasn't on it. Some in the community figured out how to add it, but then Mojang did it for them. If the community can add 1.5 relatively easily, then you can really add any version.

I still say villages. Trading is pointless and unusefull, and the houses spawn half built in the middle of hills. They are pretty much useless.

I feel as though this comes from the early days when you needed a huge staff of mods and admins to run a server. I run GriefPrevention, the server practically moderates itself. I just need a small handfull of people close to me.

That estimate is a bit high.
Officially 1 block in minecraft = 1 cubic meter.
The United States = ~3,000 miles wide or ~4,828,032 meters/blocks coast to coast but that's just the surface land.
OP: I wish you luck, but I don't wish to pound my head against that wall.

Yep, same with cats and creepers. The mob will only run if it doesn't have aggro on something.
