    Pending,

Hello, Allot. Thank you for your application and your interest in the server. It's nice to hear from a fellow Aeonian.

Unfortunately, there are a few issues that need to be addressed with your application before it can be accepted. As these are relatively small changes and the basic idea for Artemis can remain intact, you're not outright denied. Let's go over some of the problems:

Your definition of powergaming is incomplete. While this is certainly one aspect of powergaming, we're looking specifically for how powergaming tends to manifest in a multiplayer setting and when interacting with other characters. If you're stumped, I recommend taking a look at some of the applications we've accepted.

Also, the only institution that would pass for any kind of 'university' within Artemis' lifespan would actually be the mages guild. Allow me to elaborate some on how they operate: Presently, the modus operandi of the current archmage Syralei Arrynlocke is the dissemination and instruction of all kinds of knowledge, especially magic. They actually regularly rub elbows with known dark mages, so long as those mages use their power responsibly, and even when they don't the guild is sorely lacking for any kind of elite task force that specializes in breaking down doors for a search and seizure. They are an open and accepting force for knowledge. If you're dead set on him being hunted for his practices, I recommend using the law as your antagonist.

Your entire magic application is a bit lacking, especially the section on the description of how the magic system works. I recommend considering and mentioning as many things as possible: What happens when you try to use a spell too powerful for a weak trinket? What can go wrong if a mage tries to use more than one trinket at once or generally pushes themselves too hard? While the idea of separating magic and artifacts is an intriguing one, I ask that you bear in mind that the art of intrinsic magic has been lost for over 25,000 years. If this is his goal, Artemis would not be the first or greatest to make a try at it. While we encourage creative thinking in the use of magic, there are limits. For example, energy and matter are very different things. You would simply not be able to accomplish what you described with a lightning trinket. There are aspects of magic that would allow this, but none of them elemental.

Lastly, as a footnote, I would ask that when you go over your application and work on these changes you re-read and edit your work with small revisions to improve the grammar, format, and sentence structure of it. This isn't as important as having an understanding of your character and how he fits into the world, and we understand that you're probably very excited to get on as quickly as possible, but doing nothing halfway will take you far here. You may also find yourself referring back to your application in the future to remind yourself of your vision for Artemis, and that could certainly help with ease of reading!

Overall, it's a good attempt but it needs some work. I like Artemis, and I think you've captured the snooty scholar very well in him. I particularly enjoyed your example with the street urchin, and once the necessary changes are made I look forward to seeing how he will go about putting the common rabble of Saphriel in their place.

I have changed my app quite a while ago. But I used reply instead of quote. Maybe therefore my changes have been skipped?

Looking at it now I notice that I get a little too carried away creating a story for my character and should have proofread better.

I have now made some adjustments.

Also I know that it is pretty much impossible to reach that goal but that doesn't mean my character doesn't want to try to. Can be an interesting motivation.

    -Minecraft IGN: allot

-Skype name (Optional, for server OOC chat): --

-Do you have any prior roleplay-related experience, if so could you give an example?

Several. Battlestations board roleplaying game. Previous minecraft RP servers(Aeonis). Example:Lady blackbird RP. I have both played as GM and as a player.

Been part of a roleplaying club where I helped organize events.

-Define Power-gaming in your own words:
Playing not the way the game was meant instead trying too hard to win. Focusing on winning instead of the experience of the game. Trying to exploit holes in the rules and etc for personal gain. Examples in a multiplayer experience would be things like min/maxing, exploiting bugs, meta-gaming and also making choices that doesn't fit your character but doing it anyway because that choice is most advantageous for your character. Or trying to make one's character overpowered in a way that brings nothing to the game.
I don't want an immortal vampire that is immune to sun, can time-travel and has a 1000IQ. Powergaming often limits other players of options. Instead of having an rp experience where both can live out the character one player goes like. NO its over this happens i win.

AKA: You should not be playing roleplaying games.
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words:

In relation to RPing Metagaming means to use OOC information IC. Common to use as a powergaming tool.

    Scholar
    -Character description

A tall, slim built blond character often with a smirk on his face. A smooth face and dim green eyes.

These traits along with his medium long hair make him look quite elvish for a human.

    -Character personality and traits

He seems like a charming fellow with great interest in obtaining new knowledge. He seems like the typical well mannered upper-class citizen although even a bit more arrogant and self absorbed. People often get a unsettling feeling close to him.

Eager to learn but not as eager to share his own knowledge.

He is always looking for something new interesting thing to learn about.

( More personal info will reveal itself in the bio)
    -Character biography

Artemis was born in a wealthy merchant family that owned a large bookstore. He was quite the spoiled kid and he read a lot of books. And not the kind of books that children his age read. He often managed to get his hands on the books that weren't really meant for him. He always looked down upon less educated individuals. He learned to use some basic magic at quite a young age. Nothing special but enough to be one of the "big players" in his town district as a kid. He greatly enjoyed his position as he ran his little kid mafia in his district.

When time came he started studying at the Mage's guild and it only increased his thirst for knowledge. He managed to get his degree even though he was reprimanded several times for reading things he was not allowed to or performing some odd experiment. Back home he now helps with the bookstore and also works as a scholar. But he mostly uses his place at the bookstore to get a hold of rare type of books.

The local law enforcement have knocked on his door several times due to complaints of something "shady" going on at Artemis place. They have yet to find anything incriminating.

-Please give us a short RP response to these two scenarios. (At least one paragraph for each):

You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed.

Artemis quickly grabs the hand of the pickpocket before he makes it very far. "Oh you little plebian. You thought you could do that to ME?" he shouted loudly catching the attention of people around him. He grabbed his coin and then pushed the pickpocket so he fell down to the muddy ground. "If you dare touch me again you will regret it. And make sure your dirty little friends knows that as well." he snared while wiping his hand on his coat. Artemis turned around with his head held high and continued his day, with a little more contempt about street children than before.

You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. Upon further investigation you come across a grey-colored wolf that appears to have its leg caught in a bear trap. Around it is three smaller lumps of fur, obviously puppies belonging to the trapped mother. Without help, they’ll all die, but wolf skins are quite valuable too, not to mention that the nearby farms suffer quite a bit from the wolf population.

A smirk breaks out on Artemis face. "Oh the gods smile upon me today as always." he tells himself. He takes a pair of sacks and a hunting knife out of his backpack. He puts his boot down upon the head of the wolf and quickly ends its life by stabbing it in the side of its head. The wolf cubs start panicking but it doesn't affect Artemis as he quickly scoops up them and puts them in one of the sacks. The last cub bites Artemis hand as he picks it up.

Cursing Artemis drops the cub and it quickly sprints of into the woods. Artemis curses again in fury after the cub as it runs away. He quickly regains his composure and marches back to his backpack he dropped and picks up a bandage. He quickly treats the wound in his hand and after that he also bandages the wolf corpse stopping the bleeding in both the head and the leg-wound. He puts the corpse in another sack and continues his journey

    back home.

Entering town Artemis have several people suspiciously ogle him as he passes by with two sacks over his shoulder. One of them showing hints of movement. He entered his home and neither the wolf nor the cubs were ever seen again by the townspeople. Further enforcing the odd feeling about the man named Artemis.

    _______________________________________________________________________

    -Magic Biography;

Artemis doesn't exactly remember when he started dabbling with magic. The books he wasn't supposed to read was often about magic, the history of the world and occult subjects. He gradually learned some basics of magic this way. He was always chasing new knowledge. Especially the knowledge he was not supposed to know. Artemis lives by the saying "Knowledge is power". But the stupid people have their uses. There is a lot that Artemis needs done but he doesn't have time or will to do by himself. This showed already at a young age as he formed his little gang of kids. All he needed to do was show the little control he had of magic and they would gladly do what he told them. Something simple as creating a small puff of smoke with the flick of his fingers had the other kids drop their jaws in awe. And Artemis bathed in the admiration and people seeing him as smart and greater than themselves. Artemis loved the feeling. Artemis has now grown and he just keeps digging into forbidden, lost or odd lore. He doesn't show of as much anymore though. Because he regards his secrets very high and he has noted that he doesn't always have to show people of what he can do. All that is needed is that they believe he can do it.

-Please give an example in your own words describing the limitations placed upon those who use magic

Magic requires 3 things to work. Aptitude, knowledge and the possession of a magical artifact. And the type of magical artifact is the main component determining the effect, potency and much else of the spell.

Using magic drains the user of energy and if something goes wrong both the artifact and the user is at risk. Artifacts vary in strength and if more energy is channeled than the artifact can handle bad things will happen like the artifact breaking.
Artifacts are rare and the knowledge is hard to master but Artemis is doing his best to acquire more magic and tries to collect artifacts of both magical and non-magical types.

He is frantically working in his quest to separate magic from the artifact but he has yet to make any significant progress.

-Please give a description of the magic system in your own words:

Magic is channeled through a magical artifact and drains power from the wielder. It is encouraged to create creative ways of using it. But mastering it is hard and there lies penalties and magic is fickle and you don't always get the same results. By combining the artifact, knowledge and energy you can cast a spell. But it isn't for free and the spell can only be as strong as the weakest of the three. Trying to do something beyond the limit will have dire consequences.

There are several schools of magic specializing in different areas. Also the artifact shows the power it contains.

-You are given a weak trinket of Ice, you haven't had much practice with magic yet, but you will try your best. Describe some things you could/would do with this trinket:

Artemis doesn't only work with magic he also works with science and the fuse of them both together. But as the two things are so different is a very tedious and hard process. Elemental magic may be the type Artemis is least interested in but at the moment a weak Ice artifact is all he has been able to lay his hands on. The artifact he used during his childhood has been destroyed as Artemis got a little too carried away with an experiment. Artemis spends most of his magical research on Dark, Illusion and telekinetic magic. And he is trying his best to acquire an artifact of that type. He currently uses his trinket to aid his research by cooling certain ingredients. But as Artemis sometimes finds himself in sticky situation he has found another creative way of using the artifact. By creating a thin layer of ice upon the ground between him and whoever might wish Artemis harm. After doing so Artemis tend to run away while pursuit will be greatly limited by the difficulty of getting a good footing.

Artemis continues his quest for further knowledge and is trying his best to get his hands on an artifact of greater interest. Therefore he doesn't have much magic at his hands. But this is a thing he plans to change.

Have you also longed for your constructs in minecraft being able to move?
Would you like to build a spaceship and then be able to fly it?
Well then you should check Scrumbleship. You build your ship block by block. From small fighters to giant Star ships. And unlike minecraft Scumbleship has more option when it comes to edges and corners.
Then fill your ship with all the essentials. Guns, sensors, lifesupport, explosive bolts and lots of more!
Once your ship is finished you can fly it. Either online with friends as your crew or with AI crew.
By moving inside the ship and operating different computers you control your ship in space.
You are free to zoom around, explore, mine asteroids and even fight other spaceships.
The game is built with voxels which gives a realistic damage simulation.
It is built to be a realistic sci-fi combat simulator.
There is already a free demo out where you can build ships!
The developer is very nice and dedicated, help him continue his great work!

posted a message on Non-Updating Redstone
Hello There. I am currntly making a Adventure Map. It is on the edge to become testable. But I have one problem. Torches and delay-circuts not beeing up to date or just dead when the map is saved and later opened. I have alot of redstone on my map and that several circuits dies everytime you leave the map is very annoying. It is easy to fix. All you have to do is remove the dead torch and place a new torch at the same spot. This error makes me have to cleanse the entire system before each time someone wants to play the map. And therefore it is impossible to release the map because players cant cleanse the system. Anyone having the same problem and hopefully a fix?
Definiton of a dead torch: A non-updating torch. More or less it stays on even if the block it is connected to is powered. Or vice versa it stays off even if it isn't beeing powered.
This happens quite often to delaycircuits and less often to torches. I have a lot of clocks of different speeds on the map and I would guess about 50% fail everytime the map is opened.
Would love some help so I can finish and release my map. ( I am building it in single player )

Yes, apparently it needs even more memory. It has already finished the import, but it then has to create an image of the map to display on the screen, and that is where it runs out of memory. (I can't explain why it doesn't show an error message when that happens; I'll look into that.) Perhaps your map has "spider legs" that make the image very large?

Try giving the program 10GB. That won't make it actually use 10GB, it just means that it can use a maximum of 10GB.

Gave it 10G, same problem :/

I'm glad that we're at least making progress... :wink.gif:

What do you mean by you can "shift tools"? You can click on tools and when you do, they definitely become selected? But when you click on the map nothing happens? That is very strange. The map you're importing is evidently very large (since you need so much memory), so it could take many minutes or even much longer to import. While it's importing it will seem like the program hangs, so that would be expected, but during that time you should not be able to select any tools.

That you're able to select tools would indicate that the import has stopped, but I can't explain how it could fail to import the map, yet give no error message. Have you checked whether there is an error message in the command prompt window when this happens?

If not, then are you sure that it really isn't just taking a very long time to do the import? Would you mind trying again and giving it a really long time? Maybe start the import before you go to bed and then see what, if anything, it did the following morning, something like that?

Doing it again over long time now. And this popped up in cmd after some minutes: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap spance
    at java.awt.image.DataBufferInt.<init><Unknown Source>
    at java.awt.image.Raster.createPackedRaster<Unknown Source>
    at java.awt.image.DirectColorModel.createCompatibleWritableRaster<Unknown Source>

This keeps on with about 30more. they start with javax.swing/org.pepsoft/java.awt/java.swing

Do I need even more memory? The sieze of the save is 20mb. Altough i dont thing its alot of area in the map.
The part of the map that is used is only about 100x400/500

I'm glad you got the .bat file to work! That's the most important step.

I think the reason that you can't allocate more than 1 GB is that you are using a 32-bit version of Java. I can tell because it is installed in "Program Files (x86)". You need to install a 64-bit version of Java to be able to use arbitrary amounts of memory. It would be installed in "Program Files", so you can check there whether you already have one. If not, download it from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-se-jre-7-download-432155.html (choose the "Windows x64" download). Install it, and modify your .bat file so that it uses the 64-bit version from "Program Files", and then you should be able to give it 2GB, 3GB or even more.

Additional progress made. Now i got 64bit and the bat is linked to it. I now start worldpaint with 2G. I select the map for import. Then nothing happens. It seems to load. I cannot change the default map that comes up when i started Worldpaint but i can shift tools and such so i dont think it has crashed. Even tough I waited for several minutes nothing happened. I didnt even get an error message or anything like that.

Seems like you've not defined a Path to the java.exe, which is located in "C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\". Could also be \jre6\, if you haven't updated Java yet.
How about writing a batch file? So you won't need to write that command everytime, but just use the batch file to start World Painter.
    Would look like this:

Name it whatever you like, use .bat as the extension, place it into the same folder as World Painter.jar and then just execute the batch file.

Thank you for trying to help me but i still dont get it to work. I made the .batfile and run it. Cmd said something like: cannot find specified search route. Then i tried with jre6 instead of 7 and i had the same problem, ow it says i should try 2G. I wondered where my java was so i searched and found it being positioned in the ControlPanel and beeing up to date. Thank you again for taking time to help me. I can't seem to get this to work.

Got that part to work now. I defined my own way.

    @ECHO OFF
    SET BINDIR=%~dp0
    CD /D "%BINDIR%"
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xmx1G -jar WorldPainter.jar
    PAUSE

now the bat file starts worldpaint but when i try to import once again i get the same error. It needs more memory. I tried to foolishly allocate 2 and 3 g but then it said it couldnt allocate that much memory. altough my computer has over 12MB of RAM

Ohh, My fault. I did mean Can't import manmade structures. But thanks anyway. A very nice program you have made

Q: I'd like to give Worldpainter more ram, how do I do that?
A: In a terminal or command prompt type java -Xmx1G -jar WorldPainter.jar Where the '1G' part indicates the amount of RAM you want to assign, in this case one gigabyte. You can give it more, but always give it less than you have actual physical memory in your PC.

But now I have a new problem. When i do java -Xmx1G -jar WorldPainter.jar the cmd says:
java is not a internal, external, program or commandofile.
    What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for helping me out.
