Joey_San posted a message on Discussion - Is Minecraft hard to learn?Posted in: Survival ModeI was also among the players who started playing Minecraft without having any knowledge of the game from the Wiki or other means, mostly because I didn't even know such a thing existed. And I would say that a lot of the mistakes I made early on would have been avoided had I read the Wiki in that case! However, that's part of the fun for me. As leangreen and others have noted, part of the enjoyment is figuring out how the game is played (much like any other game really). That's one of the things I miss, in fact. At this point, I know everything I need to know about how to play this game, and that has shifted my focus as to what I'm trying to achieve in it. But I miss the "training wheels phase," so to speak, in which I spent a lot of time discovering all the many aspects of the game that exist for us to enjoy. This is partly why I do not update to the newest version right away - I still want to keep this feeling as much as I can without sacrificing the projects I am already doing.
For example, I didn't even know fishing was a thing for at least the first four months I played. Oh, how that would have helped me earlier.

Hexalobular posted a message on Should I continue playing Minecraft?Posted in: DiscussionIf you've lost interest in the base game why not try some variants?
Skyblock, modded Minecraft.
There are mods that add all kinds of interesting things like magic or complex technology.
Start in a different biome, a one tree island in the middle of an ocean for instance, or a single biome world, I enjoyed a beach world, desert can be interesting, an icy spikes world is quite a challenge to get started in (perhaps too extreme).
Some people think Hardcore mode (just a single life) adds some spice (it didn't do much for me).
Have you tried multiplayer?
There were some pretty big changes in 1.16, and more to come in 1.17
you could read up on them and make sure you check them out.
Or just stick with Roblox if you're enjoying that.
Or check out something completely new if you're feeling like a change.

Quillbee posted a message on TERRIBLE Minecraft puns!
Me and my buddy Jonster fly around and make some truly terrible Minecraft puns. If you like puns, maybe you'll like this video. Otherwise - I'm very sorry. Perhaps we should be pun-ished.

_Lex_ posted a message on Discussion - Is Minecraft hard to learn?Posted in: Survival ModeI think it is kind of hard to learn IF you learn without looking things up, and go in blind.
As was the situation with me when I joined. None of my friends had MC and I was the first of my friend group years ago. I was not very *into* looking up ways to go about anything in any game (For some reason I thought it was cheating *in my eyes*) so I gone in blind and you best believe I gained a phobia of anything that was not Peaceful mode for about 2 years until I finally started to look things up on Google/Pedias. So I guess it took me two years because I never wanted to look things up.
I'd say 7/10, difficult but.. there is a peaceful mode to cushion it so.. yeah.

Pokedroid64 posted a message on Does Painterly still exist for the latest Minecraft versions?Posted in: Resource Pack DiscussionI've been playing recently with an old version of the Painterly resource/texture pack, & I was wondering if there was anywhere that had an updated version for 1.16. It's always been my favorite texture pack and it's upsetting that there's nothing like it and it hasn't been updated in forever.

eiche_brutal posted a message on Discussion - Is Minecraft hard to learn?Posted in: Survival ModeWhat i don't like is the F3 screen. It's a mess for newbies who try to coordinate with friends.
There should be another clean overlay that tells you your position and the direction you are facing.
I use a lot of mods to compensate for it's poor design.
While i think maps are fine as they are now i never liked the compass. It doesn't behave like you would it expect to do.
Unfortunetly with the respawn anchor and it's new mechanics the compass stays as a tool that trolls you untill someone tells you what it realy does.
Sure you can use the compass in a creative way but to a new player it's a weird disappointing tool.

I like this idea. I prefer this rather than having an entirely new block that takes way too many resources to even use.

I don't think Mojang will kill JE. Not only is it a terrible move but it wouldn't even make sense since it's the most popular version. Everyone is just paranoid. This is starting to remind me of the days back when Microsoft bought Mojang, imo not much even changed. I really don't understand why people are so paranoid and why people insist on spreading false fear when the migration hasn't even happened yet.

I seriously doubt amethysts will lead to vanilla AE. It would seem very out of place in vanilla imo.

I just realized, when the migration does happen, doesn't this mean most accounts that have been stolen would be locked since they won't be able to migrate?
3
^^ Exactly! We all need to stay calm and wait to see what happens in the next few months. I don't think much will even change. The community just assumes the worst will happen.
3
Thank you! Lately I've been hearing more about stolen accounts, so I feel like this migration thing would be the best thing to secure peoples accounts.
It's nice to see some community members are taking this migration situation calmly. I think it's best to wait and see what happens before making any assumptions.

I really feel like everyone is overreacting about this whole migration thing. I know Microsoft have done some shady stuff in the past, but remember, Mojang even said that the game would not change at all. Also why wouldn't players want to play on Bedrock? IMO both versions have their flaws and advantages, for me the main advantage of Bedrock is the fact that you can play across platforms, something I would like to have and one of the main reasons why I would like to get Bedrock in the future. Also I can't stand how everyone just immediately assumed we were going to get micro-transactions in Java edition. I feel like people are just paranoid. Another thing, what do you mean by
Microsoft isn't changing anything in the actual game, they're changing the way you log in. I'm sorry but I don't agree with anything you've said in this post. I've seen some people claim Microsoft have held their accounts in ransom and other just awful stuff. I really can't believe any of this unless I see solid evidence. This post is all speculation and theorizing and the migration isn't even here yet. I suggest waiting until it actually happens before we actually start theorizing.

Maybe a grace period that lasts a few seconds to ensure you don't die straight away. Also no Pay to Play stuff. A few years back I remember joining a Survival games server where you could buy special gear for real money. When the game started anyone who bought this stuff would have it straight out of the gate. As you could imagine, this was pretty frustrating. Other than that I think you're fine. I'll make sure to check out your server soon.

I made my skin based around this mod. It sucks to see it's gone.

This seems like a really fun challenge, but changing all the walls from wood to stone seems really boring. Also sorry to hear your world was corrupted Nyscole. It can be really unmotivating when you lose your world. Which is why I always back up my worlds after playing on them.
