posted a message on I'm looking for an old cave generation mod
    Quote from TheMasterCaver»

It is not possible to get caves in Superflat, much less modify the way they generate or get anything like normal world generation, only various layers of the same block (aside from "decorations" like ores, which are not customizable); I've also decompiled the latest version (1.16) and the cave generation code is still entirely hard-coded, nor have I seen any possible options for changing them in vanilla, other than on/off (in 1.8's Customized and maybe the current custom world type). The same is also mostly true for mineshafts (their frequency is only customizable in Superflat) and dungeons (only 1.8's Customized allows changing their frequency).

Otherwise, my own mods are some of the only mods out there that give 1.6.4 cave generation in newer versions and they aren't Forge mods so they are more complicated to use with other mods (by default Forge will complain that the jar is corrupt/tampered with and refuse to run but you can add JVM arguments to tell it to ignore it, otherwise, any conflicts would be with any mods that override the vanilla class). I did find a Forge mod but it is for 1.12.2; another is only for 1.7.2.

    Thanks for the help! :D

Yes, as long as you add "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepencies=true -Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true" to the JVM arguments, as mentioned in post #297. The only compatibility issue that I know of is mods that override "MapGenCaves" will replace it with their own; otherwise, even the more complex "TMCWv4 Underground" is known to be compatible (for this mod you may want to omit the class that changes ore generation as it overrides the ranges for various vanilla ores).

So I add that code into the JVM arguments and drop the mod into the mods folder?

Does the old cave generation mod work with Forge?

Is there a mod for 1.8 that changes the cave gen to make it similar to the cave gen before 1.7?

Yep, item model system was changed, unfortunately and there is no longer an icon to use for 2d.

I´ve been wondering if I could change the items back to their classic 2D icons, purely for nostalgia. It´s a shame there´s no way to do it.

That should be just fine if you don't plan on playing with a lot of mods. What I would be more concerned about is what GPU the laptop has as that will determine the frame rates that you get in-game (for the most part). Does the laptop have integrated graphics or a dedicated graphics card? Integrated graphics cards can be fairly weak and may not perform very well. Not all integrated graphics cards are horrible for games like Minecraft though. Cards like the Intel UHD 630 should be more than enough if you don't expect to get hundreds of frames per second.

It´s not a laptop it´s a PC with an AMD Ryzen 3 2200g, if I remember correctly it has Radeon Vega 8.

I´ve been using the same laptop for 8 years but recently I managed to save up enough money for an actual PC. I´m planning on getting a PC with 8 GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen 3 2200g, is this build good enough to play Minecraft and have Discord open? My standards are pretty low, my laptop was nearly 9 years old and it only had 4 GB of RAM.

So glad to see this texture pack revival isn´t dead. There aren´t many classic texture packs still around, but I´m glad this one´s going to get an update soon. Keep up the good work! :D

posted a message on How does one learn to build in a certain style?

I have been playing Minecraft for nearly 9 years now, and I've come to the realization that I don't really know how to build in any styles other than medieval (kinda). I love looking at all the different building styles on Hermitcraft, but how do I actually learn to build in these different styles? I would love to learn to build in a Victorian era style. Any tips?

    Quote from Agtrigormortis»

But making monsters spawn just for having a bed next to a wall would ruin a lot of peoples houses by spawning Creepers inside them, according to your description, since even with lighting there would be a mechanic involving beds "too close to walls". This isn't an improvement, it is destroying people's work. Surely if you've taken the time to illuminate housing properly it should be rewarded by no monster spawns inside it under any circumstance?

dark blocks outside could have monster spawns yes, this is acceptable, or having monsters wake players up during the night if they have failed to light their bases up properly (above 7 in all adjacent floor surfaces) or if they haven't placed gates in front of wooden doors to stop zombies from getting in.

I didn't suggest we should implement the "too close to the wall" problem, I should've been more clear. I think players waking up in the middle of the night because they didn't properly light up their base could work to balance beds. You would have to make sure their are no blocks with a light level of 6 or lower.

First off, WOW! This is amazing. I've never been good at big building projects even though I've been playing for nearly 9 years now. Thanks for inspiring me! ^_^

posted a message on Are Beds Overpowered?

Way back, around 2011 I believe, beds were a lot more difficult to use than they are now. Back then, if you slept in a dark room or area, you would wake up in the middle of the night and get attacked by monsters (I remember laughing my head off whenever this happened to the Yogscast). You also couldn't place a bed close to a wall, doing so would also spawn monsters and wake you up, not sure if this one was intentional, but maybe we could have one of these old features back in the game? A lot of the times whenever I'm exploring, I tend to sleep in the middle of a dark forest and just skip the night, but if the old sleeping rules were implemented back in the game, this wouldn't be possible anymore. Perhaps the bed would have to check a certain area around it. If there are a lot of dark blocks near it, monsters would have a higher chance of waking you up in the middle of the night, making skipping the night while exploring a lot more difficult.

It looks great so far. Maybe you could build a storage system or somewhere to store your things instead of just having them outside. Maybe set up a villager breeder for librarians and enchantments. Take your pick. I would love to see an update in the future, keep up the good work!:D

posted a message on Cleaning Copper
    Quote from worfer27»

Copper rusts over an incredibly long time. It would take around 60 in game days to get to the point of even slighlty weathered copper, I don't think this will be an issue but I suppose I dont see a problem with cleaning it

It may take a while to rust, but if you're like me and you like to stay on one world for a long time, cleaning copper would be absolutely necessary. I just hope they change the copper block texture to something more attractive rather than the tiles.
