Microsoft Security essentials has always been terrible, I would suggest getting AVG free edition, it's one of the best you can get without having to pay.
I disagree. MSE is about as unobtrusive as a AV could possibly be, and after years of computing and gaming, I base 100% of my judgement of an AV program on this sole factor. Quite honestly, I think AV programs are a complete waste of time and the only reason I use one at all is because MSE is so invisible. I've been infected before even tho AVG was running. The fact is... if the virus signature isn't in the AV program's database yet, then it cannot and will not stop it from running. People who use viruses to spread their crap know this fact. So every virus is a new virus, for the most part. AV's wont' stop em immediately, and when they do, the perps will just move on to a new one.
For the average computer user, any AV is fine. Just don't pay for one, that's all. I just talked my mom out of paying Symantec for yet another year's worth of her beloved Norton. The fact I was installing a Microsoft product seemed to put her at ease. PT Barnum effect.

well it's 1000x1000x30 (roughly) since gold is only found on the bottom 32 levels. and the wiki says gold rate is 0.1437% of total blocks.
that's 30 million times 0.001437 which is about 43,000 blocks of gold ore.
however, its less than that because of stuff like lava lakes obliterating some of the gold that would have been there, and empty space (caverns) that also removes some gold that would otherwise have been there.
I can't even imagine mining 1000x1000x30 blocks in an efficient branch mining system. But I'm trying anyway. Those damn lava lakes keep putting a crimp in my plans and taking up far too much time (see my obsidian post).

That was another thought... add the mp3's to xbox. Yes, I read that the only way you can do that is from a CD inserted into the xbox drive. But space on the xbox hard drive is limited. I have the 250GB version but I think I only have 60GB free, and sooner or later I'm gonna run out and have to start deleting old games (I always copy a game to the hard drive, I never play a game from the disc).
So the advantages are (1) don't take up any space on the hard drive, (2) don't have to burn CD's or be limited to a single CD of music. The disadvantage is that my PC must remain running while I'm playing xbox. That's pretty normal for me anyway to have em both running (as well as my laptop so I can use the Minecraft wiki and forums while playing).
But the bottom line is, instead of being limited to one CD, with this streaming method I have my entire mp3 library at my disposal.

I spend all my time down deep, mining for gold, not diamonds. I agree, gold is far too rare. Still... I've been able to scrounge up enough to build about 1km of elevated rail. It's about 26 levels above sea level (below the clouds) so it's perfectly flat except for the ramps at start and finish. I use 2-1 slope on the ramps and use a powered rail every third step. That's where most of my gold has gone. On the flat portions, I use one powered rail for every 29 regular rails... Every 30th rail is powered, with a redstone torch beside it. And I still have about a stack and a half of gold available for my next portion of the project. I've been concentrating on mining before I start building any more of it.

I don't use Ipod, but I do have a little Sansa mp3 player. That was my first attempt, I plugged it in to the xbox via it's USB cable.
However, I soon learned that for whatever reason, xbox will NOT allow mp3's to be played off a portable device. I can see all the folders on the Sansa... but they all say "no files found" or similar. I guess this was Microsoft's way of enforcing DRM (digital rights management) or something... it's pretty stupid and silly since I'm able to do the same thing with Windows Media Player. All my mp3's are ripped from my own CD's so there's no DRM. I don't do "Itunes" and all that silly crap.
Glad you brought this up, I should have mentioned it. In my research, I thought I read that the Ipod will not even work as a portable device in xbox. Maybe that's incorrect tho. If you have one, you can figure it out. The method I described works for me, the only drawback is that I need to keep my PC on at all times while I'm playing xbox.

Anyhow... after a few days of play, I was really getting sick of the "C418" music in the game. It's not horrible, in fact I really liked it and I think it's good music and fits the game well.
But... I was playing for like 16 hours every day the first week, and man... the music was really starting to irk me.
So... I did what I always do. I went to the internet and started to search. How could I replace the music in the game?
At first it seemed like I couldn't. There's no way in the game to select your own music. After a week of non-stop Minecraft, I was ready to stop and quit. I really couldn't take the same tunes over and over again. It was making me want to scream. LOL
But then... I found the answer!!!!! And I wanted to share it here for those who are similarly tired of the same five or so tunes.
What you need is a PC networked with your xbox. And you need Windows Media Player on your PC (not Windows Media Center... that confused me at first).
To play different music in Minecraft, start up the PC and the xbox. Don't go into the game yet. At the startup screen, hit the big green button in the middle of the controller to pull up the xbox menu. Go to "Media" with one click of the right button. Go down to "Music Player" and hit the A button. You should see your networked PC here. Select it. Next, you will see all your music that Windows Media Player has catalogued. If you're like me and never use WMP, then you'll have to set it up. I use Winamp normally, but I went ahead and added my mp3 files in WMP (not gonna get into how to set up the Media Player, just add your music directories to it's library, it's pretty simple).
So all you need to do is pick some music to play... by album, by artist, by genre, etc.
Your music should now start playing thru the xbox. Hit the red "B" button a bunch of times to get back to the main xbox menu. Start up Minecraft and start playing. Instead of the in-game music, it will be your music playing!! You'll still hear all the sound effects (like pickaxe and mobs) so fiddle with your volume adjustments until you've got the right levels.
Hope that helps. As I said, I was ready to quit the game after a week just due to the repetitious music... but this was a godsend for me. Enjoy!

No, I don't have any xbox friends. LOL Not sure I want any though. It gets annoying and when I do add a friend, I typically delete them after a while. My real life friends and family all use the playstation. For whatever reason, I had to be different and get xbox.
I guess if I did a multiplayer game with complete strangers, I'd have to protect all my valuables and worry about "griefers" and all that stuff. So no thanks, not right now anyway. I'd hate to lose all my stuff and regret it. I'd have to start a new game up to do a multiplater, and that seems too tough right now with all I've invested in my current world.

If there's no water around and the lava is relatively small, I simply use gravel to soak up the lava, then I pickaxe it all back up (hence all the flint). I have to make sure there's not a single lava source block anywhere. I keep a chest full of gravel just for this purpose.
But usually there IS water around, and I've spent more than a few 16 hour days changing every single block in the lava lakes to obsidian, then mining it all up with my diamond pickaxe. Yesterday I went thru almost two diamond pickaxes, only using it when I'm actually breaking an obsidian (or other gem) block. I use stone pickaxes for normal mining. I'm now up to 2531 obsidian. LOL Think about how much time it's taken me to break all 2500 of them. Like I said... this is becoming a serious problem. haha A couple of the lakes have been pretty huge, believe me. When I'm done, I'm left with this huge brightly lit cavern (from all my torches), and I sit back and admire it all. It's almost like a work of art. grin
It's a slow but logical process. First I turn the top surface of the lava to obsidian completely. Then I work my way in from the edges, one block at a time. As I expose the lava, I open up my water (I create a stone pipeline from the source) and that gives me a place to stand on in order to mine the next row of obsidian.
What I found is that as long as I'm at the same level as the obsidian block, and as long as there's a block behind the one I'm mining, the obsidian will "pop" to me and won't fall into the lava. So the system I use is important. I save often and try to never lose a single block into the lava. I keep this up one level at a time until the entire depth of the lava lake is gone (and all in my inventory).
I know I could build a massive explosion-proof house with 2500 obsidian, but the black makes it pretty ugly to look at.
So................. what am I supposed to do with all this obsidian? LOL
I wonder if I've mined the most obsidian in the xbox world? The leaderboard doesn't sort by individual block type (I wish it would). Right now I rank 262 in mining with 36,000+ stone...
I guess I have some kind of minecraft OCD... I also have so many Flint, Redstone Dust, Dandelion Yellow, Pork Chops, etc. that I just don't know what to do with any of it. I probably have four double chests full of cooked pork chops scattered around my little world.
The only thing I have in mass quantities that I have no problem using is cobblestone. I build a humongous pyramid at the center of the map, first of all. Then I am in the process of building a "highway in the sky" rail network between all my various outlying homes at the map corners. That will take a while and use a lot of cobble. I also build a tunnel of cobblestone in the nether to protect my portal and get me all the way to my base at the bottom near the lava. But I finally gave up on those stupid ghasts and "cheated" (peaceful mode) to get all my glowstone and soul sand. It was far too frustrating on normal mode.
Ah well... gotta get back to mining and stuff. If you have any ideas what I can do with all this obsidian, let me know!
