If they're insufficiently tech-savvy enough to add their own texture packs, despite the program itself opening the texture pack folder for your pleasure... What makes you think they'll be able to figure out how to switch texture packs in the program itself?
Also, help me out here... What precisely does "A less frequent look" even mean?

This is waay too loong.... I'm sure you can shorten this up :wink.gif:
Would it be a valid suggestion if I were to say "Hoes do nothing, give them more functions, such as:" without explaining exactly what I mean by "nothing"?
No, I don't think it would. This is not a ridiculous amount of text.
May 30, 2011I don't think this has been addressed; At least not in the first three pages of search, and certainly not in the pinned thread.Posted in: Suggestions
Everyone knows how hoes work, right? You use them to till field squares so you can plant wheat... And so far, only wheat, in vanilla.
Which is... Kind of pointless.
Who here has a field of 60 squares of wheat? I don't, and I'm pretty certain I never will.
Which generally means...
One wood hoe, created to start the field; Average 30 or so uses. A well-built wheat field is generally protected from pigs and stuff, so maintenance is a rare thing. This means you'll average break it after maybe a stack of wheat, maybe two stacks, at which point you... Save your iron for more useful tools, and use wood to make another 60 uses worth of hoe.
You with me so far? That all seems logical and straightforward. No excessive assumptions. It's not like tilling takes time or effort, right?
Anyway, this sort of negates most of the usefulness of the higher level hoes. This, then can be "solved" (Insomuch that it's less an actual problem and more just a minor annoyance.) several ways;
1) Increase the Wood Hoe's uses to 180, remove higher variations.
2) Merge Hoe into Shovel, allowing the shovel to till blocks.
3) When the hoe is used to strike a plant, such as a flower, or wheat, or sugarcane, that plant is immediately moved to the inventory, instead of flying off at wild, at the cost of one use of the tool.
I doubt this will be much more complicated to code than wolves.
May 25, 2011I'd just like to point out, for the record, that Minecraft does already have "RPG Elements"?Posted in: Suggestions
Armor that effects how you take damage: Check.
Weapons and items that have tiered or varied effects: Check.
Health measured in more than one hit: Check.
Inventory management: CHECK.
(At least, the people who call Monster Hunter an RPG would like you to believe that these are RPG elements. Whatever, they're morons anyway.)
You know what else has at least most these elements at any given time?
Ratchet and Clank. Megaman Zero. God of War. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Deus Ex. Bioshock. Borderlands.
To say that RPG elements wouldn't mesh with Minecraft would be to say that Minecraft is a schizophrenic mess of a game that doesn't even know what it's doing.
Now, I'm not saying Encumbrance would improve the game. I'm not stupid. But RPG elements have never and will never be a bad thing, when done intelligently. The problem is limited solutions to expansive problems.

May 26, 2011Posted in: SuggestionsA Guide to the Minecraft ThemeMaking Your Suggestions Fit The Theme
There are many reasons that a suggestions would not be good for Minecraft. This includes it not having enough uses, being overly complicated, or not being balanced. However, sometimes a suggestion just doesn't fit the theme, and that can be a little confusing. What does "Not fitting" mean, and what is the theme of minecraft? This post should cover the basics of the Minecraft theme, so you can make your suggestions fit. Please note that this is just a guide: If you think your suggestion still fits despite not agreeing with these guidelines, feel free to post it and say way you think it still fits. Minecraft is a unique, creative, fantasy, sandbox game.
UniqueMinecraft is a unique game. I think most people have realized that for themselves: There is no game that provides the creative, immersive experience minecraft does. This is because part of Minecraft's theme is being somewhat different from any other game or world. It has unique ores, worlds, magic, and monsters, although it does have some common fantasy elements. And it would most-likely be best if it stayed that way. There should not be and overwhelming number of generic fantasy elements, although some are fine to define the world. Also, applying ideas from other games is not necessarily a bad thing, but if the ideas is used in the exact same context or is suggested just to make Minecraft more like that other game, it will most likely mess with the uniqueness of Minecraft.
TL;DR: Minecraft is unique, so shouldn't become similar to some other game and should try to not blend in with any other fantasy worlds, with some level of uniqueness.
CreativeMinecraft is a creative game. It is all about surviving in a world by building your own base, farm, mine, what-have-you. You can choose exactly how you want anything you make to look. The best example of something creative is redstone: a simple ore with simple rules, that can do a ridiculous amount of operations: Indicators, weaponry, traps, computers, ect. That's why, before anything is suggested, it is good to look at it and say "Is there any way I could let the player add his creativity here?". For example: Instead of adding a craft-able wheelbarrow, why not add a craftable wheel that lets players design a cart or chariot? (This is just an example: Don't complain about how that would be hard to code.) In other words, think of how something could be more creative instead of just a single use.
TL;DR: Minecraft is creative, so things are best when they are versatile and inspire the player to make there own creation with it, and worst when they turn a chance to be creative into a mundane, uniform job.
FantasyMinecraft is a fantasy game. We have zombies, skeletons, magic dust, portals, and a realm of fire. More specifically, it is persudo-fantasy, meaning that magic isn't front and center, but rather a small part of gameplay. In this way, sometimes non-fantasy elements will stick out. Now, fantasy is a very diverse genra, so it can be hard to judge what is fantasy and what is not. Fantasy worlds, as a general statement, include magic, monsters, and many things that this world does not have, while often excluding modern technology and taking place in a medieval type era. Now, this isn't always true, and there is much room in the fantasy genera, so this leaves a lot of room for people to suggest their take on minecraft fantasy.
I have noticed that with many suggestions, people knock them down by saying "Too modern". I don't believe that this is their real complaint, as minecraft has no time frame. Their real complaint is that it doesn't fit the fantasy theme, which usually stays in the medieval era. This is usually some what of a good rebuttal, but as there is much room for interpretation in minecraft fantasy, a unique suggestion, even if not fitting with the standard fantasy status-quo, can sometimes be a good suggestion.
TL;DR: Minecraft is a fantasy setting, but there is much room to figure out the exact theme.
SandboxMinecraft is a sandbox game. The main point of a sandbox game is that there is no end goals, no preset paths to follow, no requirements to play a certain way. Most players start there games by punching a tree, finding coal, and making a base, but there is no need to do that. If you wanted to, you could stay outside to fight monsters all night. While the game is mostly about mining and crafting, there is no reason you need to do either of those. Many people would be content with building vast creations and having nothing to do with mining. In this way, any suggestions that adds late game goals, quests to follow, requirements to "win", forced progression, or any other limiting way of playing the game, would not be a good idea. This would restrict the freedom that minecraft prides, and would be pointlessly limiting what a player can do.
To make something clear: This refers only to the current game mode. Notch has stated that there is a possibility for other game modes (such as adventure) that may not be a sandbox. This is perfectly fine, but any non sandbox elements must go in these alternate game modes.
TL;DR: Minecraft is a sandbox, and there should be no rules for how to win or survive.
Now, just because a suggestion doesn't fit the theme doesn't mean it's a bad idea. In many cases, something totally non-fantasy can be turned fantasy with simply a re-skin. Look as pistons: They were an extremely powerful, creative, wonderful tool, but in the mod they looked modern and hydraulic. By simply changing the visual design with a stone base, a wooden pusher, and a thiner bar, Mojang was able to turn this absolutely brilliant, but non-fantasy idea, into one that would fit the theme.
Hopefully this will provide an unbiased, understandable, helpful guide to making your suggestions fit the minecraft theme. Please note that this is just a guide: If you think your suggestion still fits despite not agreeing with my guidelines, feel free to post it and say way you think it still fits. Please, comment ideas to make this thread more thorough and correct, as well as added more aspects of the Minecraft theme. If you would like this to be pinned, keep it alive and suggest it to mods!

I don't see this can make 1x1x1 cubes look any better.
Agreed. LETS ALL DO WHAT OTHER GAMES HAVE. WE NEED SOME MUTHA****IN HD GRAPHICS UP IN THIS MUTHA****IN GAME.

I'm not going to read 5 pages of this ********.
OP, STFU, stop whining, make your god-damn obsidian bridge, and get over it. If you want difficulty, apply a mod that caps your health to 1 heart.
My idea's better. :unsure.gif:
If he wanted difficulty, he'd build the bridge out of lava.

You just won Minecraft.
I also edited all the water (and ice) into lava, all tree trunks into obsidian, and (once the fine fellas over in Modding mod the block for me), all leaves will become Glowstone (with lowered light to enable mob spawn). And all dirt/grass is soul sand.
I gave myself a full set of wood tools via INVedit to start. No armor. Now my goal is to see how long I can last.
Difficulty? Real men make their own.
May 25, 2011Why are guys even influenced by "Boobie magic"? Makes no sense to me. Hi person I don't care about brushing your boobs on me. Here is my wallet, SSID, Bank info, a copy of my birth certificate, and anything else you want... What?Posted in: General Off Topic
May 25, 2011As a wee lad, I wore whatever it was mommy picked out. So for quite a while, I wore the ol' tightey whiteys. Around 6th grade, I questioned this choice of undergarments, and started wearing boxers.Posted in: General Off Topic
I wore boxers for the longest time, until I went in and had a vasectomy procedure performed. After the initial rest-in-a-jockstrap period, and considering the fact that I commute via bicycle, I really felt like a bit more support was in order. I didn't want to wear briefs again, and boxers were too loose and free, so I compromised and I now wear boxer briefs.
Well, turns out I really liked the boxer briefs. So now that's all I wear. Hangin' out with Michael Jordan with Hanes boxer briefs, oh yeaaaahhh....

You make a good point, it's hard to make any predictions because EVERYTHING would change, seeing people naked in the streets might not get you excited because you've seen it your entire life and it's normal.
Exactly. Also I think society makes too big of a deal out of sex. How many young people are worried about being a virgin? By young I mean around 14. Back in junior high I was teased for being a virgin, even though I didn't even want to have sex. No idea how this is near where you live, but my area acts like sex is more important than school, or the only reason they go to school is to find another person to have sex with.
