Edit to add: Removed the orientations in the blockstate json and it works. Now I just have to go back and edit my terrible base image before splitting it in Krita. Too much contrast, I think...
Experimenting in Optifine with repeat textures for sand with rippled texture (8x8 size) and noticed the top surfaces of the sand blocks are randomly oriented. Am I missing a parameter for this method?

Are Repeat and Overlay incompatible methods in Optifine or is there a workaround?
