    Re: Stuttering

I think I've solved it, at least for myself. Here's what I did:

Open the matmos_default.dat in a text editor. the first few lines show some sound events followed by 5 numbers then some path info for the sound files. The only changes I have made are to replace the 5th number of "SndCaveRumble" and "SndLavaSimulator" from 0 to 32. Don't get me wrong, I don't really know what I'm doing here.. all I know is that the game doesn't stutter and have reverb-y sound after I made this change. I hope this is helpful!

I am depressed in reading this thread, as I seem to be the only one so far who is having horrendous difficulties with MATMOS. I've installed the mod itself and modloader as per the instructions given, and whilst it loads fine the lag that seems to be effecting every location I visit is making it unplayable :sad.gif:. I have tried it both offline and in my privately run server and whilst there are periods of smooth running there are constant frame drops and even stages of complete screen freeze as the sounds seem to reverberate and cacophony into a huge crescendo. I'm not the most tech savvy person so I have no idea what's causing it, but I thought I should at least inform the mod maker himself. (The mod looks fantastic btw).

You are definitely not the only person having stuttering problems, myself and at least one other person have been working with the author trying to figure out the cause.

Ok, I ran it with the console, here's the output from the moment I entered the hole in the wall that starts the stuttering:
(Atmos.Cond) CRocksAR turned off <--- Stepping into the hole. Stuttering begins in about 3 seconds.
    (Atmos.Set) SRockShelter turned off
    (Atmos.Env) ERockShelter is now disabled.
(Atmos.Cond) CWaterClose turned on <--- This is where I stepped out of the hole. Stuttering fades after about 5 seconds.
    (Atmos.Set) SWaterClose turned on
    (Atmos.Env) EWaterConstant is now active.

I hope this is more useful than it looks.. :sad.gif:

    Re: Stuttering

I've done a bit of testing out in a field. I first tried encasing myself in cobblestone, this produced no stuttering.
Next, I dug a 1x2 hole into a nearby dirt wall, 2 blocks deep. As soon as I stepped into the back of the hole, it started stuttering. After stepping back out, I had to wait for a moment for it to stop.. after doing this a few times, it seems to be linked to a specific ambient sound that would begin playing once I were standing in the hole. Kind of a deep, dull rumble sound, probably the rumble1.wav.

I can't say for sure whether this one .wav file is causing the stuttering, but when it fades out completely everything goes back to normal.

    EDIT:

Does the stuttering happen when you constantly move your mouse without moving?

Yes, as long as I'm not walking around, no amount of moving the mouse around will stop the stuttering.

Replace your matmos_default.dat with this version (you have to rename the file you just downloaded of course). Please tell me if it solved some issues. Sorry!

I did as you asked, but it still stutters when I'm standing still in my tunnel. Is there an aspect of the mod that changes depending on whether the player is moving or standing still? Maybe something's getting caught in a loop while standing still, at least that seems like something to investigate.

Could you open matmos_defailt.dat, look at line 209 which contains:

    EDrippingSounds SndDrip 0.6 0.3 2.7

Remove this line. There should NOT be a blank line in the data file.

Then save the file and see if it works fine afterwards?

At first it seemed to have worked, but then it began stuttering again. Some info about where I am when this happens: I'm indoors, in a tunnel of cobblestone with doublestep floors and a rail track nearby, I can hear running water and I *may* be close enough to a fire block to hear it, I'm not sure. Something interesting, the stuttering seems to only happen when I am standing still; if I run around in circles it seems mostly ok.

Tell me, if you put some fire (flint and steel), does it lag too?
    ----
I'd like to know if you are lagging in the presence of fire... Sorry for the inconvenience!

I am also having horrible lag in caves. I made a little hut out of netherrack and set every block on fire, the ambient sound plays fine, there's no noticeable lag.

I removed Minecart Mania and so far that seems to have been the problem. No CPU spikes yet, been about 10 minutes.

About every 30-60 seconds, my server maxes out the core it's running on for 5-10 seconds, causing lag for anyone playing.

My server's on Win7-64, with a 2.66ghz core2duo and 4GB of Ram, running Hey0's v133 with these plugins: CuboidPlugin, VoxelSniper, CraftBook, MinecartMania, and QuickPort.

I almost never have more than 2 people connected at once. I think it's probably one or more of the plugins at fault, so I'll soon be testing them to see if I can narrow down the culprit. I just wanted to post this here to see if something jumps out at someone as a likely cause.

Is this compatible with server version 0.2.8 running the fixed hMod 130? Not sure whether I'm doing something wrong, but the plugin's not loading properly.

Now that I'm home... nope, it doesn't work in single player, being that chat is disabled in single player for obvious reasons :smile.gif:

Wonder if chat can be enabled via modding..

I've been browsing through the mods looking for anything like a tool that can break any block instantly, but I haven't seen anything. Anyone know if this is possible, or know of a mod that already exists for this purpose?
