Tell us a bit about yourself: Been playing since Alpha. Most focused on building. Very self reliant but always helpful, even to my own detriment sometimes. I've had more than one person try to play stupid and steal things to grief me, I just give them even more free stuff anyway and they eventually give everything back saying "I feel really bad taking all this stuff, you're such a nice guy". Lol.
How active will you be?: Varies. I'm generally on late after work so it may often seem like I'm less active than I am.
Have you ever been banned from a private server?: Nope.
What do you think you can bring to the server? A unique aesthetic and a helpful hand. I thoroughly enjoy building naturally styled roads with only half slabs for elevation changes. People are often intimidated by my prolific, endless building though, and don't want to build any housing around my towns so a lot of it can go to waste.
Any other questions or comments?: I love to get drunk, even though I don't drink...
Show us some of your past builds or contraptions (images/videos) (Optional): Here's a few builds. I frequently do not finish them because they're such large scale and I do them 100% solo generally.
Advercity is currently looking for new residents. Lots of open road at the moment for people to build on. There is a full mountain to the right of the barn also. It's not a chunk error, the stupid chunk just didn't load.
Great server. Usually at least 1 mod on at any given time to deal with any issues, friendly and helpful community. Solid map, have found it very interesting from what I've seen.
The walls rise, still having trouble deciding on a name though...

Skills: Realistic survival building with minimal change to the natural landscape generation, and roads, I build a lot of roads...
About you: Been playing since Alpha. Haven't even touched the game in probably close to a year waiting for the aquatic update. I'm very self reliant and generally helpful to other players. Mostly focused on building, not really into PvP.
Been playing since Alpha, haven't even touched the game in probably close to a year while waiting for the aquatic update. Very self reliant. Very helpful to others. Focused on building primarily, I like to build in very difficult terrain while changing the landscape as little as possible to challenge myself.
The temple is pretty cool, but O...M...G... I love the eco-house! It looks so good and it has that cute pond next to it with the flow down the hill, just great. I think your builds are improving very quickly from one to the next.
One thing worth noting is that when many people talk about "strip mining" they are actually referring to a form of branch-mining, presumably like what I do, which is make a series of long parallel tunnels (as opposed to a main tunnel with short side branches):
Uhhhh, is that what the screenshots I posted of my strip mine looked like? I don't see "many people" referring to it in this thread... Just your own false opinion that "strip mining" = "branch mining". Which it doesn't for the record. Then my correct one.

technically, strip mining refers to a form of surface mining
So "technically" what exactly is "branch mining"? I'll give you a hint, it's a made up term. TECHNICALLY, you're drift mining.
I'm well aware of what real life strip mining is. What style of mining would you call this then?
Where you just cut away a 100x100x5 block area? I guess I'll have to call it "subterranean strip mining"? JUST TO BE TECHNICAL! LOLOLOL...
Yep, quarries are pretty useless. If you don't get lucky, you'll end up with a LOT of stone.
No, you'll end up with a lot of stone regardless... As was mentioned it's just a terrible idea to restrict yourself to certain chunks because a very limited amount of ore will spawn per chunk.
It's a terrible way to mine stone though, since you'll get so little ore as a byproduct. If you actually need stone(I frequently need a lot more than 3 double chests), the best idea is to start a strip mine. Or a "horizontal quarry" if you will. It's also incredibly helpful to have a maxed mining speed beacon and an eff 5 diamond pick as well(plus fortune 3 for diamonds and whatnot, of course). If you're instamining you can cut away vast amounts of stone incredibly quickly. You won't have to deal with anything dangerous either until your strip mine becomes quite large and then you'll have to deal with a ton of slime spawns. I don't actually see it as a problem though, it keeps me from having to build a slime farm and by the time they start spawning you'll have found 100 diamonds already.
A strip mine is very simple to make. Just mine straight down to Y-11, I make my mineshafts 1x2 and stand on the "line" between the two blocks which prevents you from falling into a cave/ravine/lava below. At the bottom I put a sign with water(must be at least 2 source blocks deep to prevent damage I think, but I make it 3 for safety lol) over it so that I can jump down the shaft without taking damage, I place ladders on one side and torches on the other as I make my way down. I make the same mineshafts every time and it generally only takes me 5-10mins on a new world with a stone pick.
My strip mines are 5 blocks tall and you just basically cut all the stone away. Like this.
Which gives you enough stone to build stuff like this.
Since it is a survival world, I try to keep the buildings on scale with the resources available and the level of my equipment, in this way I don't accumulate unfinished projects. I will definitely try larger buildings when I have caught up with posting, I am quite a bit ahead to what has been displayed in the thread so far. The buildings posted are from January and February). One curvy building is actually already complete (I won't spoil it, but it's a chilly one =)
Don't sell yourself short just because you're on survival. I only play vanilla survival and have made some pretty substantial structures. One of my biggest problems is unfinished projects though (I generally only complete around half my builds), so I see where you're coming from.
I also end up quite a bit behind where my world actually is when I'm keeping a journal, don't worry about it. Definitely looking forward to that curvy building though, sounds interesting!

I would beg to differ on the use of glass in this particular case, since it was done with the both to preserve a natural feature and to accentuate the part of the purpose of the buildings, which is to make glass. But as a general rule, I think it makes sense. I think there should always be room for the artist within us who needs to break rules, when certain inspiration hits. Anyway, I think the next build I am about to post has used glass in a better fashion, I hope you will agree.
We'll just have to agree to disagree ;P. I do make some pretty strange things sometimes and totally agree that people should go with their own creativity, I just think that glass flooring is a bit jarring and irks me personally.
I literally cannot stand seeing it used as flooring in my worlds, it drives me crazy seeing the block right under and the sides of the adjacent blocks. I do really like the skylight thing you did though. Now that's proper use of glass as "flooring", when you're standing above you can see into the room below. The clogs made me lol too, cute idea.
Love that "overview" screenshot of the village, it's coming together great. Keep up the good work.
TheWesson also reminded me of another voxel generator I use that you may find useful. I use it mostly for underwater domes but the cones can also be quite helpful as they can sometimes be tricky to do. It breaks the shapes down to each block layer or "level" as they call it, so it's pretty easy to follow.
I feel like there are too many block types in play ... people sometimes recommend 3 textures in a building - 2 similar and one contrasting.
Also you could build larger, this would help making curves.
This is very good advice. I would also suggest building larger.
If you're interested in building techniques, this thread has been the most impactful for me personally. It is from the Alpha, so I'm not sure everything is applicable, but it gives strong foundations of building theory. It covers a pretty wide range range of topics, from the basics to things a little more advanced. There's info on golden ratios, midpoints, the use of trim, etc. If you really want challenge yourself, it has a little bit on angled perspective(something I still can't do), or if you want to do some math it even tells you how to make parabolas.
Also, if you want to make curves, I suggest using these. You can cut the circles into quarters/halves for better integration into a building or to make more interesting curves than a plain circle.
Odd circles:
Even circles:
Great job so far though. My only real suggestion would be, never use glass for flooring. Like ever. The only appropriate time to use glass flooring IMO is if you're using it on an elevated platform and need the clear floor so you can look down at something.
TheWesson and I are in complete agreement on this thread however.

I always like that style of building, integrating with the environment.
Amazing builds!
The first picture of your World 1 is my favorite, seems like a setting for a movie, very cool
It seems more like movie sets to me than the setting of a movie. There were supposed to be a few different "districts" that each have their own feel and theme, like a movie lot that has a bunch of different sets. That's why the bank was on the opposite side of the city from the "castle", the eastern side was going to be more modern and the west more classical.
I think this is one of my most "movie setting" builds.
Could totally be the setting for a movie about a school for "gifted" children. Think Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children.
My bases always end up sprawling out from my original mine (which is always strategically placed but may be at spawn or thousands of blocks away). I try to edit the terrain as little as possible while building. I think it gives most of my "cities" a much more natural flow, I will only use half slabs on roads for example so they always have a nice slope to them. I also trend towards realistic builds.
Here's examples of 3 of my most developed worlds in various stages of completion (nothing ever really gets "finished").
Just FYI, you do not want to use lure if you're just going for mending books, that's probably why you have a double chest of green fish.
Lure will only increase your chance of pulling up fish, while luck of the sea is what reduces "junk" and increases treasure catches (like books). If you're using both lure and luck of the sea, you lose potential treasure catches because of the lure pushing fish catches.

Coral and turtles, need I say more?

It is for single player, multiplayer servers will have a server render distance that's separate from the client side render distance.
