They aren't large at all. Or perhaps they are and I've just been lucky.
I hit another ocean and sailed across it in only 15 minutes. There's 3 conclusions we can gather from my experience:
1: Oceans are not any larger than they are in normal worlds
2: I was lucky and sailed across the narrowest parts of the ocean
3: I was lucky and sailed across a small "large" ocean
At any rate, I finally made it out of that frozen hell.
I'm playing around in a world generated with large biomes. So far everything I've seen for the past few kilometers has been frozen solid. I just hit an ocean and my aim is to sail across it.
I figure it would be worth documenting how long this takes. I'm not sure how long it takes to traverse normal oceans in a boat; swimming takes 30 minutes.
Anyways, entertain me while I make this epic journey.
The artistry here touches my soul. The mastery of the arts, the infinite hours it must have taken these gods of creativity, to produce works unfathomable to us mere mortals, who wallow in the disgusting filth, the uncamoflauged walls, the floors not crafted with the utmost precision out of food, the ceiling not of the most useless TNT, we are truly shamed to live. But still, we are truly blessed in the greatest to be able to glimpse, be it for just a moment, the homes of the gods, which we may dream of only in the wildest of our imaginations.
You sir, are not the best minecrafter ever... you are the minecraft god. your level of epic building skillz are greater that notch's. (jeb doesn't know how to build anything.) you should submit this to Curse, then maybe they can spotlight this work of art!
I've already emailed the image to Notch, Jeb, the Curse CEO, Santa Claus, Jesus, the Nobel Prize committee and Barrack Obama.
The deals are bad because otherwise they'd be even easier to exploit.
No, it doesn't make any ****ing sense to trade 5 diamonds for an emerald and then buy diamond armor for 7 emeralds. But if you had diamonds and didn't need or plan to use them, maybe you WOULD prefer that emerald.
Personally I think buying anything from the villagers is a **** deal, and should only be done in desperation. I would just sell things to them for emeralds and then use the emerald blocks to decorate my base.
I've been playing Minecraft on and off for over a year. Like you, I put it off until 1.3. Currently I'm playing the pre-release.
I'm gonna build a series of epic structures and have them linked up through a sub-space teleportation hub in the Nether. And I'll probably build some secret ruins and hide treasure in them too.
All the while I'll document everything in books and put them in a library somewhere.
To keep the game difficult, I've limited myself to one piece of non-leather armor and I'll play on Hard mode constantly. In order to avoid a variety of available resources, I'm playing in the Large Biome worldtype.
I don't foresee myself getting bored of this for a long time.
Anyway, elaborate on what the spells would do or I'll just dismiss this as a worthless idea. I'd much rather have development focused on adding more redstone/potions/enchanting content to the game. Spells would just be another half-baked system that would linger around for 4 months before anyone got around to improving it.
I'm sorry, but I must challenge your authority as greatest minecraft ever. I placed a sand block. On HARDCORE. Impressive, isn't it? Where would one get such a rare block without being blown up, eaten, or shot and killed permanently? I had to wander through caves, dodging fireballs and arrows, punching zombies, and running from creepers to find the block. When I finally did, I jumped for joy and ran back out of the cave to place it on the beach. Nobody has ever done something so impressive.
What? You say you need proof?
Is that a surface sand vein over there? Holy **** dude that's the best world ever. What's the seed?

I didn't even find a blacksmith. I was trying to trade with villagers and get some leather armor when a slime snuck up on my dumb ass and killed me.

But I think there's something wrong with the score system in 1.3.
I'm still number 2 on the leaderboards. Silver medal for me.
