I just guessed since we are normally on at the same time. Might be related to the fact that I sleep till at least 11 AM, but still. And no, I live one hour further, Central Eastern Time, (+01:00)

Well, that would make more sense in why we're usually on simultaneously.

The waitress was taking another table's orders when Hui called her over, so she nodded in the girl's direction to signify she acknowledged her and would only be a few more moments.

Kui chuckled at what Hui had said a few seconds earlier, figuring the conversation wasn't yet dead.

"Actually," she began, "I wasn't going to ask that at all. I'm Japanese, so I understand the only names Chinese people can pronounce are Chinese names," she took another sip of tea, "truthfully, I was just wondering what part of Europe you're from."

Just then, Cheng hurriedly brought Kui's food. Kui didn't want to be a burden, but she had to ask for another pot of tea as hers was now empty.

With a nod, Cheng turned to Hui and asked what she'd be ordering. The noisy restaurant was becoming quieter at the speed it was becoming emptier. It was already getting late, and Kui was beginning to feel fatigued. But there was something about Hui that made Kui want to know more about her. There was something about the girl's personality that Kui couldn't quite figure out, and she wanted to stay and talk to the girl. Maybe it would be interesting.

Writing a reply now, it should be up within 20 minutes.

By the way, what time zone do you live in? I'm guessing British time, but I want to know :3

Actually, you're wrong. I live in U.S. Eastern time. But I take it you're in British time?

sorry. was looking for the usual "put *word/phrase* in the other section"

Yeah, I decided this would be a nice change, especially since it would be difficult to spot in other people's apps. Well, you've been accepted. I'll add your character to the OP.

Just when Kui thought the first waiter had disappeared and wasn't returning, he brought a younger woman to sit in the seat across from her that the couple had abandoned not too long before. Though the man told them to converse, Kui wasn't sure whether or not she wanted to obey. The restaurant remained crowded, but it was gradually dying down, and there wasn't any other way to pass the time that came to mind except for talking. So Kui decided to start simple and introduce herself.

"I'm Long Kui," she finished the tea in her cup immediately afterwards, "and you probably need a menu." Kui handed the red-head the menu that the waiters forgot to collect. Certainly, it was understandable that the service would be below average on a busy day like this, but it didn't make it excusable.

The girl didn't look Chinese at all. She didn't even seem Asian. Kui couldn't help but be curious about why a foreigner was here in China, but she didn't ask yet. She had to wait until the woman introduced herself first.

Kui felt a bit disappointed that there was only one cup on the table because she'd offer the stranger tea otherwise. In the same motion that she began pouring another cup of tea, Kui stole a glance at the waitress to see if her food was on its way.

Kui wasn't quite sure why the waiter switched places with another waitress, but she didn't think much of it. Part of her was relieved she wouldn't make a fool of herself by failing to flirt. The waitress seemed friendly, though, so Kui felt a bit more comfortable talking to her.

"I'd like some tea and the fish special, please," she asked tentatively. It appeared that the couple across from Kui was almost done eating. Actually, this time of night was usually the time most people were close to leaving and not many new people arrived. It could be assumed the restaurant would prepare to close not long after Kui would depart.

Kui couldn't imagine working at a place that got so crowded so quickly. The dock was pleasant because there was usually time between each ship's arrival. Kui didn't need to work, of course, but she needed something to keep her occupied for the sake of her sanity. Translating was ideal because, not only did it help Kui to remember her native language, but it wasn't a very demanding job. There was plenty of time to relax, and the work wasn't very difficult. The money didn't really matter to her.

Kui's mind was wandering somewhere else, though. She couldn't stop thinking about the darkness. Was she really ready to leave this life behind? Surely, there wasn't much for Kui to say goodbye to, but she didn't like change. She didn't want to change her entire lifestyle, and she didn't want to forever be on the move. Survival was important, but Kui didn't even know if she'd be able to settle somewhere again.

IK this is late. if i get accepted can someone give me some sort of heading?

[
b]Name:Ruin
Age: 23
Gender: female
Zodiac: serpent (one off the one i wanted... i hate parents.)
Zodiac traits/ powers: almost silent movement, poison glands in canine teeth that create a poison of varying potency, although higher potencies consume more energy and food to make. can often go weeks without eating after a large meal.
Personality: After discovering powers at a young age, likes to live in a similar way to a serpent. says very little, and listens, but when she does say something, it is usually valuable and well thought out. battle strategies are similar. (this is assuming that there will be some sort of fighting.) She tends not to put too much trust in people, always wary and on guard.
Biography: Ruin's parents both died soon after she was born, to mysterious circumstances involving a fast acting poison no doctor or forensic had seen before, or would see again for almost 7 years. After this, no living relative would take her in, as they were busy feeding their own children, so she was sent to an orphanage, where she stayed for around 8 years. During these years was when she got the name "Ruin". She could not yet say her own name, but she always had a habit of appearing without warning and disrupting current activity. During one such occasion, she finished off a breaking up couple, causing the man to go into a deep depression, hence the name. At the age of 11, she was adopted by a strange couple, a tall and mysterious gentleman with a British accent, and a similarly tall, but somewhat less mysterious Russian woman. It turned out that they were quite well off. The driveway alone was as big as the estate the orphanage had been on, and the central hall was easily 2 or 3 times the size of the orphanage. She lived a happy 11 years with them in England, attending private schools and top colleges, and eventually graduating from Cambridge University with the highest possible grade in both Chemistry and Biology. She got full funding from the adoptive parents to go on to study a course of Biochemistry, and even enjoy a Law conversion course and a geology course in the mean time. On her 23rd birthday, the adoptive parents decided to take her to Shanghai. However, this trip went dastardly wrong, when the group got separated. Some strange occurrence forced the parents to return to England, and Ruin to fend for herself.
Appearance: Ruin has quite pale skin, jet black hair and piercing green eyes. Her clothing varies, but it is usually shades of black and green, and almost always accompanied by a green cloak with a black pattern that makes it incredibly easy to hide in the dense undergrowth of Chinese wilderness. She always wears a silver necklace with a single 2 inch wide almost black emerald in a silver brace.
Other: Ruin usually carries quite an amount of money, as well as an obsidian pen knife and several miscellaneous pieces centred around her interest in poisons and venoms. Among these items are items for harvesting poisons, distilling poisons, checking if something contains a poison, and turning a poison into it's natural anti-venom, although this one is rarely used.
Suggestions:

I would appreciate if you wrote the zodiac traits/ powers and personality part in sentence format rather than as a list, and please take another look at the rules.

Also, it seems you may be a bit confused about the time period. I don't believe women would be attending schools for many more years, and I also don't think Cambridge University or any similar colleges would exist yet.

And I'd like to know where your character was born, too.

Hi Creepur!

I'll post later today. Is everybody grouping up on that cafe or does it just seem like it?

Yeah, I think we're pretty much all meeting there.

((Oh, I guess it's been a while since I last rp'd on MCF. Also, I probably should've mentioned earlier, but I added some new rules a while ago. The one regarding NPC's says "The only characters everyone can control are NPCs unless specifically stated otherwise."))

"Thanks," Kui skimmed the menu, looking for any food she could tolerate. When it came to food, Kui was very picky. Growing up with a personal chef, it was no surprise that she had very high standards. But out of all the foods she's had in her lifetime, Kui enjoyed the Japanese cuisine most. This restaurant was an ordinary Chinese restaurant, however, so Kui didn't expect to find anything significantly tasty.

Though small, the menu was pretty organized, making it easier for Kui to find what she was looking for. After taking a few moments to decide, she called over the waiter.

((Why wouldn't you be allowed to control NPC's? That is what they're there for...)

Kui chuckled. She wasn't very interested in the guy. Truthfully, Kui wasn't looking for a relationship. She didn't really need one.

"Not quite," she answered coolly, "this is a restaurant, isn't it?" Kui supposed she had the time to be flirting with the boy, but at the same time, she had more important things keeping her agitated. In front of her, a couple was seated. They seemed irritated, but Kui wasn't sure why.

It was at that moment, for some reason, that Kui realized something. There was no way she could escape the darkness herself. If she was going to survive it, she'd need to recruit some people. But she didn't exactly have any friends to ask.

The thought made her sigh.

After waiting a few minutes, a young waiter greeted Kui with a hint of flirtatiousness. She was pretty much hopeless when it came to flirting, so Kui couldn't suppress a blush.

"Yes please," Kui did need to be seated. In fact, that was the reason she was waiting in the first place. Kui was a bit uncertain as to where an available seat would be, but she figured it was for the waiter to decide. A relieving breeze came from the doorway for a brief moment, but the restaurant remained hot. The day was going by quickly, and Kui couldn't stop thinking about the darkness in Japan. Her head was flooded with questions. Was her uncle okay? Would she be able to escape it?

Was this the end of the world?

((I'm gonna do a minor timeskip since it appears no one will be affected and also because the rp is moving really slowly. I'll try to get Lexi to make her first post soon, too.))

When Kui arrived back in town, the sun was minutes away from making contact with the horizon. It had been a few hours since Kui's last meal, and an emptiness in her stomach informed her it would be best to have dinner soon. After returning home briefly, she set out with a few flyers that said something along the lines of:

"The monks advise an immediate evacuation due to a rapidly growing darkness in the East. Those who decide to ignore this warning are in great danger."

It was concise, but sufficient. People should be able to get the point while, at the same time, avoid panicking. Kui pinned the flyers throughout town until she ran out, and then she entered the nearest restaurant. While the day was nearing evening, the air was getting cooler, but the restaurant must have been at least three degrees warmer than the outside air. The crowding in the restaurant wasn't helping either. This time of year, all the buildings were hot. The only way to cool oneself off was with a fan, and Kui had left hers at home due to the sky getting darker and the temperature gradually declining.

It didn't even appear there were any available tables. Most people didn't really eat out unless it was for dinner, so restaurants normally were very crowded during the night. Also, due to the small number of restaurants in the area, there was hardly any choice of which one to go to.

Restaurants like these generally seated you with strangers when there were no longer any available tables. Kui didn't mind too much. In fact, she expected it to be like this because of the time. All she could really do now was wait to be seated.

((This is the restaurant Kichirou works at. Because I feel like interacting with someone would help progress the story.))
