I think I've finally developed a style I like. I redesigned Jake again.

I got my new Laptop! It's a convertable laptop/tablet hybrid with waicom pen tech in the touch screen! It's so much easier to work with than that crappy bamboo tablet I had for my desktop.

This is my first real test on it. Going to try drawing Jake tomorrow.

This is a problem I have too. I only have three watchers that seem to care about anything I do, the rest are just there for the offhand character in underwear or baby I draw, which they swarm because it's fetish fuel for them. There's just no reason to put effort into anything when an MS Paint blobcat or fillbucketed sparkledog or baby dog lazily sketched onto notebook paper photographed with a potato cell phone camera gets more views, positive feedback and favorites than something we work for hours on.

Simply put, most furries do NOT care about art that isn't relevant to their fetish or from someone that isn't already famous.

Oh god yes, that accurately describes how I feel about the whole situation. Wanna know what my most favorited piece of artwork is on FA? This THING that's almost 2 years old and no where near my best work. The only reason it got so many likes is that a prominant artist in the babyfur community favorited it first (He also started following me for some reason even though it's the only piece of babyfur I've ever drawn). I guess I should be thankful for that favorite, but I don't want to draw just for the satisfaction of one niche. I want to draw for everyone's entertainment.

Anyway, this is what I put on my FA and Tumblr:
I’m going to be taking another break from drawing until I can get motivation and some practice in. When you've worked for hours on a piece and only got 6 views on it, something is seriously ing wrong. I’m going to re-evaluate my style and techniques and return with something amazing… hopefully. Maybe I need to find a niche and grow from there, or maybe the style that I'm trying to evolve into isn't as likable as my previous.

In the mean time, I will still be posting a lot of photography to my deviantart and tumblr:
    http://classikgameguy.deviantart.com/
    http://tanukisuitart.tumblr.com/

I'll also probably be starting my youtube channel:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/tanukisuithero

I have a question for you guys: When did you start following me and why do you? Do you enjoy my artwork? Do you think a previous style was better? How should I improve my artwork? What tools do you recommend?

This downtime will probably be over sometime after I start school in a month. Thanks for the support you've given me for the last 2 years. You guys are awesome!

    Expect something!

tl;dr: I'm going to take a short break for a while to focus on school and develop a new style for myself. Maybe something more digital and abstract. That sounds nice. I'll still be uploading photos and stuff to my DA, because I actually am enjoying that hobby right now :P

Hey look something I've actually bothered to finish.

I've gotten to the point where I have no motivation or cause to draw anymore. I have several drawings that I have just straight up abandoned because they weren't turning out like I had hoped. I'm getting really frustrated at my art because I will work on a piece for a couple of hours and only end up with 6 views.

I'm going to make a journal on FA later on asking people why they follow me and what they want to see from me. I feel like what I have been drawing is not what they want to see or I just plain suck.

So I've been focused more on this budding little photography hobby of mine rather than drawing, but I have doodled a bit.

Here's a WIP (I know the head's a bit big, I'll correct it later on):

Would you mind if I used this as a template for practising with?

What do you mean? Practice by tracing it? That's OK as long as you give me credit. CC share alike :3

Pretty happy with this. Needed a good background piece for my art tumblr, and this is what it's going to be. The entire theme will be grayscale.

    Question.
Can you actually do art on DA or do you some software, download, etc.?

    Also, nice work Galactic ;D

    I use PaintToolSAI and Photoshop.

I have a Bamboo Graphics Tablet though, which is the reason I use SAI.

Kind of an aside... is Tumblr a viable alternative to DeviantArt when it comes to sharing art? I am increasingly frustrated and disgusted with DA, the community in part but far more with the site itself and how it is run. I also considered FurAffinity, but I'm not sure that I would really fit in there (since I'm not that "into" furry stuff as a whole and the site itself seems just as poorly run/maintained as DA or worse). Would FA or Tumblr be worth looking into more?

DeviantArt is an Art hosting website. Tumblr is more of a social network. Tumblr is a great way to get your stuff seen (as long as you've tagged it proper), but DeviantArt will host your original files unaltered.

It's more of a comparison between a Porfolio and a Showcase. The art in your portfolio (deviantart) will be at the quality you uploaded it in, unaltered, but has less of a chance to be seen by others. But if you showcase it (tumblr), you can get more exposure, but your files will be converted to their format (which isn't that bad mind you, They'll just shrink your dimensions) so it's not your original copy.

FurAffinity is also a great "network" of sorts, but they BUTCHER your images, converting them to mid-quality JPEGS, and shrinking them down to fit their maximum dimensions (1280x1280) (There is a way around the dimensional limit though, but because of the way page formatting works on FA, it can be annoying to the viewer).

I think that explains it well enough. I love Tumblr. It's an awesome website with awesome people and you will always find people who have common interests. And I love writing custom html pages for my blogs' themes. But I will always upload to all 3 sites anyway.
