Ok, I'm waiting on the host to pull Tekkit and then I'm going to begin restoring everything one plugin at a time to get rid of all the problems we had on the previous server.
But the map is uploaded to the new server, only thing lost was the nether because I didn't feel like retrieving it.
The host reached out to me when my last host failed to provide any sort of service. They offered up their services and so far I am very pleased. The setup was fast and support tickets are answered quickly. I'm hoping to stay with this host for a while!
Don't expect anything from the IP listed above. It's a new map with all new data. I'm downloading all the server files so I can have a local backup that can be uploaded to a future host.
I've received offers from other hosting sites and I'm considering my options. Right now all I have left is to either wait until Avante puts the server back online or ditch it. I'll be calling them on Monday if I don't get a response this weekend and if that doesn't work I'll have to go to my bank and see if I can get the charges revoked on account of fraud.
If Avante doesn't put the server back online then I will consider hosting somewhere else but I don't have a recent backup of the map or anything. Also I'm a bit hesitant to throw more money into a server.
We are offline for the time being with a new server coming shortly

9/10 people I see are on a "tight budget" 160 bucks for that little space is pretty terrible, not to mention the drives wear out if you use them a lot.
I hear hard drives wear out if you use them a lot too.
Also there's some less than ethical practises going on the in the HDD inventory, manufacturers trying to get OEM's to sign contracts binding them to pay for HDD's at Dec. 2011 prices for several years.
Don't ever judge anything off a Newegg review... everyone says their tech level is 5/5... then they go and give a product 1 star because they don't understand how to work it or because it was damaged during shipping...
If you're a mainstream desktop user stick with a larger HDD. If you want fast boot speeds, access large amounts of small files regularly, use your desktop as a workstation, then an SSD will benefit you.
As for how "tested" SSD's are, they've been around since the 1950's and in their modern form since 1979.
SSD's seem to be moving towards use as a small cache for the HDD, like the current hybrid HDD's. SSD access times, HDD storage space and price.
I have a 1tb hitachi drive. Am i completely ****ed or no? Is there a chance it will last a few years?
Hitachi has come a long way since the "Deathstar" days. Monitor it like any other HDD. Their quality is fine now anyways so it's just luck of the draw as to how fast it dies.
Also on Black vs. Blue. The difference is negligible. Blacks are marketed toward the performance sector or for use as boot drives whereas Blue's are for the mainstream market and storage. Then of course Green's are solely storage drives.

I have a backup of everything. I've got another server started up but it's not ready to be used, it's very early on in the setup.
One thought though, regular Minecraft or Tekkit?

These SSD's have written terabytes and terabytes of data. Well beyond their expected lifespan.

With no relief in sight for 2012, most projected dates point to 2013 at the earliest but possibly lasting through 2014.
