    First: Welcome.
    Second: Ever heard of search?

Yes. Is this an oft requested feature? I checked the Wiki list of suggestions and I didn't see it there.

Minecraft is not, and will never be a first person shooter.

But it's a first person game in which you shoot things. :sad.gif:

FPS != mindless or cookie-cutter, and obviously Minecraft isn't only an FPS.

It is, however, definitely first person.

If you are trying to crouch jump over every obstacle in your way, you might need to know that you can both place and destroy the blocks in your way.

I know how the game works. I'm crouch-jumping, not out of not knowing what to do, but out of habit. When I see a 1x1 area, my initial response isn't to create a larger opening, it's to crouch into it.

Also, crouching as in getting through 1*1 holes is stupid, needless, and completely removes the fun in obstacle courses, lava runs etc.

No it doesn't. Just make it so that you can't climb stairs if you're crouched and there's a block directly above you. If anything, it'd make lava runs more fun, as it would allow for more complexity. Certain areas would require crouching/crouch-jumps, while others would not allow them, and still others would allow either.

Minecraft doesnt run the source engine.

Well, yeah, but it's not exactly something that's exclusive to Source, or incredibly difficult to implement.

Except the enemies don't really use skill and strategy in combat. They run straight at you.

Eh, I was under the impression that you can kill other players in survival mode.

Also, there are AI controlled enemies which shoot arrows, which would be more fun with more health.

    I like this.

To add to it, hitting them with the glass block should capture them. Hitting them with anything else just makes them disappear.

Then the block you used to capture the fish just looks like a normal glass block, but full of water, and with a fishy swimming in it.

And to add to that, fish should be able to travel through adjacent glass blocks just as they'd be able to travel through adjacent blocks of water.

Yes! Maybe when you jump into the water near them they swim away quickly. If piranhas were there than you're the one swimming away quickly.

I don't like the idea of piranhas. Theres no reason to really arbitrarily ad random effects in the game. Do we really need to make random blocks of water deadly?

Health was never a problem for me. Just get some mushrooms and don't charge into danger.

Agreed. I don't find double health that necessary. Just play it safe and stay cautious.

It's not a question of difficulty- It's really impossible to gage difficulty as there aren't any goals other than to gain points, and there is no reference point when it comes to your score. It's simply a question of game design and fun factor.

I'm not saying that there should be more health so that running out of health is less of a problem. Afterall, I suggested doubling health for ALL creatures. I'm saying there should be more health so that combat becomes deeper, and so that 'cheap kills', such as getting rushed from behind by a group of enemies are less common.

None of this makes the game less difficult, simply more fun. While you're less likely to die by being attacked from behind, this is only because catching someone from behind has less impact, and thus, actual skill and strategy within the battle is the actual decider, and catching your opponent off guard only acts as a slight advantage.

It seems that Survival Mode would be a lot more fun if everything (including you) had, at least, say, twice as much health. It seems that generally, in first person games low health = bad and the higher the health the better. This is mostly because with other perspectives it's harder to catch someone from behind. With a first person game it is easy to catch someone from behind, and thus, the person who catches you has a larger advantage the easier it is to kill others. If you have a game where all the characters have more health, you decrease the advantage you get from catching someone, while simultaneously lengthening battles.

Either that, or you should increase the difference in health between different mobs, increase the user's max health when they achieve certain score values, and make the larger health mobs rarer.

Hey, I'm new here, I just discovered Minecraft, and I'm really liking it, and I really appreciate that the author plans to release his source code once sales begin to dwindle.

That said, the one thing that really annoys me, both in creative mode and especially in survival, is the complete lack of a crouch button. I'm so used to going into TF2/CS/HL/Q3/UT/L4D and being able to hit Ctrl to crouch that I constantly find myself trying to crouch walk and crouch jump into low areas.

My solution is to use the Ctrl button as a crouch button. holding this button will cause you to crouch, shrinking you to half your height, and releasing it returns you to normal height. You can walk while crouching, but you move somewhat slower. Normally your character takes up a space that is 1 block wide by 1 block long by 2 blocks high. When you're crouched you only take up a space that is 1 block wide by 1 block long by 1 block high, thus, you are able to fit into smaller areas. You should also be able to jump crouch, which consists of jumping and then quickly holding the crouch button shortly after jumping. This allows you to jump into smaller spaces.

Basically, it should work like crouching works in source engine games like TF2, CS, HL, L4D and Portal.

    Thanks! :smile.gif:

On an unrelated note, I have several suggestions that I want to flood this board with. Because this post already exists, I think I'm going to forgo the introductory section in the others, so if my other posts seem a little blunt, that's why. :tongue.gif:
