They are only worse because of your irrational fear of them. I don't see any other way they could be worse than insects. For the most part spiders are very passive, and won't bite you unless provoked. They eat all kinds of pests, wasps, flies, mosquitoes, etc. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Also, spiders don't fly, unlike some insects. I hate flying pests.
Spiders aren't generally harmful to humans. They are only harmful if you get bitten by a venomous one and don't do anything about it for a month, like the guy in the leg picture. Even then, most spiders are passive. If you give me a choice between a bot fly and a black widow, I'll take the black widow every time.

No, those assholes are not passive, they may be by nature but they have the iq of a grain of sand, and will attack me whether I 'provoked' them or not.
