The main thing in favor of console edition (besides playing with a controller but that's personal preference, can't stand gaming with a keyboard made for typing personally) is the ability to host free servers of up to 8 people at one time (your total limit is only the console's friend limit). But they're kind of like PC Hamachi servers in that they're only online while the host account is online.

It's not out yet, as far as I'm aware...you may have actually downloaded the last update, which was just bug fixes and some skins.

PlayStation usually gets updates a little later. The last update (with horses, donkeys, etc) was only a matter of hours difference, but I think the update before that had a few days of difference. Most likely the XBox will launch just a little sooner for this update, probably a difference of hours again.

So does this mean that MCX360 is now up-to-date with PC? It seems like everything added was in the 1.8 update (The technically current version of MCPC)
Basically. We still lack a few things (which may never be added to console), like Command Blocks and (as far as I can tell from the Change Log) Banners. -

Nope, for now we're in the Age of Naked Slime Machines lol. You can't include "casings" on the machines, because pistons can only push 12 blocks at a time and because you need the machine to be able to move, so it would need to move a casing using multiple pistons in a way which wouldn't interfere with the machine AND which wouldn't have any piston moving more than 12 blocks.
Not sure how that 12 block limit translates to slime blocks, though.
So it might be possible to make a very modest casing for the machine, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

Yeah, I agree. Probably because of Microsoft forcing Mojang to charge for these packs.
As far as I know, console-version skin / texture packs have always been paid.
They're a non-essential part of the game and they give a few for free, so the alternative isn't that they would be free, it's that they probably wouldn't bother to add them at all. Or at least, not as frequently. -

I like the idea of them simply dropping a boat when broken.
However, boats are practically useless on the console edition except as chairs / couches. If you enter one, go sailing for a bit, then exit it, you will exit the vehicle somewhere inbetween where you started and where you finished, usually very far back (and therefore, usually in the middle of the ocean). I think it has to do with boats being server-sided but I'm not sure. Nothing else dismounts that badly / inaccurately.

Today's update also included Acacia wood and Dark Oak wood, and all of their respective doors/fences/etc. So, it looks like it'll be coming!
Would be great to have the actual saplings for those too lol but I'm not complaining, it's great to have new content so soon (compared to previous updates) after the Stained Glass etc update.

Well I stand corrected, that's not that bad then. I still don't care about it at all, will likely never use the mode, and still would rather have Banners / 1.9 features / 1.10 features, but at least it's not a totally blatant cash grab.
1
Right? Couldn't care less about Battle Mode. Would rather have Realms or actual content, ie Banners, 1.9 / 1.10 features.
0
Definitely possible, I was just going by what people had said the features were, I haven't tried it yet.
Still, not being able to make your own seems directly contrary to Minecraft's old spirit.
0
Only comes with one map, you have to pay if you want more, and you can't make your own.
They should've focused on giving us banners and maybe some 1.9 / 1.10 features. Or getting Realms sooner. I couldn't possibly be less interested in this update. Of course I'm sure many people will enjoy it, that's just my personal opinion.

My comment got deleted without any notification of moderation, apparently?
Anyway, this update is best described in two words:

Grab

Thanks for your invaluable contribution, you have added so much to this conversation and I hope you'll grace us with your presence again.
Heavy sarcasm if you couldn't tell. 4j have already stated - and, in fact, demonstrated - that XBox and Playstation Editions are getting Realms. It's just a question of when.
That's not true though. 4j's twitter has literally nothing about Realms even though they have been announced, even if a specific date has not. They're just hyping up the
Cash-GrabBattle Update.0
Does anyone know when Console Edition (either XBox One / 360 or PS4 / PS3) will be getting access to Realms?

Probably the same way Bethesda is doing it for Fallout 4. And Bethesda is just calling them "mods." I don't know the legal details, but yeah, Minecraft isn't the only game bringing mods to console.
0
No, they mean actual mods for consoles. They're calling them "add ons" instead of Mods. Check the front page of MCF, they have some stuff on it.
0
Fallout 4 Mods show that console mods can be done, just not the same way as PC mods.
However, I doubt Minecraft would bother to do that. But saying they will "never be added" makes it sound impossible or like a direct violation of the ToS; it's not, necessarily. Just in the way most people use mods.

I've heard the same thing about the hoppers, I did it for a long time and then stopped, didn't notice any huge difference. Would be good to get a solid confirmation or denial from the developers or someone looking at the source code, to know whether I should bother or not.

Your friend would have to apply on his own, but I'll send you directions on how to join as Creative-Unapproved.
I'll send you Creative-Unapproved directions
Oh I see, I'll accept your request now then.
Sure, add me: Syn1334, and I'll check out your world. To be clear, that's not the account which hosts this server, it's my personal PSN.
Also I would encourage you to build your house as large as you like. There's no limit on size.
Sure, just read "How to Join"

I've been following this issue extensively and there is no solution. It's reduced if you don't autosave, but then there's always the chance you'll lose more than 15 minutes of progress when you DO manually save.

Looks good to me, I'll send you directions on joining as Creative-Approved. And word of warning, I'll probably forget you were Creative-Approved when you first join lol. Most people join as Unapproved so it's what I default to for new members. So just remind me that you're Creative-Approved if I try moving you into a hotel or something
