Interesting. I wonder if they finally thought up a real use for pigs which is why they are now making horses a new mount.
Though I can't think of anything good - and vaguely realistic - for pigs to do in the game. Maybe they'll eat anything you throw on the ground?

I was referring to the popularity aspect. Before, Minecraft was popular but not on the level it is now. I remember when they had around ninety thousand sales. Now it is among the most popular games on the market spreading across all genres. Indie games usually don't get this popular.
"Indie" doesn't mean "Unpopular," and a lot of indie groups would be very sad that you equate them so. "Indie" means "not affiliated with a major studio" and Mojang is definitely that. -

Horses might become more convenient and less expensive on resources than ride-able pigs. Sure, that can be a possibilitity. However, if this is true, the horse would still make the ride-able pig redundant as players will prefer this over ride-able pigs. Like Kyte314 said, why did they bother to implement the ride-able pig when they're planning to implement a better feature that will make it redundant?
I don't work for Mojang so I am leery to speak for them, but have you truly never ever taken an action, saw the result, and then CHANGED YOUR MIND?
Riding pigs is stupid. It always has been a stupid novelty that nobody does once they've tried it once or twice. Maybe, MAYBE on some servers they set up pig races or something but I bet even those stopped being fun after 2 or 3 times.
If you are an exception to this, please post pictures and/or videos of your wonderful pig stalls and roads designed for quick pig travel, and maybe a little snippet of video of people on your server using pigs far more often than minecarts or even walking.
They could fix pigs. They could remove the carrot-on-a-stick and let you control them with the keyboard. I don't know why they didn't. They instead chose to add horses. I'm cool with this and have no problem ignoring pigs as a mount, the way I do now.

Please stop adding things that are already done with mods, and instead get the mod API done. I'm serious, stop all other work. You don't need to do horses. Someone has already done that for you. You don't need to do a redstone update. Someone has already done that for you. Just stop it! The mod API should have been the second thing you got done. First, code the game. Second, add a mod API. And then let the community add tons of stuff easily.
It doesn't work that way. -

If Mojang listened to the majority of the people who play their game it really would get ruined.
While I've found saddles in dungeons, the only time I actually wanted one (when I didn't have a couple lying around) I just went to the local village and bought it.

Apr 4, 20135thHorseman posted a message on Minecraft Surpasses 10 Million Sales, 1.6 Feature Spoiler Alert1.5 was the redstone update. They haven't said (to my knowledge) what 1.6 is going to be. What if it's going to be the animal update? If they're working with the Mo' Creatures guy, then maybe we're going to see a TON of new animals, and horses will just be one of them.Posted in: News
I will never understand the absolute, utter hatred people have towards updates. I paid like $20 or less for this game and I've been playing it for years. That's a fantastic return for my investment. And all you people can do is complain. -

This was posted yesterday (19 March). Does this mean we should be looking for an update still today (20 March)? Or am I reading an edited post? Or did they miss calculate when the update is coming out?
I don't know where Sacheverell got this nugget of information (because he didn't link) but the only thing I could find is this blog post from Jens stating that it would be out on Thursday.
I'm going to go on the word of the guy working on the game, myself -

Yes it actually was meant to come with the 1.5 update if you watched the stream announcing 1.5 and the Mod API at Minecon.
I watched that stream and remember that they had 2 panels, one for the. 5 redstone update, and another for the mod API. I remember also that in each, they were adamant that the API was NOT going to be in 1.5.
Don't feel bad though, nobody in the crowd at Minecon seemed to pay attention to the announcement either. -

I got a question about Jungle tree saplings. When I cut down single stemmed jungle trees i usualy got about 2-3 saplings from ech tree before the update. But now I only get 1 sapling per 2-3 trees. Is it a bug fix or is it a new bug?
Jungle trees have always dropped somewhere around 1 sapling per 40 leaf blocks, which is about half everybody else. I think up until now you've been lucky. -

The only annoying part is all the replies where people say it's so annoying.
Seriously, it's one line in the bug list. Chill out. -

The (original) joke is fine. It's a classic running gag and it's still funny.
Every other post in this thread being about the joke... That's what's getting (has gotten) old. -

I found a bug. I can't place paintings. It disappears, and the next block I destroy or place spits out all the paintings I tried to place. But where can I report this bug to Mojang?

Um, I'm not using a torch, I'm using a lamp. Maybe I read the wiki wrong, but it reads to me like when you open a trapped chest, it emits a redstone signal.....which can power something, like a lamp. So far I've seen very little documentation on this.
You need a repeater after the very first line of redstone wire. The chest only powers the redstone with the very slightest charge. A repeater will turn that small charge into a full 16-strength signal.
Also, I've not gotten the trapped chest to send its signal through a wall. It works fine through the floor though. -

It is very likely an oversight. That is a goal that has been passed down through every version of OceanBlock and Pancake Survival from ... version 2 I think, which came out the same time Enchanting came out. At the time I looked through the list on the wiki, saw several level-4 enchantments, and made the challenge. I never really looked to see if it was reasonable or even possible.
I see no reason to not change it to "at least 2 level-3 enchantments" which is hard enough, really.

Not for a weakness potion.

Probably not a "good" reason, but I assume there's a reason. It works fine for me though I haven't downloaded it fresh in quite some time.

You could always get leather within the map's rules. Cows and all other passive animals will spawn on grass that's 25 or so blocks away from you, albeit slowly. I got a whole farm's worth of animals using that method even before the book recipe changed.

I don't think I've ever seen a librarian with a gold trade, either. I agree that it must not just be rare, but impossible. Makes them even easier to fully perfect.
1
I refer to them as "Pappy" and "Red"
I've actually thought about this, but never did the legwork and research to see what is needed. The perfect librarian is probably the easiest to get done especially if you start with a guy who already has a gold trade. I'm surprised it's just 9 trades. That seems pretty easy though the last few have got to be a chore to get even if you do start with gold. I guess what would make them perfect in Oceanblock is a paper trade, but I'd be happy also with buying a bookshelf as the final trade. They're pretty cheap and at worst you can eventually break them down and sell the books back to him, likely for the exact number of emeralds you paid for the shelves. The perfect butcher wouldn't be too bad either, with any "buy cooked meat" trade last or (my favorite) buying (char)coal. Though with the probability of that one, I can't see expecting it to show up last very often.
I'd assume the book enchant can change, but only if the cost is lower than the last one. It probably generates a random book enchant for a random cost, and then (like with any other trade) sees if there's already a book enchant for more money already there. I'd like to test it though and you need to test to see what happens when the cost is the same, as there's no way to know how they programmed that even by guessing.

I have no moral objections to hacking in a chestful of the things, either.

I will admit I've not played Minecraft much in the past few months. What are name tags? I knew you could rename items, but villagers? And you need an item to do so? And you can't craft that item?
0
I assume you also found the 10 obsidian blocks.
You don't need flint and steel to light the portal. Just get fire burning inside it. Not a block inside it on fire, but a bock next to it, with fire on the face of the block inside it. You have lava and wood, I'll let you figure the rest out.
0
It may seem that way, but those villagers have exactly the trades I want them to have. They're the best possible of each trade, and they are first the easiest way to get emeralds and second the only way to get redstone in the entire map (except other villagers with the exact same trade that may be born later, perhaps).
Unless you let your villages die and had to make more. But that's of course not my fault
0
You don't need flint and steel to start a fire. All you need is fire inside an otherwise empty portal frame. Put flammable stuff in front of and behind your portal and use the lava to set that stuff on fire.
You may have to do it a few times but it'll light eventually.

There are no other islands in the normal world. There is one island in the Nether.

Note that that limit is within a certain range. I don't know what it is off the top of my head but it's a manageable (though annoying) range, and it's a horizontal one (so no going up to the top of the map to get more animals to spawn).
So once you get 4 or 5 pairs of animals, you may want to go 256 blocks away or so and do it again. Yes, it's a major pain to spread grass that far but ... sadly the limits of the engine won't allow for a better alternative.
One thing, try to get a silk touch shovel to make spreading grass far easier.
Also, once you tame a wolf and an ocelot, they *may* not count as a passive animal anymore. But I'm by no means sure of that.
