So I finally got an answer regarding the slime spawning issue on the 4.0 map:

The crazy thing is, I'm POSITIVE I saw LP videos where people had tons of mobs spawning on their island when they left it at night. Maybe I just always saw that on videos of the 3.1 map.

You are right, I never moved the spawn point in 4.0 and have move it in 4.1.

Well due to the public library being my only source of Internet, I am unable to make a video of my playthrough of OB 4.1 but here are some screenshots of my progress...

Achievement get: Oh Christmas Tree! (Spruce Tree farm)
Achievement get: King of the Jungle! (Jungle Tree farm)
Achievement get: More Cow-wood! (Birch Tree farm)
Achievement get: An apple a day... (Oak tree farm)

I love the names! If the book had more room in it, I'd make names like that for all achievements!

I still have quite a bit to do and even though I've spent plenty of time 25 blocks away from all my grass, I've yet to get any animals to spawn...I might make a pasture of sorts beyond my mob farm in hopes of getting some to spawn...

Weird. In my testing, I had TONS of animals spawning. I wonder if they nerfed something. By the time I got my village going, I had cows and sheep, and a single pig waiting for a mate. I wasn't very far away from them either, just a few dozen blocks.

EDIT: and btw...I used a slime finder app to find the slime chunks and I must say that you picked an awesome place to put that starter island...(I won't spoil anything this time around on where the slime chunks are...)

It's not a secret that I know of :) I discussed it before 4.1 came out that I was going to fix the chunk issue due to the fact that biome-spawning was not going very well.

    But you're welcome. :)

Nicely done, Megatrain. I like how - even though you had a perfectly functional cobblestone generator in the Overworld, you still went back to the Nether to test your idea of a generator there.

Congratulations on essentially beating the Overworld part of it. You still have to make a village and whatnot, but now that you have torches you are no longer in incessant danger there. I'd like to tell you you're out of the woods altogether, but I don't want to lie to you :)

ProfessorRook, I'm enjoying your screens. Can't wait to see the house :)

I tested my rose delivery system in my test world and it works great. If a storage minecart rolls over a hopper at a decent speed, it'll drop a single rose into that hopper with no problem. Now, all I need is to have the storage cart sitting under a hopper that delivers roses to it, and then have some way to determine when there are enough roses in the cart to dispense one to every pending dispenser.

EDIT: It took a little fiddling but I got it. I have a cart that will, once full enough to drop one rose in each hopper, will run up and make a loop around the village. If it's not full, it will go in a smaller loop that will drop one rose from the collection hopper into the cart. The only thing now is to make sure we don't accidentally start distributing iron to the cart, though if this works like I think, I'll have so much iron it'll be a valid use.

This is a horrible use of resources, and I'm so glad I thought of it.

You can't make a full size portal... Should've looked at that first. Re-downloading.

Then I misplaced it the second time... I'm not cut out for this.

    Third time...

Restarting is the key to this map. If you don't mess up something so much that you have to restart, you're not trying hard enough :)

Even though I'm not playing as much right now, I can't stop thinking about Minecraft and I think I've solved the reset problem for killing villagers.

Once you set up your golem farm, you will end up with a steady stream of iron AND roses. You could set up some sort of rail line that takes the roses up above the whole contraption and drops them one at a time into dispensers above your villager heads. The dispensers would be aimed down at a wooden pressure plate that would power the killing piston.

You hit a button, which dispenses a rose onto the pressure plate, which lowers that piston for 5 minutes. That's excessive, but now you can walk away and 5 minutes later the trap would be completely reset and ready for the next villager.

Granted, this is far more resources than you'd ever want to spend on something like this, but I think I'll probably try it anyway :) Also, it's a bit mean to kill villagers with the roses that the iron golems (which you're also killing) were trying to give to those same villagers, but hey that's not my problem!

In the other biomes, is the ores? Or are they like "normal" biomes?

I should make you play to find out, but click below if you really want to know.

No. The biomes are pretty much exactly like the rest of the world. They are there simply so you have access to snow and some unique animal spawns.

Other means, such as? The only way to light a portal is by fire, or (supposedly, never seen it happen since portals were introduced) an explosion. Seeing how i have been unable to spread any fire from the single lava, and i am not allowed to let myself be killed (even in a creeper blast), how can i light the portal within the rules of your map?

So as to not spoil others:

Place your portal right next to, and facing, the lava. You can put it on the dirt or embed it into the dirt, both work. From the top, your portal/lava should look like this:
:Black: :Black: :Black: :Black: <-Portal frame
:Orange: :Lava: :Orange: :Orange: <-Dirt floor with lava
Stack planks on the other side (the portal inside is 2 wide and the lava is only 1 wide). Stack them all the way up to the top of the portal (3 or 4, depending on if your portal is in the ground or on top of it)
:Black: :Black: :Black: :Black: <-Portal frame
:Orange: :Lava: :wood: :Orange: <-Dirt floor with lava and planks stacked 3-4 high
Then cover the back side of the portal with wood planks as well. DO NOT PUT ANY PLANKS INSIDE THE PORTAL FRAME.

:Orange: :wood: :wood: :Orange: <-Dirt floor, with planks blocking the back side of the portal.
:Black: :Black: :Black: :Black: <-Portal frame
:Orange: :Lava: :wood: :Orange: <-Dirt floor with lava and planks stacked 3-4 high
After not too long, the lava will light the front stack of planks on fire. Sometimes, the fire will go out and you'll have to replace the planks. Most of the time, though, the fire will try to jump through the portal to the back planks, and the portal will light.

Now, it sucks that your portal has a lava doorstep, but once you get villagers you can trade for a diamond pickaxe and move that portal anywhere you want. By then, you should have plenty of iron to relight it in a normal way. Alternatively, you can move the lava somewhere more convenient at that time.

I stumbled across this map, and decided to try it out. All i can say to anyone else thinking so; don't.

I've been playing this map for 3 hours now. I've spent a good few nights doing nothing but hunting zombies, yet i have not gained ANY progress. The entire start is based off of getting iron, which is a rare drop from zombies with a 0.04% chance to drop if you kill one.

I'm sorry, but a map based around luck is not hard; it's just a grind.

I'm sorry for your hard time, but the map is not designed around luck. You do NOT need iron to light the Nether portal. I gave you the flint as a bonus, in case you got iron before you could get the portal lit via other means.

I still don't really understand the concept of Minecraft Realms, may someone explain it to me?

From the link in the post you should have read, that is directly above yours:

Minecraft Realms is a service designed to let players play on a server together with minimal setup, and will be available to the public later this year.

this is my third retry and i'm determined for it to be my last. this map (along with oceanblock!) is really addicting. i hope we see some more maps of yours in the (near) future :)

I have no concrete plans, though someone mentioned starting in a sea of lava and I've got some ideas along those lines.

Another day, another round of monster bashing to get the precious iron...
I'm curious ... what's the avarage time needed to get the three ingots? Maybe I'll have to check out some nice monster trap designs without water too, since this is driving me crazy...
Right now I have more than two stacks of gunpowder, bones and arrows, 4 ender pearls and a nice skeleton dropped some golden shoes with fire protection 1 on them. But so far, no iron at all :(

Why do you need 3 ingots? In my test, I got my first blaze rod before I got my first iron ingot.

And yes, I had a (very clunky, but serviceable) cobblestone generator :)

Sweet screens! Makes me wish I had enough time to play. Stupid Game of Thrones starting 3 weeks after the update came out.

Can you play the game without Villagers? I got far into it and zombies overan me... And my villagers

It's really really hard without villagers. Iron takes about 1000 times more work to get from zombies than it does from iron golems, and there are tons and tons of trade opportunities you're missing out on (like diamond tools and armor, and redstone which is nowhere else on the map).

You can get some more eggs from the Emergency Cache way up in the air. I suggest you do so. If you don't want to (or already did and lost those) then you're stuck with cheating more in or restarting from scratch. I would personally restart, and knowing what you know now try to protect your villagers from dangers.
