Yes, I love the idea of scattered lore, I've wanted that for ages.
About the enderdragon, a good way of giving reason without adding a tonne of backstory would be for a villager to simply say 'kill the dragon, I'll reward you.' That way there's an incentive without there being a full-blown story.

Mojang: Hey everyone! We modified you're favorite game overnight thanks to this post we found on the minecraft forum!
We are pleased to Introduce: Mine of Duty: Block Ops!

Pretty much this, except wouldn't 'Craft of Duty' make more sense?

How would one go about doing that?

By going to a modder and asking.

    Quote from gypsyblackmagic

Well its intended as a BOSS mob. It doesnt just spawn randomly, only in generated structures.

Look at the other bosses, they're balanced, this isn't. No one wants a super-invincible creeper running around that insta-kills them and everything around them. Not to mention the fact that it'll destroy any chance of temples being fun. You should look at the gold golem thread, that's how you do a temple boss.

Also, why would villages have a boss in them, they're villages?

Slime farms are an exploit and i believe Notch is working in 1.4 to limit the power of mob grinders.
Err... what year are you living in?

Superflat is meant for creative, not survival.
Your point being? Lots of people test mob functions in creative, and this would make it near-impossible. No support.

No, doesn't belong in Vanilla, people would complain that it turns Minecraft into an RPG. Might make an interesting mod, though.

Maybe allow people to make custom quests in-game in creative, using a GUI?
It would be brill for adventure maps.

    Yeah, I'd love custom quests.

posted a message on Industrial minecraft vs. Enchanting
    Quote from Delthyn

If you think about it, Minecraft's "industry" is just magic. Pulling a switch in real life does not activate the electric circuit in and of itself. It requires electricity from a source, and then pulling the switch connects the circuit.
Redstone is powered by kinetic energy, so it's clearly magical. In addition, redstone can be added to potions, making it even more magical. (would you want to drink an electric cable? No. Magic dust? sure!)
Water is highly magical in Minecraft (a self-replicating, static source of liquid? Reeks of magic!), and is the other main component of "industry" besides redstone. It's also magical in nature.

So the whole argument is flawed, because Minecraft is magical, not industrial. It's "technology" is just disguised magic.

@23232323: Excellent statements, sir. Why is it that you can have the +4 flaming demon-bane sword, but you can't have the +4 flaming demon-bane chainsaw? It never makes sense.

Why thank you, and yes, this pretty much sums up why rigidly separating magic and industry doesn't make sense.

I like the idea, but I'd rather the model were a darker colour. Maybe black or dark green? That would just make it look a bit less copy-and-paste, otherwise; pretty good.

Apart from the wither, I like it. However, I think the enderdragon should just use the current pattern until you've destroyed all the crystals, then it should attack en masse.

    Quote from Black_Drath

It does not attack undead mobs. Skeletons, wither skeletons, zombies, zombie pigmen and other withers will not be targeted.
The reason the Wither attacks these mobs is because it seems to get a small health boost whenever it kills something.

That's what the OP said, it attacks anything alive.

posted a message on Rifles in Minecraft
    Quote from Delthyn

There was a thread similar to this a while back, discussing the question of: Is Minecraft technological or magical?
Both. That's not an opinion, it's a hard fact.

    Undead (skeletons/zombies) are magical.
That's highly subjective, there've been plenty of scientific explanations for undeath.
Our mobs are not victims of some kind of Necromorph mutation or whatnot,
    ...you sure about that?
and skeletons were not created by a "virus."
They could've been. There's no explanation for anything in Minecraft.
So from a mob perspective, our game is magical.
    Again, that's highly subjective.
Likewise, redstone is a magic powder, because IRL, kinetic force (pulling a lever) would not activate an electric circuit.
Again, highly subjective. Redstone could be advanced technology that humans (Steve) don't understand, they just know they work.
In addition, potion-making and the enchanting of tools is magical.
WHAT! Potions aren't magic, 90% of them can be made in real life. I don't have any argument for enchantments, they're definitely magic.
(Did Luke Skywalker run around with a +2 flaming lightsaber of smiting?)
Star Wars is a fantasy, not a sci-fi just so you know.
We are essentially cave-men, who become primitive dark age peasants, who can eventually discover magical ways to gain tech-like advantages, that are magical in nature.
Early guns were actually invented in Medieval times, so that's not an argument.

Please note: I'm not saying you're wrong, but most of your arguments are. Fusurugi, has also pretty well summed up my stand-point.

posted a message on Industrial minecraft vs. Enchanting
    Quote from toastytoes108

You can enchant industrial things, they're just less powerful when you enchant them because it would keep it balanced. Un-enchanted industrial things are better than un-enchanted magical things, but when you enchant magical things they become really good. If you could enchant industrial things as much as you could magical things then it would be un-balanced because industrial things would be twice as good (having both the good parts of industrial and magical).

You've completely missed the point. My question is: why are magic and industry two different 'paths'? It just doesn't make sense to so rigidly seperate them like people are suggesting, when any logical person would tell you to use them in tandem.
Also, your statement about enchantments makes no sense, as an unenchanted magical item is an industrial item
