This is exactly what i need. As a console gamer ive always used a controller and the switch to pc i didn't like. So now i can finally use a controller for minecraft. I am going to order my controller today and try this out when it gets here.
As of now, having only tried about 10 mods, i would pick more tnt as my favorite. Its jut so useful when building your house and mining. there's another mod tht i want but i cant get it to work. it just crashes the game but i will get it eventually. My brothers favorite is pixelmon. He plays that all the time.
My post may have been misleading, no, you dont need optifine. Its not related to pixelmon at all. I just recommend it since it can improve the fps and look of the game. But one you have pixelmon downloaded you just put it in your mods folder. That is after you install forge.
I'm not sure how that mod may be set up but in my experiences, i have had to extract the contents of the folder in order t get it to work. check the mod thread to see if that's the case. But other times i just put the entire .zip in the mods folder and it worked fine.
I installed pixelmon for my brother and also set him up with optifine (must have) and he has no lag. i was able to make it lag with 50 blocks of tnt but thats about it. during normal game play its 100% lag free. His laptop specs are as follows, AMD A6 (quad core), built in graphics, 4gb memory and i dont have the video setting low either so as long s you have a half decent computer you'll be fine. Regarding the virus thing, as long as you follow the links on here it will take you to the official pixelmon website and i scan all my files and it is virus free. its a very large and well known mod so i wouldn't worry.EDIT: I juat saw the part about "will it be obvious that its installed", if they know what they are looking for they will know. But they would need to go into the .minecraft folder to see. Unless they are playing minecraft ten no, it wont be obvious that its on the computer. If they are playing minecraft, then all they need to do is open it and they will see the mods installed and if they open a world it will come up asking them to select a pokemon. So in that case yes it will be very obvious.
I will definitely look into that. I used forge for these but as I understand not all mods are forge compatible. Which may be why it crashes it. Thanks for the tip. I will go find some info on it now.
Okay, i was able to install some mods. I figured out that there are basically no mods for 1.7.4. So i Downgraded to 1.6.4 and was able to install pixelmon and more tnt. I am doing optifne now and also plan to try extreme weather mod. The issue i m still running into is that some mods is that it crashes mineraft before it will even load up.
I watched some more videos last night and noticed that they say 1.7.2 or 1.7.4 in the title but are recorded using 1.6.4. So maybe you can't mod 1.7.4 yet?
Hello, i am a new member here but have been lurking around for a little while. Myself as well as my brother (i am doing it for him) are trying to install mods. I've watched a bunch of videos and tried multiple different ways of loading the mods but i cant get any of them to work. The mods i am wanting are the common ones such as optifine, extreme weather mod, and mo creatures mod. my brother really only wants one mod which is pixelmon.
I have tried using magic launcher and doing them manually but neither method had success. both ways seemed like the worked (magic launcher said all were "ok" and there were no errors. And when i did them manually i followed the video exactly. have read that mods for 1.7.4 are slim pickings but i also read that some from earlier versions will work. But i also don't see how that's possible.
I hope i provided enough information for my question to be answered. I am running windows 7 and my brother windows 8 if that matters. Thank you for any help or points in the right direction.
