Question: Did you build you're portal near your original spawn point in the overworld?
If so, then it is highly likely your portal is within 125 blocks of 0,0 in the nether.
If not, then you're pretty screwed. Wander around until you get lucky or die.
Good idea this is.
Seems like you made a few mistakes here. The biggest one is not having some wood with you when you left your house. Second, when you're in the Nether, always, ALWAYS mark your path with something. Cobblestone works well since it contrasts with netherrack.
Like a few others have said, write down your current coordinates. I would say make a chest and store your stuff but since you're out of wood, that won't work.
Do you think you're very far from the portal? If you kill yourself in the Nether, you'll respawn in the overworld. (duh) This will cause all the chunks in the Nether to unload. While unloaded your items won't despawn. So, you can take your time to prepare yourself for a return trip to the Nether. Once you're ready to go, hop through the portal and run towards the coordinates where you died. You'll have 5 minutes from the time you enter the portal until your items despawn. This is probably what I would do if I thought I was within a 5 minute run of the portal. If not, you're probably toast. Best of luck to you.
If they do fix the open/closed glitch, I say they add a feature where you can open the door fast to bash the zombies and make them get knocked back. Run into a horde of zombies while you're adventuring, place down a door and open it when they get close. WHAMMY
Reminds me of people who place it while their drowning to avoid dying. Doors, the wave of the future..
A little off topic but I never thought about using doors to keep from drowning. I always have torches on my hotbar so I usually place on on a block next to my head to refill my breath meter.
I honestly do not see any issues with the zombies now I am by my no means a MC fanboy they break down doors they add something to the game making it more challenging on hard and even on normal down trying to escape = damage. It ADDs something to the game period it doesn't take away anything it adds.
Zombies breaking doors just adds tedium. Instead of getting home at night and going to unload all my items into my storage room, I'll have to put the door back on every time. Yeah, that really adds to the game. In my opinion it would be better if the zombie was simply able to open the door. That way, we wouldn't have to replace it all the time. Shoot, might as well just put a few dirt blocks in front of the door before I leave instead of making a legit door.
Use metal doors if you want secure doors a wood door is 6 blocks of wood I hope you can punch 2 trunks and get that back if oyu happen to loose said door. Mobs do not stay around forever they despawn if your not in the chunk if by the rare chance they do break through a door when your not looking at you you can easily replace it with 6 planks of wood.
I don't mind having iron doors be the most secure way to keep monsters out. Sure, it's easy to replace the wood door if it only takes 6 planks of wood. However, it is tedious. I don't mind making the game harder in some way, but having to craft a new front door every time a zombie breaks one does not make it harder. It just makes things tedious.
As stated this is turning into more of a endermen fiasco again. Of course I didn't have issues with endermen picking up blocks various people did I don't know why I am a picky MC builder I want things to look like they are built to with structure/support do not support flaoty houses and the like but a tree every now and then that was due to me being in that chunk having a missing wood didn't bother me.
Maybe you didn't play with Endermen that much then. In my first 1.8 world at least half of the trees near my base had gaps in the tree trunks. That doesn't make things harder at all, that's just ugly. Rolling along my minecart rail and then *clunk* the minecart stops moving. Enderman moved the cobblestone under the rail and the rail popped off and despawned. Hard? No, but inefficient. Now I need to either get a rail out of my chest back home, or craft one on the spot.
All of these zombie threads and the whine it has in it and MC forums has had for a quite a long time is to be expected people hate change even if they themselves do not have any argument other then "OMG ITS NEW AND I DIDN"T SUGGEST GET RID OF IT" so please shut the hell up there is absolutely no issues with zombies breaking down doors as they do now. They don't see you? O well if you were searching for food would you look in a house with a door ya and if your close (pretty much in the chunk of they will just despawn) you can hear them taking down the door unless you have sound off which is your choice and confront the zombies and stopping them before they ambush you.
"there is absolutely no issues with zombies breaking down doors as they do now" This is an opinion, not a fact. Get over yourself and admit that other people may have an opinion that differs from yours.
TL;DR
I would prefer that zombies do not break wooden doors. I think it would be better if they were only able to open them.
I am not against making Minecraft harder. I am against making it more tedious.
Atleast you got fortune III, some people dont even get that, and most people are trying for it.
No kidding. I spent 46 levels on a diamond pick after killing the Ender Dragon a few nights ago. I got efficiency IV. No double enchant. No fortune. No unbreaking. :dry.gif: Oh well, I guess I'm set if I need obsidian in the near future.
See, this is exactly what I need. Feedback.
Thanks, up until now there wasn't anything.
You could place one extra obsidian block on top at the front so that the player can't actually fit in where the chest is. If done right, the player could still reach the gold block and break it but would be too far from the chest to break the chest and get the contents.
The player would stand in the gap on the left and would be able to reach both the chest and the gold block. But, if the player broke the chest, the contents would be too far to reach.
This will never happen. It literally makes all wooden doors invalid. Besides, even if this was implemented, people would just stack blocks in their doorways. This doesn't make anything more challenging, it's just an annoyance.
This. I like that I can put a door on my house or any other building I happen to construct that keeps mobs out and lets me in without a hassle.
You know, the people that actually want mobs to be able to open doors could just leave their wooden ones open every night. Just imagine that you're only allowed to shut iron doors. :tongue.gif:
I also think it would be silly to make mobs that break through blocks, it would make everyone a nomad. :/
This brings to mind the huge flame war that started when Endermen were introduced and starting moving blocks around. *shivers*
As long as we're on the subject of iron vs wood doors, I think it would be nice if there was a bigger difference between the doors. Right now iron and wood doors respond exactly the same way to redstone so why don't we just use wood doors all the time? The main reason I use iron instead of wood is because of the way it looks.
In my opinion, iron doors would be much more useful if they were blast resistant. It disappoints me that a ghast can blow an iron door off its hinges. I'd like to put some doors on my Nether fortress but since I just get tired of putting them back up every time a ghast fireball follows me in the door, I just quit and made some other sort of entrance.
The biggest diamond vein (or double vein I guess) that I ever found had 9 diamonds. Found it this morning around 2am actually. Up until now, I've seen 2 veins that had 8.
I started doing this as well. I had to run through 8 villages before I finally found some saplings. There were also two diamonds in the chest with the saplings. Go figure.
yes, it took me days and days to get all my arrows. I have problems killing skeletons (they kill me first), so i tend to end up playing in peaceful mode.
And there are hardly any chickens in my world.
So it takes me ages to get arrows.
I went right back to the place I fell off the cliff, and I looked everywhere for all my lost things. I found everything, except the arrows. Every single one is missing.
And I haven't found a single chicken since to get a feather from to make a new arrow.
I don't like going into caves in Normal mode without arrows (as I get killed), but if I only ever play in peaceful mode, I'm never going to kill a skeleton and get more arrows.....hmmmmmmm......dilemma........
Your problem here seems to be that you don't have a good way of getting feathers with which to make your own arrows. I would advise making a chicken farm. Next time you find a chicken, run up to it while holding a piece of wheat. With the wheat in your hand, it will follow you wherever you go. Lead it and at least one other chicken back to your base. There, breed them by feeding each a piece of wheat. Presto! You have the beginning of a chicken farm. Wait until you get around 8 or so, then you can start killing them for their feathers.
Since the compass won't point to the last bed you slept in and there's no way to navigate using stars or something, I don't consider it cheating. Plus, it's in the vanilla game.
Regarding navigation, it would be cool if Mojang could take a look at the maps again. As is, I don't find them very useful. They would be better in my opinion if they were bigger and had a zoom in-out feature.

You beat me to it.
If you get a pick with silk touch to get a grass block, you could terra-form the Nether or The End with all your dirt.

I will have to try this. I've got a couple stacks of brown wool and no ideas for how to use it.
^This^
Nether bricks and stone bricks seem to go well together.

How would you test it? In creative mode with the spawn eggs thing?
