posted a message on i need to find this old minecraft fiction series or i will actually go insane

I don’t know the series, but something makes me guess it was a maze apocalypse? Idk...

Also, is this an animation, an acting “movie” in game, or a comic? If it’s a comic I think the 2b2t comics are good but sometimes a bit dark.

posted a message on Recomendations for Mods and Plugins

I know there’s some great adventure mods out there, but I’m not sure which ones support 1.3.

    - DivineRPG

    - Aether Mod

    - Aether II

    - Advent of Ascension

    - Twilight Forest

    - Tropicraft

They also pair well with a backpack mod.

posted a message on Looking for a plugin

I know it isn't chests, but it's very close. You could use Essentials's Buy and Trade signs, and just don't give out money. [Buy] signs can sell items for items, and [Trade] signs can be created by players, to sell items they've obtained for other items.

posted a message on "Minecraft is Dying" posts NEED TO STOP.

Yes there is a thread called "Is Minecraft Dying...?" and people are being redirected there, since it's being repeated a lot.

    Quote from EnderTheLord»

    "Mojang is greedy"

Mojang has been working harder than ever to bring us good updates. 1.13 was great, and now they are working on the (controversial) 1.14 update. Sure 1.9 wasn't what a lot of people wanted, but a lot of people liked 1.9.

Threads shouldn't be closed just because they criticize the game. Minecraft Forums is a forum for talking about Minecraft; people should be able to say their opinions about the game. Saying "Mojang is greedy", discussing how you feel the game is becoming worse in some way, or talking about how you dislike an update doesn't have to do with whether or not the number of people playing the game is dropping, and shouldn't be lumped into the same thread dedicated to whether or not the game is dying or not.

While a few threads recently were just anger at Mojang and maybe not constructive (those threads got locked), it isn't going too far to dislike an update, some changes, or aspects of how multiplayer currently is.

    Edit:

    Thread locked by moderator.

Minecraft is not dying. It has gained 50 million sales in the past few years (excluding the very recent 2019). It has about 150 milion sales across all platforms. Sure, multiplayer is not what it used to be. Minecraft's YouTube community has switched to Fortnite, but miraculously, it's not dead.

There is already a thread talking about if Minecraft is Dying. Please post your thoughts and complaints here: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/discussion/2794141-is-minecraft-dying

posted a message on What kind of server do people want? + ideas for a new server type

It seems like you have good ideas. I think it's easy to make servers not-great today, by adding too many plugins and features that don't make the server better visually or gameplay wise- and just add clutter, and sometimes a reliance on the server for items. I often see servers with too many crates, rewards, kits, NPCs, GUIs, holograms and a sidebar on your screen 24/7 that tells you your hunger (which you can see already), health, money, and ping. I might make a guide for making better/not-bad servers with those sort of topics covered.

The first gamemode idea used to be more popular, and was called Freebuild, as you could get items from [Free] signs but were still in survival. I think it can be pretty fun with the right players.

One other gamemode idea is superflat survival- people would have to gather resources and saplings from villages, and then build up from the superflat. I played it once on a server, and it was pretty fun.

I also highly recommend getting the CoreProtect plugin, which helps you find who griefed and also roll it back (including WorldEdit griefing).

posted a message on So what do you guys think about the new 1.14 textures?

Well, since there is no way of getting the latest and greatest textures into 1.12.2, then…I don't really think anything. :-D

I just laugh how everyone is against it. Like…they change it, and you guys are grabbing your pitchforks. :-D Change, that's what you don't like. You got used to something and you don't want the change. It has nothing to do with the texture pack itself.

I would say that's a very watered down way to think about people who don't like 1.13, 1.14 or the 1.14 textures... and I wish more people would try and relate or atleast discuss further, rather than say "they don't like change" and "it's just nostalgia". Those aren't the only reasons people have, but they aren't invalid either. It's not about change simply occurring; I liked all of the updates before 1.7. It's about the game losing qualities it currently has, and if the change really makes the game better or worse (and not just on a "new stuff" or utility level- also the game's feel as a whole, and the impact on how people play the game).

As for the textures, I like some aspects and dislike others, but it really feels like it's part of a different game than Minecraft. Though my biggest concern is how it will impact the community- I had said a bit about that in my post above. It's the fact that the textures might be official that makes it controversial. If it becomes official, it will appear on the launcher; it will be the new look of Minecon Earth; all the merchandise for the game will change, and the T-shirt you bought for the game out of passion will now have an "outdated" look. That could split the culture of the game...

It's basically guranteed that some people will dislike the textures. If only 20% dislike it, that's still millions of players upset and posting adventure maps and YouTube videos in the old style (potentially upsetting you or other 1.14 players, too).

I could go on further, but I think my point is made.

posted a message on Minecraft is now running at 1 FPS (1.13.2)

My computer is new and runs at 60 FPS, even with high render distance in 1.12. 1.13 drops it to ~30-40 fps... there is definitely significant performance problems. I've also seen and heard that worlds and chunks take much longer to load.

posted a message on Which is the newest Minecraft Version which allows for seeds with big overhangs and stuff?

I miss this as well... the terrain used to be iconic to the game.

When you walked around, you would often find distinguished terrain... interesting hills, overhangs, and somewhat rarely flying islands. Since 1.7 there has been more biomes, but the terrain has almost looked smoothed out; less distinguished. There may even be less flat areas than before 1.7.

I would really like a pre-1.7 terrain mod or plugin. I know there's a preset called Neo-Beta on a thread, but to me it doesn't look fully like pre-1.7 terrain did (also just tried it out, oceans become green hilly areas... and thin strips of "beaches" go up and down hills).

Edit: You might be talking about beta 1.7.3. I started in Beta 1.8, which changed the terrain. There were still commonly floating islands and cliff overhangs, but it didn't quite look like the Gargamel and Glacier seeds. I miss the aspects of Beta 1.8 terrain, which existed all the way up to Minecraft 1.6.

The first link in your post is broken, I'm not sure which thread you're referring to. Please provide an updated link to the thread and I will review it and get back to you with some information on the decision that was made -- and whether or not it was correct, and if so, why. Thank you :)

Looking back now, this is making a bit more sense for the threads that were closed. The link is here: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/discussion/2936068-what-is-the-future-of-this-game. My own thread titled "1.13 Poll" was also closed.

At the time I was feeling that threads that had a critique on the recent updates or the game as a whole were being locked. I'm guessing this was actually because those threads- while having real opinions- were also intermingled with general questions like "What do you think about 1.13?" or "What's the future of this game?".

Anyways, I'm hoping two things might be done:
    1. A thread is created for discussion about where the game is headed overall; not just whether or not it is "dying". That way threads like BlueCreeper's- talking about changes in the game- are at least are sent to the most relevant place if they're too general.
    2. Threads about more specific things than an update as a whole are sent to Recent Updates & Snapshots if need be, rather than the general 1.13 thread. Perhaps threads that talk about an update too generally can be asked to be edited and/or reposted to be more specific, so that it doesn't become another 1.13 opinions thread.

Also, as I said earlier, authors of threads are able to edit poll results. Perhaps that could be removed? Unless everyone can see the poll edits a thread other makes, there's no way to tell for sure if a poll is honest or not.

posted a message on How do you not get bored of Minecraft after coming back?

Right now I'm kind of bored as I'm having trouble finding decent servers. But if you're tired of singleplayer, maybe try finding a simple, good server that you like- without bothersome things (for me it's crates, custom enchantments, etc... too much stuff -_-). If you like survival, servers with GriefPrevention ("landclaim") might be fun.

Also, maybe try starting projects or interesting activities on a world- things that are fun in of themselves. A while back and before the update to the end, it was prettymuch common sense among players that you would start projects or challenges for yourself.

posted a message on Server concept.

I like that sort of idea except for the drug part. I think having another way of escaping the prison besides repeatedly mining ores until you get to the last area is a good idea. Also, you might want to consider having limited items. Like it would be more rugged and realistic feeling if you had to dig with a wood/stone shovel or a "spoon" than if you can buy diamond armor fairly easily- though you don't have to do it at that extent.

Another note- if you have drugs that might affect what kind of players join your server.

posted a message on So what do you guys think about the new 1.14 textures?

I think the new textures look neat, but they seem like a different game's style. This on top of all the recent updates makes it seem more like they're changing the game than simply updating it- and for me (and maybe some others) it makes the latest update seem more strange and unfamiliar. How will this affect adventure maps, builds, animations, and YouTube videos before and after the update? Will classic music videos of the game like Revenge end up looking outdated or unusual? Or will some players like the textures, some players dislike, and then there's less of a standard for videos?

Plus now some of the merchandise people bought won't match up with the actual game.

posted a message on Advice wanted - wanting to start my own private server for a few friends, many questions.

I would only use ~1 GB for the server for 5 players. I have a 1GB public server that's been able to run fine even when 18 players were on.

Skyblock is different today than it used to be; originally it was just an empty void world with a small island and a chest. Today a lot of servers have it automated with commands, inventory GUIs, and economy systems (many "skyblock" servers today just focus on AFKing by spawners and automating systems to make even more money in the shop). The most common plugin for skyblock isn't updated for 1.13, but you could make your own skyblock by building a few islands.

In most cases, you don't need a separate server for different gamemodes- you just need separate worlds or areas, and then limit certain commands and permissions to those areas. Try looking into Multiverse-Core and Multiverse-Inventories.

posted a message on Does anyone know a good survival server? (or any hidden gems I should know about?)

Sounds like you're looking for mod-like features. I'd say there's unique semivanilla servers... but you might want to try looking for an Aether II server or a Slimefun server. Slimefun is like a mod, but is just a plugin that adds in more craftable items (they don't have new textures though).

Here's a few more mods you might like to find a server with:

    - Twilight Forest

    - Advent of Ascension/DivineRPG

    - Pixelmon

    - Flan's Modern Weapons/WWII

    - Balkon's Weapons

Also, be careful to get mods from their official threads or websites.

posted a message on Problems with these forums

I think there are two problems with these forums.

First, threads discussing updates are getting closed much too easily. This thread was someone's opinion and criticism about recent updates and changes to the game, but it got closed for being "too close" to "Is Minecraft Dying...?". They didn't mention the game dying or popularity declining anywhere, which is what that thread is declared as about. It seems any kind of criticism about how the game has changed recently is being lumped into the "Is Minecraft Dying...?" thread or the "1.13 Opinion Thread"; where they cannot be seen, and where their context becomes the game dying or specifically a problem with 1.13. This only stifles discussion and discourages- if not censors- the people who have a criticism on Minecraft's changes.

I get if the forum moderators are trying to prevent duplicate threads or a sea of criticism about changes filling up the Discussion section, but that's what the Recent Updates and Snapshots section is for; and only true duplicates should be closed, not threads that talk about something and make a comment about 1.13 on the side, or that discuss a single thing in an update.

Second, you're able to edit polls on your own thread. This makes little sense except if people picked two multiple choice answers that are not supposed to be picked together. People should not be able to alter polls to their favor to change what we think on the forums. I propose that we are not only able to see the now edited poll results, but also any votes that were removed.

Edit: I realized this might be the wrong place to post this, but I still think it pertains particularly to this forum section, since that is where the problems I am talking about mostly occur. You can move this to Forum Discussion & Info if need be.
