posted a message on I wish I would have talked to them...
I just came back from the pool, and some hot chicks my age were in the lazy river by me.

I accidently bumped into one, saying sorry, and I saw her friend mouth to her, "Talk to him!".

I was about to strike up conversation, but I got really nervous and never did.

I'm really pissed about this >_> ever happened to you?

Yeah, that was not really what I meant. I might have phrased that quite poorly.

What I really meant was that you can't learn programming by just reading about it, you really need to do practical stuff too.

And yes I do actually know what college courses use, but the ones i have done have not used text books.

Well yes, you use the book for reference. I already know majority of Java, I just need to learn more JFrame and graphics.

Ugh... So you are just saying he wings it? Completely wrong. You should practice programming, but you need a center of learning. People who just wing it like that generally have poor programming practice and hack their way through every problem. My programming skills have improved double fold from reading Head First Java. My practice and conventions I feel have nearly tripled in performance since reading Code Complete. Do you know what college courses use to teach programming? Text books. Please, if you could show me some great code by someone who never read a single book or resource, I would be greatly surprised.

Can you link me to any good java books? I've learned pretty much all the functions, I just need to get JFrame, graphics, and some more advanced functions down.

You learn programming by doing practical exercises, you can not learn programming by reading about it.

    This is wrong.

When your learning a coding language, do you prefer to learn out of a book or off of the internet?

Which way do you think is best?

Doesn't it seem like global warming really is happening?

I mean we have had huge droughts this summer, and we have had record breaking heat.

"It's just the earth going through its phases, everything will be fine."

Perhaps, but the earth isn't going to be destroyed by us, it will just throw us out so that it can recover. This could just be the earth throwing us out finally.

So, what are your predictions, do you think the end of the world is coming?

Studying java 7 hours straight isn't a great idea... The best way to learn would be to read one chapter (or whatever your book in segmented in), then once you have read it all, write a small program. Once you have a working program using what you just learned about, you'll never (ever) forget how that thing works. Example: learn about the do{}while(); syntax --> write a program using a lot of these combined. Example : multiple choice quizz that gives you a random question until you answered them all. ( you must have learned about randomizers though... )

If you're not wanting to play with java, your options are the following:
-Games of Thrones, Doctor Who, Breaking Bad, any TV show you might enjoy watching.
    -Build something epic in minecraft
-Try some f2p games such as LoL or Tribes Ascend
-LOTR marathon or such (will take you all night though).
-If still in school / high school / college / whatever, go and study whatever you understand the least. Grab all your files, read through them from the very beginning, and go search better explanations on youtube or so when you don't understand something. Example: "Oh I want to learn about mitosis, that seems so freaking exciting. Oh wait I can't understand a thing --> youtube. --> Oh I understand. Now, what about meiosis ?"
-9gag, 4chan, or such timewaster website
-Watch a whole playlist on youtube. Example: Zisteau's "Kaizo Caverns" LP is 5 hours long and really quite fun, will keep you entertained for the night.
-Eat, do stuff, go to bed by 10PM. You'll be happy tomorrow morning :)

I know all kinds of loops and such, mostly all functions of java. I just need to get JFrame and graphics down.

So? Go outside in the rain.

    I'd rather not.

Lot's of lightning, chance at hypothermia, nothing to really do when outside when it's pouring rain. I don't see any benefits there.

Just relax maybe? Play a game, watch tv, go outside?

I don't like to play a lot of games/watch TV. I usually only do productive things.

    Also it's pouring rain out.

Well my plans to go to a movie tonight with some friends was cancelled because most of them are busy.

I want to study some more java but I studied for 7 hours yesterday and I can barely think straight and I can't even remember most of what I learn.

I have no idea what to do now...any ideas?
