Basically its a little tricky. Assuming its your world that your friends will join to, you need to find out the external IP address of your PC (you can do this online with Find My Ip). You also need to forward a port on your router so that it provides a secure connection - again, you would have to find about this online, as it varies from router manufacturer to manufacturer (search for "Port Fowarding" on your router). When you have allocated a port, essentially you need to start your world, open to LAN, then inform your friend who will join by selecting Multiplayer and "Direct Connect" and typing in the IP number and the port number you allocated thus - ###.###.###.###:#### (the : seperates the IP number and the port number). Thats it in theory. My friend and I who tried this a long while ago had limited sucess ...
Another way is to try a 3rd party program called Hamachi that both you and your friends will need to install.
Just remember also that your friends can only play on your world when your PC is on, or vica-versa, depending on how you set it up
Please help me, I want to play with friends without having to pay for a realm.
