Well I got motivated to play single player by reading some survival journals and I also play multiplayer a lot sometimes mineplex and sometimes a survival server with some friends
Minecraft comes Alive mod is for 1.7.10... doesn't really do much in terms of survival, but if you find a village the squidwards will no longer be there. Instead are AI people, with which you can build a relationship with them, and eventually become the ruler.. Lots more to it so I'd suggest you check it out.

I play solo on Hardcore on a PC. Mainly I play in short little stretches throughout the day, as a sort of interim activity between different things. It distracts me so I forget about what I was doing before, so I can approach what I am about to do with a fresh mind. As such, it has become a sort of comfort food, something easy to do, but still engaging. Nothing like thinking you're home free and then falling 20 blocks into lava o start your day. I have several worlds at any time, at different stages depending on the type of play I want. Sometimes you want to work on that huge building project, other times you want to do some dangerous caving or running around in a Netherfort, other times you want to run through the initial startup sequence. For me that's usually
0. mark your spawn point with some kind of a column.
1. get wood. handles are made of wood. you can only get food with tools that have handles. if you don't get a tree (or mineshaft or village) before nightfall, get dirt. Dig in and make a little trap (stairs down 3 deep, bottom step only one high opening) so you can beat zombies to death with your fist and eat their rotting flesh. if it comes to that, only do it that once, and kill animals in the morning with your fists and eat them raw. don't do this unless you have gone a whole day and not found wood. Before you get wood those are your options: animals or zombies.
2. make tools. eventually you will find wood. make your basic set of tools. make a crafting table, then a wooden pick, then dig down and get cobblestone. you need about 20. make an axe, a stone pick, a stone sword, and a furnace.
3. get food. once you have wood you can get food. there are many ways, but at first just pile up the easiest food you can so you can focus on other things for a while.
4. get coal. if you've seen any in cavemouths, go back and get it. go in quick and get some so you can make torches. if not, make some with charcoal. you have wood now. then light the place up and get more coal and make a bunch of torches. Also cook your food.
5. get iron. you need about 30. run into caves placing torches facing back toward the exit. don't stop and mine, just light it all up. once you have passed a huge area, having spotted all the minerals you need, block it off so the dark areas are not sending mobs at you. now you can mine in peace. make armor, an iron sword and an iron pick.
6. dig deep. make a bunch of stone picks. stair down to the bedrock, then make a 2 high 1 wide passageway at t he level just above the highest bedrock, one long tunnel. put in torches wherever you dig stuff out. that way you are seeing the most block faces for the least digging. get some redstone, more iron, maybe diamonds.
7. go home. make a compass. go back to your spawn point. collect seeds and saplings along the way.
8. build a farmhouse. build a cobblestone building to hold your chests and fill it with chests with all your stuff organized. leave windows so you can see the time. build a farm. wherever you will be operating, that's where you farm. they don't grow when you aren't there, but if you are caving nearby you're good. if wood is scarce, also plant a bunch of trees.
9. build a netherportal. if there's a lava pond use that. if not, dig down and listen for one. Take your bucket. you don't need diamonds, just a bucket. dig a mold for each layer, put in lave, dump water on it, then bujild the mold for the next layer. also find some gravel and make a flint and steel. spark the portal.
10. get blazerods. you need 7. stand in the nether portal. if you come out in the open, build a little stone house around your portal to protect from ghast fire. next find a netherfort. mark your travel with stuff from the overworld pointing back to the way you came so yhou don't get lost as you explore. then find a netherfort. find the blaze spawner without getting kiled. netherforts are dangerous. not going into detail, but learn. if that doesn't keep you interested....get blaserods by setting up a barrier in front of the spawner, with a one block gap at the bottom where you can chop their legs. there are safer and more exciting ways to do this. cobblstone is your friend.
11. get eyes of ender. in a big emtpy open area in the overworld, make a blind. it's a tall pillar with a ladder you can slide down quick, through the roof of a 2 high little structure you can stand under. stay up at night. if you see endermen, look at them then slide down the ladder. they will come try to kill you but you are under a short cieling and can just chop their legs. design the blind so other mobs don't kill you at night.
12. find a stronghold. make your eyes of ender iwth the blazerods. this is where you cheat and go into appdata and find your world and make a backup copy. that way you can find the stronghold with just one eye. throw it and follow it until it go backwards. then, and only then, dig straight down. there's your stronghold down there somewhere. look around and memorize the terrain, then load your saved game. now just go from your spawn point house to your stronghold.
13. tool up. get a bunch of diamonds. get a bunch of experience. enchant diamond armor and, a bow, to the max, get a stack of arrows and some bucket s of water and a good supply of food. and go to the end.
14. kill the enderdragon. shoot the things on the towers with your enchanted bow. short onse from the ground, tall ones just column up the side. i use back and forth with two stacks. it's less efficient but actu ally faster. ignore the dragon unless you are just dodging to not get knocked into a fatal fall. work fast. descend towers using water, it's faster. now, find a big central plain, make a puddle of water, stand on a blocin the middle of it and keep your eye on the dragon. if you look at any endermen while standing in water, they won't stay mad long. shoot the dragon in the head every time it comes at you in range.
Now you can start a new world. Until then don't tell me how bored you are. And if you don't understand my instructions, use the Minecraft dot wiki
