Hi everyone-
So the title might be a bit confusing, so let me elaborate. My friend has had minecraft since alpha mode and has his server up since then. He's got some pretty awesome stuff in it. And I've only been playing since just after beta. Everytime there was an massive update, we (me) had to go exploring further into his world to find an area that hadn't been created yet. Needless to say, We've gone very far from the original spawn point.
My question is, based off of the information I found here "http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Stronghold", I'm confused as to where I would absolutely look for a stronghold now. It could be anywhere!! I'd hate to waste so many enderpearls to find them and spend days (real days, not ingame days) trying to find it.
Any advice would be great. My friend is a purist with his server, so any mods, or cheats will not work. It's a very very vanilla server.
Strongholds generate near the origin of the map (0, 0). If generated blocks around the origin in alpha I'm afraid you won't be able to find a stronghold. You could delete the blocks around the origin, but I imagine a lot of builds would be destroyed in the process.
I could be wrong though. Throw an ender eye, see what happens!
Awesome. I'll have to check it out tonight then. If I could convince him to delete blocks around the origin, but I highly doubt that would ever happen.
It's not really near 0,0. There are 3 strongholds on a map, and each are exact same distance around the center, and equa-distance apart. So it's like a triangle. There really is no other method of properly finding them other than using the eyes of ender. But other than that you could just go strip mining somewhere in hopes of finding it.

Any pre-stronghold update maps wont have them if you've ventured too far from the spawn area. I've tried on my Alpha 1.0.17 using a copy. It simply doesn't generate it. I do belive it was noted in the patch notes themselves that they wont generate if you've gone too far, which you probably have if its been there since Alpha
Update:
I've found one!!! What was amazing to me is that after going back to the original spawn point, there were areas that were really jacked up from new chunks spawning... but eventually as I got my Z cordinate closer to 640, I found everything to be semi normal and regular. I threw an ender pearl at that point and 60 blocks later, it's going underground.
I suppose he didn't actually explore everything as he had thought he had, and the map he generated had shown to me.
I know my friend is super super stoked about this.
Any recommendations for going into The End? Words of advice? I'll look it up of course and make sure I'm prepared, but if anyone has something they would like to add, I'd love to hear it.
have full diamond armor with maybe some enchants, a enchanted diamond sword, A bow with infinity and a diamond pickaxe, that's what I always get before I got, AND food btw!
