So I really want to make a way to sort mobs from my mob trap. And I was looking on youtube for some designs:
These designs use the concept that when aggro at a mob, creepers run at them in a straight line, skeletons and zombies have AI to take the quickest path to the mob, and zombies will turn on a villager the moment one is visible.
So using snow golems to "tag" every mob going through a canal, you can sort the tall mobs like in dom77's design. The creepers run forward into a pit, skeles run to the side pits trying to take the path to the snow golems, and zombies will turn around and immediately run towards the villager and forget about the snow golem.
However, this concept is broken in the 1.6 snapshots because zombies don't forget their grudge against the snow golems even when a villager is nearby. Thus you can sort creepers and skeletons but zombies will get mixed in with the skeletons (and for some reason sometimes they get mixed in with creepers even though their AI should follow skele AI).
My first reaction to this issue was to sort out the zombies before hand, but this isn't reliable at all as you'll have creepers and skeletons get pushed out of the canal with the zombies along with some zombies not being able to get out. When I try things using cats to scare creepers out of the canal, same issue.
I would like to hear some ideas as to how to fix this issue or any alternate sorting methods.

Etho has a reasonably efficient sorting mechanism; it attaches to his spawner tower. Zombies are filtered out with a villager, and Creepers are filtered out using Ocelots. Each one ends up in a different chute.
