I've made several fully-zoomed out maps in addition to a 4x4 square area, but I've apparently carelessly stuffed some of the ones I'm seeking into a chest somewhere. While looking for them, I found this one:
As I've explored a couple Woodland Mansions, I know that no matter how far one is away from the map's location, a dot will still indicate the player's relative position. As far as I know, my location should be indicated in the upper-right corner of the map.
I've restarted my Minecraft client and it's still without my location indicator.
Am I totally blind? Is this a foolish newbie question? What's going on here?
I'm sure the answer is plain and simple, but I'm at a loss.
Thanks!

Pretty sure if you make a map with no compass ( in PE not Java) it will have no player marker but if you make it with a compass it will. Also on a map wall only the map you are in will show the marker but you should see the dot on any map if you hold them. If you hold a cloned map of one you have in an item frame the player marker wont move - this is so you can set way points
Not sure if this helps

Explorer's maps -- the ones used to find woodland mansions -- always have a dot, as far as I know... but ordinary maps only have the dot if you are close enough to the area. They will show the dot along an edge or in a corner if you are off the map, but still close enough. The wiki claims the map marker will simply be smaller if you are more than 320 blocks per zoom level from the center of the map, but I have made many, many maps and gotten lost when I went too far away from the map area.

You could try going to X=0, Z=0 and see if you recognize anything.
If not try going in ever larger squares around there.
If you feel like cheating and built your home near where you spawned you could create a new world with the same seed (type /seed in chat) and write down where you spawn.
Or you could use a mapping program like admist to see which parts of the world you've explored, chances are you'll be able to recognize your base on the map.

Maybe a good idea to make a backup of your world before running around looking for home just in case you want to use a mapping program later.

Amidst DOES NOT map a world as changed by the player(s).
Amidst produces a complete map of a world as defined by its seed.
However, for worlds created with PCMC 1.12.2 and lower, Minutor 2.1.2 WILL give you a map of all of world chunks that have been created and saved to disk. That is the actual world as it exists including all structures made or changed by the player(s).
Minutor gives you a map that is a view from a given height (Y value) so you can completely view underground for ores, dungeons, mines, strongholds, etc.
Edit: Here are two screen captures of Minutor viewing a PCMC v1.12.2 world.
The first view is all the chunks that have been created as seen from y=255.
You can see two villages and their layout.
The second is a view of an area at the north east edge of the created chunks at Y=21 just south of the east village.
It show an abandoned mine and the bottom of an underground ravine that the mine intersects.
You can see ore deposits scattered all over the map.
