I wandered off to get coal, near my spawn point, and now I can't find the way back to my house. My house isn't set as my spawn point (I don't know how) and I've been wandering forever. My house was near a mountain, not too far from the snowy biome, but in a grassy field. Any tips on getting back?
I would suggest making a compass. You'd need iron ingots and redstone, which would take some mining time. After that, follow the compass back to your spawn and then go from there.

I always make graves for my dogs, but why should I have an even number of wolves?
Just to have a reason to savagely murder a dog.

You could try to render your world with Cartograph G. It will give you a birds eye view of the whole world, maybe you can recognize where you are and where your house is, and what direction to travel to get there.
The program is linked on these forums, it's a useful tool:
Hit F3 and you'll see your coordinates head back to
X: 0
Y: 0
Z: 0
For some reason this didn't bring me back exactly to my spawn point but it was only about a dozen blocks away.

Forgot you could do that. Saves some time searching for ore to make a compass.

Do this. I wandered off once and got lost and this definitely got me back home without just committing suicide.
Yeah this happened to me one time. I would build a compass. That's take a while, though. If you don't really have a lot of stuff you could always kill yourself.
This happened to me one time i eventually found my way back (thank goodness) and just set up one giant tower with a bunch of lanterns on the sides
in the dark you will easily find your way back!

This, except don't go to Y: 0, you'd be dead if it read that. (off the bottom of the map :ohmy.gif:)
This works for me :biggrin.gif:
