A remote desktop connection would use maybe a hundred or so MBs of data in a day. All it would be doing is refreshing what is on your screen. A hotspot would make your phone do all the work when it comes to using the internet.
Unless you have a large or unlimited data plan, I would not recommend using your phone's data for online gaming on your PC, as it will drain your data quite quickly and will cost your parents more money than what they are currently spending.
If you can somehow get a remote desktop connection from a PC to a remote laptop to play a game with anywhere close to playable levels of lag/delay, I commend you.
So which would be more data efficient?
Hosting a hotspot for my computer to connect to, so I can play online.
OR
Using a Remote Desktop through my 4G connection to play online.
Just curious.
I would say that Remote Desktop would be better. Your computer would eat through data if it was connected to your phone hotspot.

Would this be a major difference?
How much MB/hr do you think it'll consume while on Remote Desktop?

Well wouldn't you need a mobile connection/4G to connect to your computer from your other computer?
