I'm supposed to learn Linux management so I can run the server from the ubuntu terminal/console.
Unfortunately I haven't been given much to go with and im completely confused as to:
how do i connect minecraft to the console? (Keep in mind im not trying to set up a server im just trying to connect minecraft to the terminal im using)
Please let me know if im completely missing something out as im new to this

I am in a similar situation where I plan to add Minecraft to a Linux server in a few days while knowing almost nothing at this moment, and here is what I believe to be true:
1. The Linux console is only for sending commands to Linux for telling Linux what to do;
2. Multicraft is a Minecraft GUI (Graphic User Interface) with its own console in front of that and possibly capable of sending commands back to Linux as well as forward to Minecraft;
3. It sounds to me like you are being asked to take the place of Multicraft...and I can imagine that would/will be quite challenging.
Here is where I plan to begin and where you can find some initial Linux commands:
How so? The page says "Linux Screen allows you to: Use multiple shell windows from a single SSH session, Keep a shell active even through network disruptions, Disconnect and re-connect to a shell sessions from multiple locations, Run a long running process without maintaining an active shell session. If this sounds like stuff you can use..."
Which one or more of those kinds of things might actually be needed?
@Ninjabaconbear: If this is okay with you, I plan to post my discoveries and progress here as I go. Getting the kind of help and training we need is not going to be easy without taking college classes, but I do not give up and I am certain this can be done!

Screen is often used to run Minecraft in IE log in via SSH open a screen session start your server then you are able to disconnect without your server stopping is it can be very useful if learning to run Minecraft in a Linux environment
im not looking for anyting to actually start/create a server im just more looking for how to administrate a server if you catch my drift. I am in no way the owner of the server

Are you saying "run the Minecraft server from the Ubuntu console"? And if so, what do you mean by "run"? Even if you might never tell us here, you will need a job description of some sort even if that means nothing more than to learn some Ubuntu basics at a console where Minecraft happens to be installed.

By run i sort of mean like being able to locate bugs through console and restarting servers if they're laggy etc
