Hi, I'm trying to set up a server, and I recently got a new router. I have experience with port forwarding, but for some reason the port needed for minecraft (25565) won't open.... I port forwarded correctly and did so multiple times, but I haven't had any luck. Can someone please help me?
It's not the port forwarding I need help with, the port just won't open. And I'm not really sure if they will know how to do something like that or not....But I'll try.
what do you mean by wont open? ive had a slimier issues before
did you get a new router recently? that can be an issue, is skype running? that can also be an issue, did you put your port in your properties? that can also create an issue. these are all the issues i can think off the top of my head
I have gotten a new router recently and thats what created the problem.......since then I haven't gotten it to work.
Well, then it obviously is something with the router. Are you sure you port-forwarded correctly? Sounds like the first suggestion would be the most applicable:

If you have Administrator Privileges on your PC, you can try verifying if the ports are open on Windows PowerShell.
Enter the following without the Quotes
"Test-NetConnection <host> -port <port>"
So for example, if the host was located on the PC you are using, you could try the following:
"Test-NetConnection localhost -port 25565"
If the following up above comes back as TcpTestSucceded: False (Which means it's not reaching that port)
Then you can try going into your [Windows Firewall with Advanced Security] and trying the following
1. Hit the [Windows] Key, and type in "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security"
2. After the application opens, click on the Text on the left side named [Inbound Rules].
3. Click on the Text on the right side under the [Actions] which says [New Rule...]
4. Click the Circle to the left of where it says [Port], and hit the [Next >] Box at the bottom right..
5. Click the Circle to the Left of [TCP], specify the "Specific Local Ports:" as "25565", click [Next >]
6. Make sure [Allow the Connection] is slected, and then click [Next >].
7. Select which network applies, if unsure, select all. "Domain, Private, Public"
8. Name this rule something you'll Remember, "Minecraft Port 25565 TCP" should be fine.
9. Repeat steps 4-8, but instead Replace "TCP" with "UDP"
If that doesn't work, then I would recommend contacting your router support, or asking their forums for help with port forwarding.
Your router may have a setting which prevents port forwarding changes from being enabled unless if something is else selected.
Test-NetConnection will only tell him if the computer is listening on that port. It has nothing to do with the firewall or whether or not the port is open to the public.

Oh true, I'm tired lol, I think I made the assumption that maybe if it didn't work on client side, that it wouldn't work publicly. So figured tried starting locally.
When I tried to join the way my friends would join on my server I get this-
[10:10:19 INFO]: Omq_Taytay joined the game
[10:10:22 INFO]: Omq_Taytay has just earned the achievement [Taking Inventory]
[10:10:29 INFO]: Omq_Taytay lost connection: TextComponent{text='Disconnected', siblings=[], style=Style{hasParent=false, color=null, bold=null, italic=null, underlined=null, obfuscated=null, clickEvent=null, hoverEvent=null, insertion=null}}
[10:10:29 INFO]: Omq_Taytay left the game
I don't know if that means anything or not, but the port is closed and I have no idea why.
The firewall is disabled.
My port forwarding is correct.
And I can join through localhost.
But It still doesn't work....I'm really confused at this point. I recently got a new router, and I know that's what messed it up. But I don't know how to get the server back.
Hey, everyone! The problem was fixed! Thanks for all who tried to help, but there was a problem with my router! We got it replaced and it works fine now!

When you say it wont open, do you mean it say's it's open and not working, or the router config is returning an error?
If it's just not working, and you haven't tried this yet... Try disabling the host machines firewall.
Otherwise I would also recommend doing some more research, or contacting your manufacturer/ISP.

Have you tried opening it on a different port?
