When ever I try to make my minecraft server i do eveything right, but when i go to the Server.Properties and put my external IP, the exe would open for a second and then closes and nothing happens, but when i put my local IP it stays open and i can join my server, and i did everything and it keeps crashing so if you could help me.
leave it blank, run the server, you connect with your local ip or localhost, others connect with your external ip
Before[ok i did what you said (Finally a answer) but after I have the server up i can connect to localhost but when my friend tries to join "Failed to connect to server" i still don't know what to do.]
Edit I figured it out i just needed my firewall off and that go it to work

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER turn your firewall off as a "solution". Ever! Seriously. This is one of the worst things you could do.
The real solution is you need to port forward on your router, and maybe allow an exception in your windows firewall for java. But NEVER turn your firewall off unless for testing purposes.

Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
