It's my first time running a server (or doing anything with pc's really). I'm running a 1.17 Minecraft Java Edition server (without mods/pugins) on an Ubuntu 18.04 Server.
I would like to whitelist someone (which has worked before), but the command does not work anymore. I tried very other command (/stop, /save-all, /help...) and they all do nothing (there is no output or anything). Besides that the server works as it should. I tried to manually edit the whitelist file, but i guess for this to work, you'd have to restart the server. No one has ops on the server, so i can't whitelist someone in game (if that's even possible). I'm running the minecraft server in a screen session (I think). Can I end the session and just start a new one or would all the progress be lost? I would appreciate every attempt at a solution.

Do you start the server with a start script?
Make sure you are not using nogui
Commands work in the server gui - the black/blue cmd window currently does not recognize commands
The problem solved itself somehow. The server killed itself and i just restartet it.
But i am currently using nogui and I'll be sure to change that, so thank you for your answer anyway.
