Hey everyone, I am having an issue where one of my friends cannot join my Minecraft server. While another friend and I can join, my friend is getting an issue where it says "took too long to log in" I have no idea what to do; I am completely dumbfounded. I really need help. We tried having him redownload the mods/Minecraft/Forge/and resetting his laptop.
Everything was fine until yesterday when this issue randomly appeared.
That is a client side issue, not your server. I have a 64GB tank of a dedi, and once in a while a player will come across that issue.
Ask him what Mods he is running on his client. Have him remove them all and see if he is able to login. Then he can try adding back one Mod at a time if that is the issue. Or his pc/internet may just be a bit slow right now.
The read and login timeouts are hardcoded in vanilla Minecraft, and are often not long enough for slower computers. But there are faster mc clients like Lunar or Badlion, plus there is a mod that allows several connection timeouts to be configured. You can raise connection timeouts to 2400 ticks (120 seconds) from the vanilla value of 600 ticks.
There is a Fabric version too. https://github.com/TheRandomLabs/RandomPatches/tree/1.16-forge#randompatches-forge
