So i have a bit of a problem with my server.
It is completely vanilla, no mods used whatsoever. Using the official minecraft server method.
When a player joins the server:
When online mode is set to TRUE and watchdog is enabled the server will sometimes fail to encrypt users.
When this happens, the server will just hang (frozen) until watchdog confirms a crash.
When watchdog is disabled the server will hang but NOT crash. Instead, i must type any letter into the console to get it to *unfreeze*.
When online mode is set to FALSE and watchdog is disabled the server runs without fault. It no longer needs to encrypt users, as such no crashes occur.
This can happen with any random person, including me (the host).
Everyone is using legitimate clients. Nobody is trying to join with a hacked client.
If anyone has a fix this would be most appreciated. However, i can still run my server fine with online mode set to false. The only down side is everyone has the default skin. Other than that, everything is fine.

Hmm, my guess is that it tries to connect to Mojang's authentication service, and it could have gotten stuck on that. Is there a firewall on the server? Make sure you add a rule for Both Outbound and Inbound connections and both UDP and TCP.

Aye i've already allowed the server through my firewall. I need to, otherwise people wouldn't be able to connect at all.
The issue here is, people can connect, but sometimes (not all the time) fail encryption. When this happens it also crashes the server.
With encryption off, everything runs smooth.
I am thinking there's a bug in the latest server patch as i'm not the only one with this issue. I've seen threads similar to mine about failing encryption.

Well then I guess the only way is to just disable encryption then, as I don't see a big problem.
P.S.: This also happened to me a few days back. So yeah, it's kinda widespeard.

Ok so apparently even with encryption OFF the server still becomes unresponsive sometimes when a person joins.
It just sticks on "joining world" for a long time then disconnects the person.
The strangest thing is, i have to type something into the console to get it to become responsive again. Just any random letter.
Once i enter a random letter players can once again join the server.
I'm at a total loss. The server doesn't crash so i have no crash log to give. The server log just says:
[15:19:30] [Server thread/INFO]: Pikathunder7[/IP hidden] logged in with entity id 15863 at (-86.47635340606037, 50.0, -541.6999999880791)
[15:19:30] [Server thread/INFO]: Pikathunder7 joined the game
[15:19:44] [Server thread/INFO]: Pikathunder7 lost connection: Disconnected
[15:20:37] [Server thread/INFO]: Pikathunder7 left the game
[15:20:37] [Server thread/WARN]: Can't keep up! Is the server overloaded? Running 53159ms or 1063 ticks behind
[15:20:37] [Server thread/INFO]: Niekhass lost connection: Disconnected

[15:20:37] [Server thread/INFO]: Zane_QLD lost connection: Disconnected

[15:20:37] [Server thread/INFO]: com.mojang.authlib.GameProfile@ec00832[id=<null>,name=Niekhass,properties={},legacy=false] (/IP hidden) lost connection: Disconnected
As you can see, pikathunder joins the server then immediately gets disconnected. Then shortly after everyone else gets booted off the server.
I should remind you, at this point the server hasn't crashed. It's just "frozen".
Once i enter a random letter into the console everyone was able to connect again.

Are you on windows 10? Is your minecraft server console freezing? Try this fix! https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/server-support-and/3017626-a-solution-to-minecraft-server-console-freezing

Hmm, I see. Well, that's kind of weird to happen.
