I recently began running a server using AWS to host, and after doing some digging, I found that the way to keep a server up and running is to use the screen -S command when starting the server. However, this is where my problem starts. After running the script, I can only view the server console after hitting control + A and D to detach the screen. This lasts until I disconnect from the server with my SSH client. When I log out from the SSH client, the server stops, and if I log back in via the SSH, all that happens when I reattach the screen is that I am given a command prompt, and nothing relating to the server appears. Does anyone out there understand what is going on? All help is appreciated, I can't find anyone else who has had this problem.
Click enter when it says new screen and start your server in this screen.
After the server has stated up do the normal Cntl + A + D keybind to deattach and you should be able to log off from terminal. If you want to access it again, do
screen -list
and look for the deattached screen. After you have found it simply do
screen -R (nameofthescreen)
The name of the deattached screen should be something along the lines of something-.something.mc
