I'm hosting a Vanilla Minecraft server with 2 plugins (WorldEdit & CoreProtect). At most there are 4 people online at the same time. The moment 1 person join my server, my upload speed for my server jumps from 10kb/s to 350kb/s. I have a monthly data limit so using over 1GB/h is something I can't keep up with. What can I do?
I'd asume it would work like that, but 350kb/s is much higher than I anticipated since I didn't have this problem exaclty a year ago doing the exact same thing. Is it the current version that requires so much data transfer? Do other hosts have this kind of high data transfer as well?
That seams about right to me, internet demand will increase with the amount of players connected to the server. each client needs to receive data from the server, which means the data transfer will increase
I get that. I completely understand this concept. But how much is the normal data ratio per player? According to my statistics a small server with 10 people online should cost the host 6GB/h. This doesn't seem like a reasonable rate. Or is the calculation of data transfer different for a higher amount of players (like how the amount of decibels get calculated)?
It is hard to pin point the exact amount of data transfer per player, As there are so many variables, Such as how many chunks are loaded, players that are spread out will load more chunks than players that are all together in the same few chunks.
The amount of entities on the server. Redstone also plays a big role in this.
Pretty much you will need fast internet and its best if you have unlimited data on your internet.
You make sense. I suppose there are too many factors that can influence the data rate. I still find it weird that this wasn't a problem before for me. Thank you for your time to reply.

Nothing we can do I'm afraid. When players join they'll increase the upload speed. (afaik)

You'd have to speak to hosts about that, or find someone who knows more about servers than me Sorry!
