Hey I've been trying to host a server for my friend's for a while now and my friends simply cannot connect. I've made sure to port forward on my router and I've also tried making sure my firewalls (java SE binary) is allowed on public and private. I've tinkered with countless settings to try and get it to work and it still won't run. the reason my version is off is because I'm trying to get the server to run with the mod pack RLcraft and I know it's stable. The server connects fine with the experience when I'm at home but I can't get it to connect when I'm on my laptop away from the house.
A few question I can't seem to find answers for:
1. Should I be using an ethernet cable? I don't think I need it but maybe that's why the connection isn't there???
2. should I allocate more ram to the server. I have 8 gigs at the moment but do I need more?
3. I'm sure my port forward worked, I enabled it fist on both, then with UDP and TCP or whatever they're called hut nothing's working and I'm pretty stumped.
4. the error message I get is just server timed out could not reach server. (aHHHhhh)
If someone could help or at least have suggestions as to what I did or am doing wrong I would be overjoyed. Thanks again

Completely disable your firewall and try again.
