So i recently started up a server, but within five minutes of me running the batch file it says: "[Server thread/WARN]: Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running (number) ms behind, skipping (number) tick(s)." I have set the maximum tick value to -1 (in server properties) but it doesn't help.
Sorry if I'm being a noob because multiplayer and servers are a strange world to me. (Btw if you close the batch file does that shutdown the server? Again, sorry for being a noob.)
Unless you know you need more because you have a very large number of concurrent players, allocating more heap memory than needed may require more cpu power for the parallel garbage collection, so I recommend using the minimum -Xmx2G sizing unless proven otherwise.

Post the entire server log using paste.ubuntu.com and the contents of your startup script.
but what is the startup script? (sorry again)
The batch file...

Post results after executing the following command in a command prompt: java -version

Install 64-bit Java.
It displays the same message, unfortunately

Is that on a newly created world?
Yes, I recently created this server
What's the servers render distance? Allocate more RAM.
I always put it on 10. How would I allocate more RAM?
Modify the batch command.
Yours is:
This means you're allocating 1GB, to allocate 2GB (which is the minimum from 1.13 onwards) put this:
If you wish you can modify also the -Xms (starting heap size) but it's not compulsory.
I have 8GB RAM - should I allocate more?
Unless you know you need more because you have a very large number of concurrent players, allocating more heap memory than needed may require more cpu power for the parallel garbage collection, so I recommend using the minimum -Xmx2G sizing unless proven otherwise.
Ok I get it - thanks.
It still displays the message and I keep timing out of the server
